Chapter 50: CH 050: Intermediate beast (MR 4)

In the small, sterile room where Dave and the others were locked, a sharp, red beeping sound suddenly pierced the silence. The alarm echoed through the cold, concrete walls, its shrill tone signaling imminent danger.

Moments later, a robotic voice crackled through the intercom, filling the room with an official, calm but urgent announcement. "Attention all personnel. We are being attacked by beasts. All hybrids, report to the front exit immediately. Defend the building."

The beeping continued, and the man stationed outside the room, one of the guards turned on his heel and rushed off, clearly following the order to assist in the defense.

Meanwhile inside the room, Eric and Ella had exchanged confused glances, their brows furrowed with concern. "What’s going on?" Ella asked quietly, her voice tinged with unease.

Eric looked just as perplexed, trying to make sense of the sudden chaos. But Dave, ever composed, didn’t seem at all surprised. He had already guessed what was happening.

The lab was under attack. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

The second wave of beasts, the ones meant specifically for him, had arrived. The hybrids had been dispatched, and their job was to protect the lab from the overwhelming force of the beasts. But Dave couldn’t help but wonder how he would have faired if he was to face the onslought of the beasts.

He considered the possibility that he might be facing not just a handful of the creatures, but all of them. His mind flashed back to the first attack, the overwhelming number of beasts, too many for him to handle on his own.

He had barely made it through, and if the lab couldn’t hold its ground against this wave, he feared the consequences would be worse. But he wasn’t bothered by it, as long as they were able to escape from the lab, it doesn’t matter what happens.

He knew what the system was up to, throwing wave after wave of beasts at him, each more challenging than the last. The system likely believed he was strong enough to handle it, pushing him to his limits, even if that meant putting him in danger. It was testing him. But how far would it go?

His thoughts drifted to the first encounter. If he hadn’t been so lucky, the system would have likely ended the punishment right then. Maybe the system thought that his survival meant he was more capable than it had originally estimated. That was the only explanation he could come up with for why the attacks seemed to be escalating.

"I wonder..." Dave muttered under his breath. "How long will this go on?"

Eric and Ella didn’t hear him, still trying to make sense of the situation. But Dave’s expression hardened, determination settling in his chest.

For now, he had to wait. But it wouldn’t be for long. Thankfully, the system had given him a way to stop the punishment he was facing. Once he was able to complete the quest, he would not just be able to obtain a new ability but also get to end the system’s punishment.

Surprisingly, the beasts in this second wave were much stronger than the ones he had faced before. Dave couldn’t see them with his own eyes, but the system’s prompt provided all the information he needed to understand the danger.

[The second wave of your punishment has begun]

[An intermediate-tier Dinoclaw beast identified]

[An intermediate tier is stronger than a basic tier. You’re facing a more powerful beast than the boulderback beast. Good luck!]

The message from the system hit Dave like a punch to the gut. The intermediate-tier beasts were no joke. He already knew the strength of the boulderback beast, and to hear that these new opponents were stronger only heightened his concern. Even without seeing the beasts in action, the system’s detailed description made it clear that they were not joke at all.

And this was why the hybrids had also failed at that time. The intermediate beasts were simply too powerful. Their mere roar was enough to instill fear in the basic-tier beasts, sending them cowering away, trembling in terror.

This psychological advantage rendered the hybrids completely useless. The beasts’ overwhelming presence and ferocity, combined with their intimidation tactics, made it impossible for the hybrids to mount any sort of effective defense. They were slaughtered on the spot.

The hybrids weren’t just weaker; they had been overpowered, not by physical strength alone, but by the beasts’ sheer will and intimidation. The fact that these creatures had the power to crush their foes with nothing more than a roar was proof of their superiority.

Although White was undeniably a clever man, there were still critical things he had yet to understand. And among them was the fact that the beasts he had been studying and utilizing were not all the same. They were divided into different tiers, with each level far surpassing the last in strength and danger.

The basic tier was the lowest level, with stronger tiers such as the intermediate and advanced tiers following. Beyond that, there were even more formidable categories: the king tier, emperor tier, the terrifying demigod and finally the demon tier, each more powerful and dangerous than anything White had encountered.

White, however, was unaware of this complex hierarchy. He had assumed all beasts were equal in strength, believing them to be a monolithic threat. Little did he know that there were far stronger, more deadly creatures lurking in the world, waiting to be discovered.

As of now, humanity had only faced the king-tier beasts, and they had proven to be a nightmare. But as humanity evolved and developed stronger abilities, the beasts’ power would also grow in tandem.

In this moment of realization, the door to the room where Dave and the others were locked in suddenly flung open, causing the trio to freeze. They hadn’t expected anyone to come for them, especially not now.

When they saw who had entered, their surprise was evident.

"Chris?" they all exclaimed in unison, their voices filled with disbelief and confusion.
