The Billionaire's Rental Wife Is A Hot Shot-Chapter 103: He Was Gone
Chapter 103: He Was Gone
The doctor that had followed Evelyn couldn’t help but smile looking at the scene in front of him. Zevian had already woken up before Evelyn earlier this morning but they still kept him in the ICU, as he had fallen asleep right after due to the extreme exhaustion his body had to go through during that accident. And his wife’s cries might have disturbed his rest, but he knew Zevian would be more than glad to see her too.
Avery who was outside, waiting by the door teared up looking at the couple. Damien who had accompanied her for the last two days, closely watching over Zevian rushed toward the room, followed by his assistant and brother-in-law Lucius.
"Is he awake?" Damien asked, trying to peek through the small glass screen of the door.
Avery turned around and nodded, her tears flowing out freely. "They both woke up!" She replied, before hugging him tightly.
Damien stumbled behind at her unexpected action, side-glancing at the other two men who were equally stunned like him. Heaving a small sigh, he wrapped his arms around her, gently patting the crazy cat’s head. The last few days had been quite stressful for her, managing both families, looking after her friend, and worried sick about her cousin. It was natural to react this way and he knew she would have hugged someone else too if they were in his place.
"Stop crying. Someone will think they are dead with the way you are overacting," Damien grumbled after quite a few seconds, his words making Lucius shake his head in annoyance. His low EQ was the reason no women were ready to date him, and he was sure this mob would die single.
Avery scowled at his words and sniffled against his chest. It took a second for her to realize that she was hugging him and she instantly moved back, turning away in embarrassment. Wiping her tears, she quickly took out her phone and murmured, "I-I will inform Aunt Rose," before running away.
Damien frowned, his eyes fixed on her back. He shook away and moved closer to the door to confirm they were awake. Lucius and Ben also didn’t think much about it and patiently waited for their turn to see Zevian.
Once she was out of their sight, Avery leaned over the railing of the steps and recalled how she had literally pounced on him. She shook her head, trying to erase the memory from her mind. It was because she was emotional! She reminded herself and sighed softly. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Unlocking her phone, she quickly informed both the families that were worried sick of the couple. Even William had stubbornly waited here for an entire day that she forced everyone to go back home, assuring to inform if either one of them woke up.
While inside Zevian’s room, the doctor noticed how Evelyn was leaning too much on her husband. Though he hated to break their little respite, Zevian was still unwell and they needed to be careful around him. Stepping forward, he softly said, "Please be careful, Mrs. Reign. You might open up his wounds."
Evelyn slowly broke the hug and nodded, sobbing gently as she stood beside him. Zevian didn’t want to let go of her so he held her hand, his action making the doctor and the other staff who had just entered smile.
"Sit down," Zevian suggested to Evelyn, eyeing at the chair beside his bed. Evelyn nodded and sat beside him, their hands holding onto each other.
The senior doctor, Morrow stepped forward and did a check-up on Zevian. With the assisting doctor’s help, Zevian leaned toward Evelyn’s side so they could look at the gunshot wound. After doing a thorough check-up, Morrow nodded and informed them, "Both of you have been through quite a lot, so it will take time for your body to heal completely."
Once detailing their respective injuries and how they needed to be careful about them, Morrow looked at his junior and ordered, "Take Mrs. Reign back to her room and do the follow-up tests."
A pout formed on Evelyn’s face at his words. Her eyes locked with Zevian who also had no intentions of letting her go. Looking at the doctor, she grumbled, "Can’t I just stay here? Get me a bed beside him."
The staff chuckled at her words and Morrow smiled softly. With an apologetic look, he replied, "I am sorry, Mrs. Reign. We need to keep him in a sterile condition, do a couple of more tests, and observe him since the gunshot wound is deep." When Evelyn’s expression fell further, he tried to cheer her up, "But don’t worry, we will move him to your ward as soon as possible."
Evelyn softly sighed and nodded, understanding the doctor’s concern. She looked at Zevian, his grip tightening on her hand. Couldn’t they let them stay together for a few more minutes? An hour or more would have been better!
"Rest well," Zevian murmured slowly to her, a small smile tugging at his lips. He also had the same thoughts of her but they had to stick to the protocols, at least until he was fine and able to walk.
"You too," Evelyn replied and slowly, reluctantly let go of his hand. A nurse stepped forward to help her out of the room. Taking a final glance at him, she slowly walked out of the ICU, with her attending doctor following behind.
Outside, Damien rushed forward as Evelyn came out. She looked terribly pale and fragile in that hospital gown. His eyes moved to the cast on her right hand and regret filled them for not being cautious, for not sending his team behind them just in case that day.
"How are you?" He asked in a gentle tone, taking the nurse’s position to walk her back to the ward.
"He looks worse," Evelyn replied, her voice full of worry. Damien realized she was talking about Zevian and sighed, before helping her into the lift.
Avery who noticed them, quickly ended her call with Elias and rushed toward them. "How is he?" She asked, entering the lift with the staff while Damien and the other two men decided to use the adjacent lift.
"He will get better soon, don’t worry, Mrs. Reign." The doctor replied instead, and Evelyn sighed, leaning on Avery who wrapped her hand around her shoulder.

Evelyn rested back on the hospital bed, fatigued both physically and emotionally. But she broke into a small smile to see Elias, Rosalind, and Jonathan rushing inside to see her. However, her eyes widened in surprise when she saw William walking in alongside Elias.
"You should be resting," Evelyn whispered, her gaze fixed on the cane in his hand. "You haven’t fully recovered yet."
William ignored her words, his expression stern but his eyes softened, a tinge of worry at the edges. "Take care of yourself," he said, his voice low but firm. "Don’t worry about me."
Just then, a soft cry interrupted them. A small figure rushed into the room, her eyes wide and tear-filled. Kiana ran toward Evelyn, her little hands reaching out as she sobbed uncontrollably. "Mommy..." she murmured through her tears, standing nervously at the edge of the bed.
"My baby," Evelyn’s heart melted instantly, her worries vanishing at her darling daughter’s arrival. She smiled, her arms reaching out to bring Kiana close, even with the cast on her arm. "Come here, sweetheart."
Elias lifted Kiana and helped her sit on the edge of the bed so Evelyn could embrace her. Agatha who had a panic attack when Kiana ran out of the lift as soon as it opened sighed seeing her in the right ward. Tears filled her eyes to see Evelyn fine and hoped for Zevian to be safe too.
Kiana sniffled, wiping her nose with her sleeve as she whimpered in her mother’s arms, "You were hurt... so bad. And were asleep for so long... I thought..." Her voice cracked, the fear of losing her parents overwhelming her little heart.
Evelyn leaned down, kissing the top of Kiana’s head. "Shh, baby, it’s okay. We’re both going to heal, and everything will be just fine." She pulled back and gently wiped Kiana’s tears with her thumb. "And we’ll be together, just like always."
Kiana’s cries subsided a little, but she slowly held out her pinky finger. "Promise?" she whispered, her big, round eyes fixing on Evelyn.
"Promise," Evelyn locked her left pinky finger with a tender smile, before hugging Kiana tightly with one arm again.
The moment was interrupted by a nurse, who entered with a concerned look on her face. "I’m sorry, but we can’t have too many people crowding around Mrs. Reign right now. She needs rest, and the doctor will be by shortly for more tests."
Everyone agreed as the room was completely packed. Avery standing beside Damien stepped forward and declared, "I’ll stay behind with her. You all should go home and come again once Zevian is shifted to the normal ward."
With that, the family slowly began to trickle out. Kiana reluctantly released Evelyn’s hand but left with the promise that she would see her again soon. After they were all gone, Avery helped Evelyn with the remaining tests.
The night quickly wore on and Avery drifted off to sleep on the extra bed, finally relaxing after two long restless nights. But Evelyn couldn’t even sleep a wink. She tossed and turned, her mind troubled by an uneasy feeling she couldn’t shake off.
Sitting up quietly, she glanced over at Avery, who was fast asleep, breathing softly. Careful not to wake her, Evelyn slowly removed the IV attached to her hand. Her heart raced with every movement, but the need to see Zevian overwhelmed her caution.
Slowly, she slipped out of the bed, and wearing the slippers, she walked out of the room. Luckily the corridor was empty, ensuring that no one saw her as she made her way to the lift. Her hands trembled as she pressed the button for the upper floor.
The lift doors slid open with a quiet chime, and Evelyn stepped out into the sterile hallway. The dimmed lights cast long shadows, and the distant hum of hospital machines filled the air. She reached Zevian’s room and peered through the small glass window on the door. But her heart dropped when she saw the bed was empty.
Panic surged through her body, her heart beating loudly. Where would he go? Her eyes widened in horror. Was he kidnapped or worse someone tried to kill him again?
