Chapter 44: CONFUSED MAID

"Come on, Ava, let’s go." Harlow smiled softly at the woman and she stepped out of the car with Harlow and the rest. Her steps were slow as she followed them, looking at everything around them. The only thing Ava could think about was where they were.

The butler immediately bowed at the sight of Harlow, "Welcome back Miss H." He said.

Miss H? Ava thought to herself.

Even if the mansion wasn’t as big as the Blackwood’s, it was nothing that she or Harlow could afford at the moment. She was so grateful to their three life saviors.

"Thank you, Paul. How have things here been?" Harlow asked as she stepped in, handing her coat to the butler and so did the rest. When they stepped in, Ava almost shrank at the inside of the villa. It was more than beautiful, screaming elegance at all ramifications.

This is one of the many mansions Harlow had acquired over the years. Making and selling Jewels worth millions every day was worth it. One of her skills had helped her acquire this property. The remaining skill had helped her achieve other things she had yet to mention.

But Harlow had decided to give them all up for Alanis. In her past life, she had sold this mansion and everything else she had. She fired all of her workers and even destroyed her identity just to please Garth and her daughter’s demands but they still killed her.

Somehow, Claudia made every effort and every sacrifice in vain. She did more than Harlow had ever done by collecting funds from the company in Harlow’s name.

She was smart, but at the same time foolish in her past life. But not anymore. She will never let herself go anymore.

Once everyone was settled in their bedrooms, at night, Ava searched for Harlow’s room amongst the guest rooms but she couldn’t find it. She saw the other people sleeping in the guest room, but for some reason, Harlow was not found in any.

Ava hesitantly opened the master bedroom only to see Harlow sleeping in there. "What does she think she’s doing here?" Ava wondered.

"What if the master of this house finds her?" At her thought, she started walking towards Harlow.

"Miss Harlow," Ava called in a hushed tone, but Harlow only turned to the left side of the bed, making muffled sounds.

"Miss Harlow what are you doing here, the master of the house might be home anytime and you’re in his bedroom," Ava said and Harlow finally sat up. She stared at the woman next to her and smiled. Ava’s face was filled with dread, it was enough those people decided to help them and give them a place to sleep. But that doesn’t mean Harlow should disrespect them that way, even if they’re her friends.

"Come, Miss Harlow, show me to the master of the house, let us go and thank him for allowing us to stay the night here, and also apologize for your behavior." Harlow smiled.

"Oh Miss Harlow, I’ve decided that I would be a servant for our time being. That means I would have to work for us to keep staying here." Ava continued. "Do you think the master will be pleased?" Harlow nodded.

"Of course, the master will be pleased. You’ll handle the kitchen section, you’ll be the head maid after the butler, and my personal maid. Is that okay?" Harlow asked and she nodded, but then she thought. Harlow doesn’t have a right to appoint any position to anyone since this isn’t her house, only the master has the right to do it.

"But miss Harlow, you know only the master has the right to do that right?" Harlow nodded. "That means your appointment is invalid until the master agrees. I’ll just wait till the master wakes up." Harlow nodded already exhausted from her talks. Ava’s confusion was frustrating.

When morning arrived, everyone gathered in the dining room for breakfast. Harlow was the last to step out in just a shot and a shirt. She was free from the customs of her family. During breakfast, everyone has to look their best, you wear heavy makeup, find the nicest dress to wear. Dress your hair and make sure you smell nice, but not heavily nice.

Her father had said these stupid laws had been placed before he was born and there’s nothing he can do about it. Harlow already knew she wouldn’t be following those customs, she had her way of life, and in that she trusted.

"I’ll be going shopping with Layla today, I have a few things for the house I need to purchase," Harlow said. Richie who stared around the villa, wondered what his boss wanted to change in there.

Everything seems perfect unless she’s looking for the perfect excuse to leave the mansion. Richie, Elena, and Edward start working, I’ll be with you guys shortly." Harlow said.

"I need to visit the company to get a few materials I’ll be needing," Harlow explained and stepped out of the dining room.

Ava watched her niece leave, she had no right to be seated on the table with people as rich as this with a heart of gold. They had accommodated them and still allowed Harlow might have been rude to them just now, but she’s here to correct it.

Ava had all of the signs, but she didn’t just want to believe Harlow had something like this. Everyone called both her and her sister useless, they even advised their parents to adopt a male child who would inherit his properties and everything he owns, but Frank refused.

He was contented with the two daughters he had. At least he knows his Harlow was smart and good at handling his business, while Claudia...

He’ll place her on the safe side. He’ll make sure she has more than enough that she’ll never lack anything in life.

"Thank you for accommodating me and Miss Harlow, please boss, forgive her rudeness earlier, Harlow is not always like that." The three people on the table stared at Ava in confusion.
