The Crown's Seduction-Chapter 408: Never Gets Drunk
Chapter 408: Never Gets Drunk
The next day, Dani went on with her usual work routine, assisting the Queen.
"So at what time are you planning to meet Laura? Can I go instead?" Krisha tried to coax Dani as they organized some of the paperwork inside Mineah’s office.
Dani rolled her eyes. She could only thank her lucky stars that Zalla was not there with them and she had to only deal with Krisha.
"Later... And no, you can’t. I have my reasons for meeting Laura, Krisha, so please stop asking me about it. Kindly finish this work and see if there’s anything else you can help with. I will leave now," she said before leaving Krisha alone. She was sure that by now Abel would be on his way back to his residence so she walked there.
Surprisingly, Abel’s servant easily let her inside the residence. They were not quite strict with the rules so Dani had the opportunity to roam around inside his house. No one even dared approach and ask her to stay in a particular area. They simply smiled and greeted her.
"Hmm, the servant said that I should turn left," Dani murmured as she made her way to Abel’s study chamber where she decided to wait for him. The servant offered to guide her but she refused.
"He has such a huge residence," Dani murmured. She liked that Abel’s residence felt like she was walking inside a maze. She also loved the ambiance, the house was surrounded by lots of flowers and greenery, as though it was a woman’s residence and not a man’s.
She walked straight to his office but Dani didn’t enter the room. She simply waited outside. She didn’t have to wait for long as he soon showed up in front of her.
"It must be really nice to be a Curb that also harbors the ability to shift into mist form," Dani casually stated. "I heard not all Curbs can do that."
He turned around and frowned. "What are you doing here?" he questioned. "Surely you’re not here just to mock me, right?"
Dani leaned against the nearest wall, her arms crossed as she looked at him from head to toe. She must say he did look sad and devastated.
’That woman did not deserve his feelings,’ she thought with a sour expression.
"Hmm... I feel kind of bad since I manipulated you against your own will and stopped you from helping Rosela out. Then again, I have no regrets about doing that, to be honest," Dani casually shrugged as she walked around him. She was genuinely worried about him and truly felt guilty. It was not like her to do something like that but with Abel, she couldn’t help but do things out of character.
"So to make it up to you... I was thinking of being your drinking partner for tonight so you can have someone with whom you can share your misery and loss about losing your secret love. I already asked permission from Her Majesty to go out tonight, so I’m available to accompany you, Chancellor. Come now. Let’s go."
For a while, Abel stood unmoving, so Dani turned around and looked at him with a raised brow. "Come on. Stop standing around and take me to the most expensive and extravagant tavern that you know," she commanded using the same old spell she had cast over him. "If I recall, that’s the Titan tavern somewhere in the city."
Dani suppressed her chuckles as he began walking beside her. She didn’t know why, but commanding the Chancellor like this was fun, especially whenever he would have an annoyed expression despite him doing what she wanted.
’I think I’m going crazy!’ she mused.
Against his will, Abel guided her out of the palace. Once they were outside, the two of them then used a carriage to travel to the tavern which Dani knew was not that far away from the palace. It was also where she was meeting Laura. Of course, there was still some travel time so she used that opportunity to ask some questions.
"Are you good at drinking?" she curiously asked Abel who was currently sitting next to her. "A high tolerance for alcohol perhaps?"
Predictably, he ignored her and simply stared out of the carriage’s open window with a frown.
Seeing his reaction, Dani shrugged as she confidently hummed, "I know you’re mad at me right now. And I understand why, but I’m sure you’ll thank me once you meet another person that’s much better for you than Rosela. And I’m not even talking about appearances here..."
Abel narrowed his eyes as he turned to look at her. In response, Dani simply gave him an honest smile as she continued, "What I mean is someone that has a good heart and genuine feelings for you. No one should settle for anything less, Chancellor. Know your worth..." fгeewebnovёl.com
He remained silent, only letting out a deep sigh before promptly ignoring her. Again, Dani simply shrugged as she chose to stay quiet throughout their journey as well.
Soon, they arrived at the tavern. Dani could almost hear how loud the customers were inside the closer they approached. She followed Abel as he led her to what she supposed was his private spot. Almost immediately, she spotted Laura sitting alone near a table not far from where they were standing. The woman who obviously saw Dani was currently disguised as a man, but neither of them bothered to give each other a signal.
"Chancellor! It’s been a while since your last visit," the head of the tavern greeted him with a sly smile. "Are you going to use your private room? We’ve kept it neat and tidy with the same arrangements you’ve always wanted..." He then stared at Dani from head to toe, watching her as though he was assessing her worth.
"This is the first time you have brought a woman here, Chancellor. And a human on top of that."
Dani was about to retort when she was caught off-guard by Abel who suddenly grabbed her wrist and pulled her close to him. Her eyes widened when Abel pulled her close to him and casually put his arm around her shoulders.
"Yes, we’ll use my usual private room," Abel remarked with a curt bow. "Get us the best drinks you have. We’re planning to drink for the whole night, so make sure there are no disturbances." He then gave her a mocking smile as he guided her to their supposed room. "Come on. You started this, my drinking partner."
As soon as they were in a private room, Dani immediately yanked Abel’s arm off her shoulders.
"How dare you touch me!" she exclaimed with a dark glare on her face before sitting on the nearest chair. She was very embarrassed so she got mad at him like that was her only way to hide the weird feeling she was having with that simple touch.
Servants quickly served them the drinks and some snacks inside their private room. But Dani was rather feeling conscious under Abel’s intense gaze.
"A while ago, you looked sincere when saying that you’ll accompany me for a drink so that I’ll have someone who knows my secret with Rosela," he grunted as he started pouring the drink into their glasses. "That you’ll be my drinking partner to help ease my misery... So here. Drink with me!"
Dani shrugged and started drinking with him quietly. She had planned to wait a bit before leaving him alone for a while to talk to Laura, but she could probably do so while having a few drinks of her own.
"Since when did your secret relationship with Rosela start anyway?" Dani asked after a few moments of silence. "Who approached who first?"
She watched Abel drink at her question, emptying and promptly pouring refilling his cup many times as if to ignore her.
’Is he really planning to ignore me?’ she wondered with lifted brows. Seeing his lack of reaction, she stood up and said, "Wait here, I’ll be right back."
Without waiting for his reply, Dani walked out of the room to meet with Laura outside.
Meanwhile, Abel simply watched in silence as Dani left him alone. "That woman. I wonder what she is planning by trying to get close to me?" he muttered with a frown before he poured himself more drinks. He released a deep sigh. He felt bad that he was unable to do something for Rosela until her last moment. He felt that it was his fault that everything turned out tragically for her. He was unable to protect her properly.
He had become strong and quite powerful now but it turned out that he was still lacking. Love... it was not love that he felt for Rosela but a deep sense of responsibility to take care of her. He was sad and devastated but not hurt in a way where he lost his wife, unborn child, and father. Maybe it was because there was love lacking in it...
"I guess it’s for the best that I didn’t surrender my heart. At least it saved me from feeling the same pain that I felt before," Abel muttered as he drank directly from the bottle. He then chuckled as his gaze turned to the closed door.
"That woman, she’s not aware that I’m someone who never gets drunk but it will be fun to act drunk. I wonder how she’ll handle me afterward..."
