Chapter 418: My Mist Form

Abel looked straight out of the balcony of his cabin. After Dani commanded him to leave, he went straight to his room to give her some space for the night. He didn’t want to tease and disturb her more after the incident with Taro. In addition, for some reason, he felt a bit nervous about meeting Dani’s family. As such, he rested well for the night, making sure that he would be more relaxed for their arrival at Ebodia.

Come morning, he simply watched as their fleet slowly neared the port of Ebodia. "It’s not like I’ve never been a human before, so what is this feeling?" he chuckled to himself. "I shouldn’t be worried about meeting humans." He then mumbled to himself before shifting into his mist form, "I should check on her now..."

While there was a chance that she was still angry at him, he was pretty sure that Dani had cooled down already. A night had already passed, so surely that was the case...

He found Dani alone at a particular meeting cabin in the fleet, sitting on a chair while staring out the window. She seemed to be in deep thought as she sighed several times and then breathed out, "I’m in big trouble."

"And why is that?"

He announced his arrival by asking her after shifting back into his human form behind her. He smiled roguishly when she almost jumped off her seat upon hearing him.

"You! Why do you always show up unannounced?" she scolded, her face contorted in frustration. "It’s an invasion of privacy. Can’t you at least use the door?" frёewebnoѵēl.com

Abel ignored her scolding and calmly took the seat in front of her.

"I brought some things for your family. I wasn’t sure what they would like, so I just bought a few random items," Abel casually informed her.

"Wait... My family? Are you saying you’ll be meeting my parents too?" Dani exclaimed.

"Yes. Isn’t it proper for us to meet each other’s families, especially when we’re about to get married?" Abel continued with a serious tone. "I believe having the wedding at your home in Ebodia is the best way to do it."

Dani rapidly blinked in front of him. Her lips parted before pursing up adorably as if she wanted to say something.

’What’s with that bewildered expression?’ he thought to himself. He was sure he made himself clear, so why did she always look baffled by his every action?

"Why are you doing all this?" Dani questioned. "Aren’t we just in an arranged marriage, bound to separate soon anyway?"

He mentally said yes to her question. She had a point, but even though it was just an agreement, it wasn’t like Abel didn’t want this relationship to work between them. He was sure that the feeling between him and Dani was mutual. That there was this intense attraction between them...

His mind made up, Abel stood up and leaned closer to her, his face just inches away from hers and stirring a familiar sensation of déjà vu.

His intense gaze locked with hers as he replied, "Who knows? That "soon" might not come soon enough..."

He badly wanted to kiss her right then and there, but Abel wasn’t that reckless. He didn’t want to push Dani’s limits, and it wasn’t bad to give her some time and some space. He also wasn’t in a rush, but that also meant that he might lose control of himself soon.

With those in mind, Abel simply sat back on his chair. "I am the Chancellor of Valcrez, and like the Queen Mother said, every action I take reflects the kingdom’s reputation," he stated. "You, Lady Dani, are the daughter of Ebodia’s Duke and the sister of Ebodia’s Great Constable. You should be expecting more from your future husband... and not settle for anything less."

That was the best reason he could think of to give her without being too committed to his words. He wasn’t sure what he was feeling, so it would be best to at least be practical about things.

In front of him, Dani’s jaw dropped as she stared at him. In response, he smirked and remarked, "So I have decided that I will give you nothing less, Lady Dani."

She just stared at him with a frown, and Abel gave her a roguish smile which made her cheeks blush yet again. Truly, he had never found a woman as adorable as her before, her expressions so vivid and clear that he just couldn’t help but want more.

Silence reigned for a moment as Dani let his last remarks linger. Abel sighed, deciding to break the deafening silence as he spoke.

"By the way, I came here to see you and talk about our arrangements once we reach Ebodia Port," Abel informed her. "I have already informed His Majesty about our detour, and have received a reply stating that Her Majesty has agreed to let you come with me to meet your family first..."

"You planned all this without even informing me first?" she complained with a frown. "Are you trying to give my parents a heart attack?"

Ignoring her grumpiness, Abel reassured her, "Trust me, they won’t react negatively once you properly introduce me to them."

"Did you even conduct proper research on my family?" Dani retorted. "If you did, then you would’ve known not to say those words with a confident smirk like that!"

He raised a brow at her warning. Well, he did enough research, and he was well aware of how her family had a hatred against other beings. It wasn’t that they were racists, but what he understood was that her family was against some beings, calling them monsters for their devious deeds against humans using their special abilities.

"I’m sure that everything will go smoothly, so don’t worry too much about it, Dani. I was once human, so I’ll be able to handle the situation well," he reassured her with a roguish wink. "But of course, I will need your help in this so that your family won’t be wary of me. They might even like me too."

"Oh, I do hope you know well what’s coming for you," Dani mumbled, still obviously not convinced by his words of reassurance.

Abel chuckled, "You got my back anyway, right?"

Dani didn’t reply. Instead, she gave him a simple shrug while shaking her head.

"Shall we go now? I have a few men who would handle our things. So how about we travel together in my mist form? We’ll arrive faster that way," Abel offered with a grin.

"You can travel in your mist form?" she questioned, not bothering to hide the hesitation on her expression with her snap brows. It was understandable since no curb had the ability to shift into a mist. Only the exordiums, purebloods, and scions could do so. But Abel was an exemption. He was the only one of his kind in history so far that could shift into his mist form.

"Yes, I could," Abel proudly stated.

Dani’s frown deepened as she pondered, "But how? You’re a curb?"

"Well, I discovered it by accident while Lord Fritz was helping me in my training as a newly turned vampire. We were working on my control in drinking blood but I wanted to hide from him then I suddenly turned into a mist. It was not easy though because it took me almost a season in that form before I managed to go back to my human form." Abel narrated with a smile.

Those trainings he had with Lord Fritz were a part of his most memorable experience. Being a curb was not that easy for a human because there was no guarantee you wouldn’t turn rogue. Abel believed that it would always depend on your strong will to keep your sanity intact after receiving the powerful toxin of a vampire.

"A season? That long?" Dani curiously asked. Abel loved how piqued her interest in him and he would love to entertain that interest to tell her more about him.

He nodded at her and said, "Imagine how weak I am after that because I was not able to eat in my mist form. Lord Fritz told me that it was a miracle even that I didn’t turn rogue after that incident. I guess it’s because I’m determined to not turn rogue but became a curb... and a powerful one on that. I wanted to bring justice for my wife, unborn child, and father at that time and that was what kept me moving...to survive no matter what."

"But, even if you can shift into your mist form, how will you be able to bring me with you? Aren’t the purebloods and the exordiums the only ones who can bring someone in their mist form?" Dani asked.

That was true but Abel was different and even he himself was amazed with the abilities that surfaced inside of him when he became a vampire.

"I guess I’m really a special one. And you’re one lucky one to have me as your future husband," he humorously said followed by a wink. Dani’s face turned beet red and Abel chuckled as he continued, "Shall we leave now in my mist form?"
