Chapter 419: To Protect Her

"Are you alright?!"

Abel was worried as he asked Dani. She had just shouted at him to stop so she could puke her guts out, and she definitely didn’t see this coming.

"Damn, I would’ve rather used a horse than suffer like this again!" she hissed before she started vomiting again. It was hard to explain the feeling, but it was most definitely not a smooth ride to travel with Abel in his mist form.

Simply nodding, Abel handed her a flask of water which Dani quickly used to gargle and clean her mouth.

"I’m sorry. It’s my first time bringing someone along with me in my mist form. I only used to do it with some animals, so I wasn’t aware of how it would affect other people," he apologized with a serious look on his face. "I guess I should take that into consideration and make some improvements for next time."

Looking up at him, Dani didn’t know how to react to his words. He was frowning and staring at a tree, looking like he was seriously contemplating how to resolve this issue.

"Let’s rest for a while, Dani," Abel suddenly stated. "Wait here. I have to check on something."

Dani shrugged as he then disappeared into mist. Left alone, she decided to observe her surroundings in the meantime. Currently, it looked like she was currently in the eastern wilderness of Ebodia. If she recalled, the Wright’s Castle was located to the east of Ebodia, so if they used a horse upon arriving at the nearest village, then it would take them at least one more day of journey to reach their destination.

Some time passed, and Abel then reappeared before her with a reassuring smile. "Let’s continue on our journey," he stated. "I think I just found a way to make our journey in my mist form shorter."

"How about you literally just carry me and run instead?" Dani murmured. "Vampires are quite fast on the ground. Better than a horse, right?" In fact, if they did that, they would probably arrive at their manor very late at night.

"Isn’t it better to arrive before dinner? We’ll arrive faster using my mist form," Abel argued back. "I promise I’ll make for a smoother trip this time so you won’t feel dizzy."

Dani creased her forehead as she snorted. "It’s not like we’re in a hurry, Abel. Besides, my family doesn’t even know I’m arriving, so no one should be expecting us at this time," she pointed out. "Why do you insist on traveling in your mist form anyway?

A mischievous smile curved itself onto Abel’s lips as he straightforwardly replied, "In your viewpoint, you simply see yourself inside a sphere with the scenery around you simply zooming by. Well... it’s quite different for us. I like your warmth and scent, Dani. In my mist form, my whole body can hold every inch of you in any way I like. "

"What?! What are you, a pervert? Because that definitely sounds like it."

Dani retorted to him with a frown. Still, she acknowledged how much she was blushing at the moment. Her heart also skipped a beat, and it took her some time to calm it down.

At her response, Abel simply chuckled, and Dani was glad that he didn’t tease her more about her reaction. Still, his sudden nearness to her made her hold her breath.

"Let’s not waste any time, shall we?" Abel whispered in her ear.

His warm breath fanned against her skin, and Dani wondered if she was just hallucinating at that moment. However, the sensation of his lips quickly touching her ear made it clear what was the truth.

"Alright," she answered as she closed her eyes, letting Abel take her into his mist.

"Relax," Abel comforted her.

Nodding, Dani slowly opened her eyes, and as he promised, their travel was indeed way smoother than compared to before. She still felt dizzy, however, but she did her best to remain quiet as she focused on being comfortable during the ride. Thankfully, it didn’t take long, and they soon arrived inside their manor. Dani still felt like vomiting once she hit the ground, but she managed to stop herself this time.

"Are you still feeling dizzy?" Abel asked while he stared at her.

"I’m fine," Dani simply nodded before letting off a deep sigh. "Let’s just go inside."

Walking in first, she was startled when Abel suddenly held her hand. "What’s this?" she questioned him.

"Eyes are now on us," he said to her. "Let’s do this so that we’ll look convincing. Besides, we’re now literally a couple."

Blinking, Dani looked around, and there were indeed a few servants outside their garden whose eyes were now on them. Seeing one servant running inside the main house, she knew that her parents would soon meet them by the main door.

"Ready yourself," Dani murmured to Abel.

"Why do I have the feeling that it’s you who should be readying yourself?" Abel murmured back.

Dani grinned at that. It was true, after all. Her parents had a prejudice against vampires, but they weren’t rude enough to show it in front of Abel. She wasn’t an exception to that as well, and she was sure that either her mother or her father would eventually pull her away for a closed door conversation about this matter.

It was for the better though. Surprising them like this with Abel with her would probably save her more time from the scolding her parents would give her.

"Right... I wish there was a way to dodge it though," she voiced out, still a bit dizzy from their journey. "I’m so tired right now that all I want to do is to rest inside the confines of my bedchamber."

"Hmm... I’ll try helping you on that," Abel smiled as they walked towards the door.

Dani simply nodded as they continued walking. Sure enough, they arrived, and as she assumed, the door opened for them with her parents looking at Abel from head to toe before they dragged their gaze to her. They then saw their hands clasped together between them, which would surely be something that they’d take note of.

"Mother, Father," Dani politely greeted. She didn’t know whether or not she should pull her hand away from Abel. Not that she could even do that with how firmly he was holding onto her.

"Dani, this is sudden," her mother replied. "How come you didn’t give us word of your arrival beforehand?"

"Who are you?" her father immediately questioned, looking at Abel with a stern expression.

"Good day, Duke George and Duchess Donna," Abel greeted her parents with a curt bow. "I am Abel Ivanov."

"He’s the Chancellor of the kingdom of Valcrez’s father." Dani interrupted with an awkward smile.

"I’m not talking to you, Dani, so let the man speak," his father said with a calm but heavy tone. freewebnoveℓ.com

Dani felt Abel’s gentle squeeze on her hand. She wanted to speak further, but she knew better than to interrupt now.

"I am here to formally introduce myself and ask you for Dani’s hand in marriage," Abel bluntly stated.

Immediately, Dani felt the atmosphere around them getting more intense. She looked at her mother who simply sighed at the scene.

"George, these two are probably tired from their long journey," her mother gently stated. He then looked at her and Abel and said, "You two should come inside."

Her mother then guided her and Abel inside. Despite the seemingly warm welcome, Dani felt a bit nervous upon seeing her father’s serious countenance while he subtly sized up Abel.

"Dinner is ready, so let’s go straight to the dining area and have you two fed," her mother said, walking them straight to the dining area.

The moment they arrived at their next destination, Abel pulled out a chair for Dani to sit on. She promptly sat down before then sneakily taking glances at her father and mother. Grabbing a glass of water to drink, it felt like there was a big lump in her throat despite everything she did to clear it.

"I didn’t prepare anything special because you didn’t send any word," her mother explained.

"He’s a vampire, Donna. It’s not like you can prepare fresh human blood for him," her father nonchalantly stated.

Dani suddenly gulped her water, making her cough.

"Are you alright?" Abel quickly asked her as he attentively stroked her back.

Dani held a pout as she looked at her father who still held a serious expression on his face. "Abel is eating human food, Father," she pointed out. "He’s unlike other vampires you know of."

Ignoring her words, Dani’s father looked at Abel instead and straightforwardly said, "Tell me, Chancellor, how are you different from other vampires? Do not drink blood? Should I be worried if my daughter still has enough blood in her body?!"

"Father!" Dani burst out.

She was about to retort when her body froze. Abel’s hand had landed on one of her legs under the table, squeezing it gently.

"Don’t worry, Duke George. I have no intention of drinking from Dani like a meal," Abel stated with a calm smile. "She’s my future wife, and I will be protecting her even if I have to protect her against myself."
