Chapter 421: Everything

Dani stirred in her sleep, stretching her arms and yawning as she opened her eyes. She felt good after having a comfortable sleep in her bedchamber last night, something that she didn’t even think she’d have yesterday.

"I trust you had a good night’s sleep?"

She jolted awake as Abel’s voice woke her up from her reverie. Sitting up on her bed, she burst out, "What are you doing here?" Abel had that roguish grin as he stared at her. She had to blink several times just to make sure he was really there inside her bedchamber. Although she must admit that she was getting used to him randomly appearing before her face like that. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"Checking on you because your mother asked me to do so and I want to see you," he replied with a wide grin on his face. "Your mother also said breakfast is ready and that you should join us."

"Are you playing a prank on me right now?" Dani snorted as she casually got up from her bed. "I’m even surprised that they didn’t lock you up in a coffin with a powerful spell."

Shaking her head, Dani couldn’t help but feel relieved despite her own words. What she just said was the worst she expected from her parents who were both powerful mages. Frankly, it could’ve happened, but it thankfully didn’t...

She gulped when she realized how closely Abel was staring at her. In response, she quickly touched her hair and subtly combed it with her fingers. Usually, she didn’t mind how she looked early in the morning, but surprisingly, she minded it now with how much he was staring at her.

"You don’t believe me? You can ask them later. I believe they somehow approved of me since I showed them my sincerity last night," Abel casually told her with an unwavering smile before he got up from his seat. "Although, things might go more smoothly if they see how much we like each other. So don’t get startled if I do things that a normal couple would do in front of them,"

Dani narrowed her eyes at him. It looked like he didn’t even have so much of a hard time last night. He even seemed to be glowing with pride since he looked so dashing with his messy bangs while wearing a more casual and comfortable outfit right now. Abel mostly dressed formally with his neat and short side-swept hair, so seeing him like this was a change.

"I’ll be leaving you then so that you can prepare to come out soon," he told her with a mischievous grin. "Or if you want some assistance, then I’ll gladly do it for my future wife."

Frowning, Dani unknowingly grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. To her annoyance, he caught it in midair without much effort.

"Get out right now!"

Abel chuckled at her outburst, but quickly obliged and left her alone in her room.

"That bastard, how did he manage to calm my parents?"

Dani muttered to herself as she tried to calm herself from her embarrassment.

After which, she then moved quickly to prepare and join everyone else for breakfast. She had to see for herself if Abel was telling the truth, but a part of her also couldn’t help the erratic beating of her heart as she anticipated what was to come. Abel said that they would do things that a normal couple would do, and her face immediately reddened at the thought of kissing him before their parents.

"Is he out of his mind?" she whispered to herself. She wanted to hit her head for thinking of such a thing, and she took a bit of time to get dressed as a result. "Since when did I care about how I should look?"

She couldn’t help but complain to herself as she looked at all the dresses scattered on the floor. She did a few outfit changes before settling on what she was wearing right now. It was a casual dress that had a deep plunge, emphasizing her rounded and firm breasts. It was a simple green dress, but she loved how it hugged her body. In addition, she simply let her shoulder-length hair down, letting it cascade over her shoulders.

She wanted to look good in front of him and it was a good feeling. Feeling content with how she looked, Dani quickly got out of her bedchamber. Deep in her own thoughts, she was almost near the dining area when she heard her mother’s loud laughter.

"Oh, you’re finally awake. Come here, Dani, and let’s start having breakfast," her mother greeted her while handing her a cup of coffee. "Abel here brought us a lot of presents, and they just arrived this morning. Try this coffee he brewed for us."

Dani’s eyebrows wrinkled as she eyed her mother and father suspiciously. Her mother was back to her usual self of smiling and laughing while her father remained serious as per usual. Although, there was definitely a change in the atmosphere since his father wasn’t frowning and didn’t look as stern as yesterday.

"I asked your mother last night what your favorite foods are, so I took the liberty of preparing it for you while you’re sleeping," Abel enthusiastically said as he gave him a serving of chicken thighs coated with a sticky and savory glaze that she loved. "Here. Try and see if it passes, but I bet your mother’s cooking is still unbeatable."

Dani parted her lips as she looked at Abel in disbelief. Meanwhile, he took that opportunity to feed her as he gently shoved the spoon into her mouth.

"Ahh."

Seeing those watching them, Dani quickly closed her lips around the spoon and chewed, all while grabbing the spoon from Abel.

"It’s fine," she said with a blush. "I’ll do the rest myself." It was making her heart flutter with how extra attentive Abel was to her. He poured her a glass of milk and even put more another dish he prepared on her plate. He was sweet and very thoughtful. So this was the feeling of having someone taking care of her. It was a nice feeling that Dani suddenly got scared getting used to it too much.

"How is it then?" her mother asked. "He’s good at cooking, right?"

Dani simply nodded. Against her better judgment, she thought his food tasted really good. She had missed this dish because only her mother could make it for her too.

"Did you share the secret recipe?" she asked her mother.

"I did," her mother eagerly answered. "You two will be living together, so he should know everything that will please you."

"You should’ve told him what displeases me too," Dani grumbled with a pout.

"I did."

Dani’s jaw dropped upon hearing her father’s words. Turning to Abel, he simply winked at her leaving her to wonder what exactly he did to her parents to make them approve of him like this.

After breakfast, her father then toured Abel through their manor while Dani stayed with her mother to help her in her usual gardening during that time of day.

"You should come with me tomorrow to greet our King and Queen," her mother suggested. "I’m sure they will be delighted to personally ask you about their daughter."

"Abel and I won’t be staying long, Mother, but we’ll probably drop by the castle to formally greet their Majesties," Dani hummed. "We have to go to the Ebodia Encampment soon since Queen Mineah and King Nikolai are there, after all." There was a terse silence before she curiously asked, "Do you and Father truly approve of Abel? I mean, I still can’t believe how you two went easy on him just after last night. What happened?"

"Hmm... It’s not like your father and I can stop you or Atlas from making the choices you have made for your life and future..." her mother shrugged. "Still, after last night, your father and I saw the sincerity and honesty from Chancellor Abel, making us feel at ease knowing that you’ll be in good hands." her mother answered.

Dani frowned as she stared at her mother. "He told us everything about himself and how you two ended up being engaged. We really appreciate his honesty." Donna added.

"Everything? He told everything?!" Dani burst as her face started turning crimson red with the teasing smile her mother was giving her right now.

"He told us that he’ll be committed to you in his lifetime and will cherish and protect you with his life. You see... you have your brother Atlas, your father, and I also to hunt him down if he breaks his promise," her mother humorously stated.

Dani gulped because she didn’t see that coming from Abel. So he was a good actor in convincing her parents so easily like that? Dani’s face soured at the thought that everything was only an act to Abel because it would be nice if it was not the case.
