Chapter 422: A Slave For Her

Dani felt confused whenever Abel would get affectionate with her. Currently, they were outside near the barn while sitting on a bench watching her father tame the new wild stallion he bought. All the while, Abel was doing his best to be close to her. She understood that what he was doing was to make her parents feel more at ease. But somehow, his actions were giving her foreign sensations that she wasn’t aware of. Like right now when he casually pulled her closer to him, urging her to rest her head on his chest while he wrapped his arm securely around her shoulders... It was... weird, was all she could say to describe it.

"Is this even necessary?" she complained, masking the quick beat of her heart with a scowl. Their father wasn’t even paying attention to them at the moment, but Abel kept holding and kissing her hand. And now he was hugging her possessively in public.

"Aren’t you cold?" he whispered in her ear.

"I’m dressed warmly," she snorted, pointing to the fur coat she was currently wearing.

"But I’m cold, and your warmth feels nice," he reasoned back.

Dani grumbled as she felt him kissing her head. She didn’t know whether she should move away or not, yet deep inside, she felt comfortable around him for some reason. For her, it was a nice feeling to be around him, so she chose to keep quiet as she continued watching her father struggling to tame a wild stallion.

"I think he will need my help," Abel muttered.

"What? Are you going to hypnotize the stallion?" she snorted. "Will you let it become wild again after you’re gone? It’s father’s stallion, so let him tame it."

"Alright. Anyway, your mother is going to arrive with snacks again," Abel chuckled. "I feel like I can no longer eat more food. It’s been a while since I ate a lot of human food like this, and my stomach has been hard at work ever since I got here."

This time, it was Dani who chuckled. She noticed how much more Abel ate than a vampire should. He could always stop, but he couldn’t say no to her mother and would always try whatever her mother offered him.

"Try this," Donna immediately said the moment she arrived, handing Dani and Abel a bowl of red bean soup. "It’s good in this cold season."

"Mother, while Abel can appreciate human meals, please don’t forget that he’s a vampire," Dani reminded her as she sat up properly away from Abel’s arm. For some reason, she suddenly felt cold without her leaning on his chest and his arm wrapped around her.

Her face reddened at her own thoughts. While she would always hiss at Abel, that didn’t mean she was truly vexed about his presence. More often than not, she would act annoyed at him just to hide her embarrassment from him.

"But don’t you want to eat this one?" Donna worriedly asked, and she was about to take the bowl away from Abel’s hand before he quickly ate a spoonful of it.

"It’s good. I like it, Duchess," Abel eagerly nodded. "Thank you."

Dani pouted at the sight of them even as she started eating her portion. He was just reminding her a while ago about his indigestion, and now that she was helping him out to dodge human food, he just wouldn’t cooperate.

"It’s very rare for your kind to appreciate human meals," her mother commented as she took the available seat next to Dani. "You’re not a hybrid since you’re fully converted, right?"

"I was once human, so I guess eating human meals every once in a while is like a reminder to me of what I once was," Abel remarked. "Also, you’re a good cook, Duchess. I must say that everything you prepared so far has been exceptional, and I can’t help but eat them all whenever they come my way."

Her mother chuckled at his flattery, and Dani knew just how pleased her mother was at the moment. It was one of her mother’s weaknesses; having her cooking be praised a lot and be eaten in their entirety.

"Are you two going together with wizard Lurio and the Queen to Ebodia tomorrow?" her mother inquired.

It was a valid question. During their visit to the palace, they found out that Queen Dana had also planned on going to Ebodia Camp in the near future.

"We’ll be traveling in my mist form, Duchess, making that kind of arrangement hard for us," Abel answered. "I would also like to have a tour around Ebodia first along with making a few stopovers along the way to buy a few things."

Dani gulped as she stopped herself from turning down Abel’s plan. She had preferred to go with the Queen using wizard Lurio’s teleportation spell, but it would seem that plan was no longer available to her.

Her mother turned to her with a frown and asked, "You haven’t perfected your teleportation spell yet?"

Dani winced. Right... It had been a while since she practiced. She had become very busy lately, and it cut into her practice time by a lot.

"Do you want to practice with me later?" her mother offered.

"Sure, let’s do that," Dani quickly answered.

It was a good chance to perfect the teleportation spell so that she could be of more help to their queen. Also, it would be a big advantage to her if she honed her skills in general.

"Can I watch it?" Abel asked while he continued eating.

Dani almost nodded when her cheeks reddened as he casually caressed her cheek with his knuckles. That made her reconsider her answer.

"No," she answered with a pout. Besides, she didn’t want him to see her making a lot of mistakes and getting scolded by her mother.

"I’ll kiss you here right now if you don’t allow me to watch," Abel threatened with a grin.

’What is wrong with this man?!’ she inwardly complained. She was already used to his teasing, but lately, he was starting to get too intense with his actions.

"Tone down your teasing in front of my parents," she snorted at him with a frown.

"It’s fine, Dani. Your father and I are actually happy that you and Abel are having a great time," her mother chuckled. "You don’t need to mind us at all. Just do what you normally do as a couple."

"See? The Duke and Duchess prefer us being sweet together," Abel stated with a grin. He then looked at her mother and said, "I’ll try to tone myself down though, Duchess. You see, I can’t help but be a slave for her..."

Dani’s face fell as she thought, ’What a con man!’

Meanwhile, her mother simply chuckled, and Dani could only give Abel a knowing glare that he only addressed with a knowing wink.
