Chapter 454: Resting

The next day, Dani and Abel prepared to travel back to Valcrez. After saying her goodbyes to her parents and brother, as usual, Abel turned into his mist form and carried her away. Thankfully, she didn’t feel anything else despite the speed at which they were traveling, and they both remained silent as they let the scenery pass them by.

With nothing else going on, Dani couldn’t help but think of what they could do at the moment. Judging by how quickly they were going, they could actually take their time and maybe see the sights. It wouldn’t be for a while until she would find herself back in Ebodia, after all, and Abel would probably appreciate being in a different kingdom for a bit longer. Although, that wasn’t what Dani thought would happen. They still had a lot of responsibilities to do back home, and she really wanted to just be doing nothing while her Queen and the rest of her fellows were all busy with their tasks.

"I’m tired, wife... Maybe we can do something else in the meantime..."

However, it would seem that wasn’t going to happen. frёeωebɳovel.com

"How are you tired?" Dani questioned with a raised brow. "We haven’t even been gone for a full hour."

"It’s not as easy as it sounds flying around, you know," Abel’s voice chuckled around her. "Besides, we can spend some time together right now while we’re still far from home like this."

Dani couldn’t help the skip in her heartbeat at the way her husband’s voice sounded around her. She knew she shouldn’t feel like this, especially since this wasn’t the first time she had heard from him while he was in his mist form, but the way he sounded so sincere with her... It almost made her want to just give up on his obvious bluff.

Still, that wasn’t what was going to happen. At least, not without a fight.

"Is that so?" she questioned. "I remember you doing the exact same trip we’re doing right now in just a single day."

"That was before we did everything that we did," Abel reasoned with a cool and charming tone. "I haven’t had a decent night’s rest ever since we arrived at your home."

"But didn’t I see you out cold just a few hours ago?"

"That’s different," he quickly defended. "Being drunk is different from having a good night’s sleep. Come on, Dani. What’s the worst that could happen?"

Rolling her eyes, Dani couldn’t help but sigh as she weighed her options. Against her best wishes, she was starting to believe Abel’s alibi. Besides, there wasn’t anything that needed to be done back home that was urgent enough for them to rush their way there. What was the harm in enjoying a bit more time in Ebodia then?

"You know what? Fine then," Dani relented with a soft chuckle. "We can do something else in the meantime. Let me see where we are..."

Looking around, Dani did her best to determine where exactly they were at the moment. She could see a large body of water in the distance along with a few trees just before it. So they were near the sea then...

"You can drop us off by the sea over to that side," Dani stated while pointing at the beach. "I’m pretty sure there’s some interesting things to do there as well."

"As you wish, wife."

With a cheeky reply, Abel swerved before making themselves appear on the beach. Letting Dani off, he then rematerialized beside her with an equally cheeky smile to greet her.

"Ah, I can finally stretch my legs a bit," Abel hummed as he casually walked on the sand. "I didn’t think we’d go to the beach today to rest though. Care to play in the water with me then?"

"Weren’t you the one that just said that you wanted a break?" Dani scoffed with a raised brow. "How is playing in water considered resting?"

"Casually spending time with you can be considered resting on my book," Abel chuckled.

Once again, Dani felt her chest tighten as a faint blush colored her cheeks. Why was this man being cheeky now of all times?

"How about no?" she fired back with a half-hearted look. "Let’s just walk around if you don’t want to rest."

"That works too."

With a shrug and a smile, Abel quickly grabbed her hand before slowly leading her on for a walk on the sandy beaches. The sound of the waves crashing near them made for a calming backdrop as their footsteps crunched the sand underneath them, a contrast to the current storm of emotions brewing within her rapidly beating heart.

’What is wrong with me right now?’ she couldn’t help but ask herself as she absently stared at their intertwined hands. ’We’re just walking on the beach. Why am I getting flustered?’

"Is there something wrong, my wife?"

Abel’s sudden question caught Dani off guard as she choked on her own spit. Immediately, he chuckled before gently rubbing her back in an attempt to soothe her despite his actions only adding to her problems.

"N-Nothing," she coughed out. She then cleared her throat and added, "Just thinking about some things?"

"What kind of things then?"

"Things that you shouldn’t be concerned about, to be honest," she wittily scoffed. "Anyway, I hope you’re getting the rest you need with this."

"Oh, I most certainly am," he heartily chuckled. "Just being with you like this is already helping me regain my strength."

"How sweet," she sarcastically replied despite the mad blush on her cheeks. "Anything else you want to add?"

"Well... how about this?"

Before she could even question his response, Abel had already kicked some water her way, forcing her to quickly back off before she was thoroughly soaked. Immediately, she returned fire with her own splash, causing his move to backfire on him as he now dripped with sea water.

"Hah! That’s what you get!" Dani cackled.

"To be fair, I really shouldn’t have tipped you off," he shrugged with a smile. "Nevertheless, I’ll admit defeat for now. Or do I?"

Abel got into a ready stance, Dani smiled at the sight in front of her. Somehow, she couldn’t help but wish this moment could last forever... assuming she wouldn’t get wet by Abel’s playful attacks.
