Chapter 469: Feel Loved

Abel didn’t know what to do when he first heard Dani cut herself off. He immediately thought that something bad had happened, and sure enough, his wife had somehow fainted in the middle of work. Even now as he cradled her in his arms, he truly didn’t have anything to say other than to hope that whatever was affecting her like this wouldn’t completely take her away from him.

No, he wasn’t ready. Not when he hadn’t even told her how much he truly loved her.

"Come on... Stay with me, Dani..."

Pulling her close to his chest, Abel fought the tears threatening to spill from his eyes as he did his best to remain calm. Surely, Zaila would come to their rescue and cure Dani from whatever sickness this was. Unless.... Could this be the plague? Did it somehow get into the capital?

"Abel..."

Or perhaps there was something more to this? Was it an attack of some kind? He would make sure that they’d rue the day they even tried to-

"A-Abel... I’m fine..."

He froze midthought as he looked down. He wasn’t even sure if he could believe his ears when he heard her. And as he stared at her awkwardly smiling face, and didn’t take long for him to quickly pull her back into his body and kiss her on the lips.

"Dani, you’re awake," he choked out the moment their lips parted. "Are you alright? Do you feel any pain?"

For further emphasis, he then did his best to check her body for any sort of illness. He didn’t care that he wasn’t all too trained for the task. So long as he could take her in being alive and well, it didn’t matter to him at all.

"I’m fine, Abel," she weakly chuckled.

"Are you sure? Lady Zaila told me that you’re sick," he insisted as he all but flipped her skirt as if it would help with his assessment.

"Seriously, I’m fine," Dani insisted. "You don’t have to look up my skirt to tell that much."

He raised a brow as she then quickly stood up, moving as if nothing had even happened to her earlier. She even had a miffed smile on her face even as she did her best to hide the blush forming on her face. Still, he wasn’t fully convinced.

"But what if you’re really sick?" he asked.

To his surprise, Dani simply sighed before placing a hand on the back of her neck. "Right... Actually, it was all a lie," she admitted. "You can even ask Zaila about it."

...

...

In an instant, every ounce of worry within Abel transformed into relief before quickly being replaced with annoyance. Seriously? "What was all this for then?" he couldn’t help but ask.

"Well, Zaila told me that if I wanted to hear you admit your feelings to me, I should fake illness or pretend to be in great danger," Dani further confessed, her gaze avoiding his as her blush intensified. "I really wanted to hear you say it, you know?"

Abel narrowed his eyes on her. "Say what, wife?"

"That you love me..."

Once more, Abel was surprised at her words. All of a sudden, everything made sense. He did indeed love her, but somehow, it took seeing her in such a grave state that it was dumb that it had to happen in the first place. Why couldn’t he just admit it earlier? What if this was real and Dani was actually sick? What would’ve he done if that was the case?

"And clearly, it worked," Dani smiled with a bit of confidence. "You do love me... And that’s honestly worth doing all of this if I could always hear you say it."

"You could’ve just asked, you know..."

Abel said those words, but he still couldn’t believe his own thoughts on the matter. Would he have admitted it earlier if this didn’t happen? If she truly asked him instead of going through this much just to get a reaction out of him?

"And you would’ve probably just dodged the question," she scoffed, more of her confidence coming back to her. "I know you well enough, Abel."

He couldn’t even deny her words as he simply nodded. Still, as the gravity of the situation lightened up, the more his annoyance became mischief as he thought up of something to try and get back at his wife.

"Well, you just ruined my plans for it, to be honest," he lied as naturally as he breathed, bluffing his way into something that he could work with as a punishment. "I even had something in mind to make my confession extra special."

"Is that so?" Dani questioned, seemingly trying to call out his bluff. "Then why haven’t I heard of anything?"

"Because I know how to keep a secret," he smirked. "Seriously, I even had something along the lines of us having dinner during sunset over a gorgeous cliff. But I guess that’s no longer an option since you already know of it."

"O-Oh..." Dani deflated with a slight frown. "Sorry..."

Abel simply smiled as he moved to comfort his wife. Obviously, everything he just said was a lie. Still, he now had a bit of planning to do if he wanted to actually make it up to her. He still acknowledged his behavior, after all. In the meantime, however...

"I suppose I can always just push back the date," he told her as he gently stroked her hair. "I’ll make it even more memorable. Maybe even turn it into the best date that you’ve ever had in your life."

"As if you even took me out on a date before. Not a proper one, at least," she weakly joked back. "And no, our wedding ceremony and the time we spent together until now doesn’t count."

"Well, if you think that way, then this will be the best date of your life," he reassured her with a reassuring smirk. "I promise you. From this day forth, I’ll do my best to make you feel loved every single day."
