Chapter 37: Who Ordered You?

Arren opened his eyes a bit and then focused on the wall. As reality set in, the red plush lips were bitten. His Mister Investigator’s name was Spade, and his true identity was the Emperor. Fuck, what a mess. His mind gradually calmed down, but now his heart and feelings were in turmoil.

His thoughts returned to the hours before when he discovered Spade’s identity. Their ambiguous moments together and the comfort and security the alpha provided him since he met him.

Arren was initially drawn to Spade’s attractive appearance; he thought Spade was hot, and his mature stature was exactly his type. Then, he flirted with him because it was fun, that’s all. He didn’t know when it all became true.

He was reminded of the alpha’s question: Did he really not know why Spade was helping him? Of course, he knew. He wasn’t as innocent and naive as he seemed. He also had the impression that Spade was interested in him and that the alpha was attracted to him.

Otherwise, as Emperor, he would not be personally invested in his case at all. Arren remembered how he called the alpha and readily agreed without much thought. Also, the way he flirted with him and his tolerance for him. Spade wouldn’t put up with him if he didn’t seem interested in him.

Now that was a problem... Even though he was confused, Arren knew his heart and feelings were genuine. Fuck, how did this happen? Arren bitterly closed his eyes again. He swore he wouldn’t become a plot variable, but the way things were going, he doubted he could still be the background extra he should and wanted to be.

This... Arren was torn between two choices. To become what he has always been or go with the flow and accept everything that happened. However, Arren had the feeling that no matter what he chose... his life would never be the same as it used to be.

Arren didn’t realize he was right about that one. No matter his choice, he couldn’t return to how things were before he met Spade.

While Arren may be hesitant, Spade would not necessarily give him a choice. It was almost impossible for Spade to let go of Arren now since an alpha’s attention to an omega could also mean that he wanted to possess that omega.

This was also because the Duke knew the Emperor had severe intentions for Arren, and with Spade’s integrity and reputation, the Duke agreed to everything. If not, even if Spade was the Emperor and the Duke was a loyal subject of the crown, there was no way for the Duke to trust Spade to take care of his beloved son.

Arren fell asleep soon after, possibly because he was mentally exhausted and had only recently recovered from fever and fatigue. Since he couldn’t do anything to change the situation, he decided that he might as well face them all later.

About what would happen after, Arren was never really worried. Like his motto, he would live free and happily in his second life. This minor setback might be a problem for Arren’s plan as a whole, but it wasn’t too bad as a whole. If he met Spade, then so be it.

Arren was too tired to deny what had happened. Anyway, his next steps would start from here. First, it wasn’t likely that he wouldn’t meet any of the characters since he was also part of the aristocracy circle. It was already a big deal that he had made it this far. Arren was cautious and looked out for himself, but he wasn’t that scared.

He would sleep today to clear his mind. He was sure that when he woke up, he would be able to deal with anything and his new life.

And while Arren was sleeping to clear his exhausted mind, Spade was now watching the footage of what happened in the room between Ashton and Arren and what caused the alpha to act aggressively. Having cameras in rooms like this was normal. Spade’s face darkened, and his eyes narrowed as he continued to observe.

His perfectly chiseled jaw was clenched tight. The dark emotions became visible as his pheromones, which even the scent blocker couldn’t contain, flowed out and became aggressive, penetrating those in the room with him.

His pheromones were extremely oppressive as a dominant alpha, in addition to his natural monarch temperament, and the others could barely handle them. Even the alphas present felt suffocated by the pressure in their chests, and their foreheads began sweating bullets. The betas’ knees got weak long ago, so they had to hold on to something to stay standing.

There was nothing they could do, and no one would dare to say anything. Spade himself couldn’t care less about how his emotions could affect other people. His heart was cold, and the anger surged up. The imprisoned alpha’s vulgar insults and filthy words left an unpleasant taste in his mouth.

Even though his feelings seem strong, Spade still controls them. If he wasn’t, he would want to stride and would have violently entered the room where the asshole was being held. Fortunately, his years as an Emperor helped him remain rational and not let his alpha instincts completely take over. Reason stood in advantage, but that doesn’t mean Spade wasn’t raging inside because he fucking does.

Spade couldn’t let that asshole who spouted vulgarity against Arren be. By insulting Arren, Ashton made his situation worse than it was before. In the mainland, it was said that if you want to see an alpha go completely insane, insult and assault his omega, you will see what a true berserk alpha is.

With a look of indifference, Spade started to walk toward where Ashton was. Guards and staff who were afraid to breathe hard for fear of getting the attention of this enraged alpha also followed him.

With the help of medicine, the crazy alpha seemed to have calmed down. He sat quietly on the bed while guards stood around him. When the guards saw Spade enter, they saluted him and dispersed into the corner.

Spade only indifferently faced Ashton, who suddenly became like a corpse, as if the outburst of strength earlier didn’t happen. For a brief moment, Ashton’s eyes were unfocused until they landed on Spade, and they regained a bit of emotion, dominated primarily by fear.

He didn’t even dare to meet Spade’s eyes at all. Because of Spade’s mood, his face and pheromones gave off a lot of pressure, which made Ashton much weaker than usual.

The silence in the room became suffocating, and no one dared to break away or make a noise. Spade waved his hand and signaled for everyone to leave. Only the others sighed with relief.

They rushed to get out of the room as soon as possible. Even the guards did not worry about Spade’s safety. Not to mention Spade’s strength, Ashton couldn’t do anything to him in his current state, even if he wanted to. He was now as weak as a chicken, so much so that even punching him could kill him. It was not an exaggeration at all.

Once everyone else left, and only Spade and Ashton were left, Spade’s suffocating pressure seemed to pour into Ashton since there was no one else to share it with him. In response, the weak alpha groaned and lowered his head even more.

Spade sneered, seeing Ashton’s miserable condition. He didn’t feel the slightest bit of sympathy for the other. He moved closer to the miserable alpha and looked down at Ashton with disgust. It seemed like the weak alpha didn’t deserve even a glance. His proud status held true with that statement. The disgusting alpha didn’t deserve even a glance from him, the Emperor.

"Disgusting..." Spade snorted, and his narrowed eyes didn’t hide their deep disdain. There was no need to feel sorry for people like Ashton. He deserved everything that had happened to him.

Just as Spade’s voice was terrifying, Ashton couldn’t help but tremble fiercely.

"Y-Your...Ma-Majesty," Ashton stammered. His voice was hoarse and cracked for a moment, probably because of his sudden, angry outburst at Arren earlier. His mind was in shambles right now compared to the last few weeks.

Perhaps because of Arren’s stimulation and then the pressure from Spade added to the medicine. Furthermore, as someone who grew up arrogant, the silent room where he was detained for a few weeks had a negative impact on his mentality.

Spade said nothing, and Ashton couldn’t take it anymore. He struggled to get down on his knees and cried, "I’m sorry... Your Majesty, I was just ordered... I was just..." The miserable cry didn’t make any ripples in Spade’s heart at all. Instead, he sneered and moved closer to the sobbing Ashton.

Spade didn’t have any time for all this nonsense. The alpha’s sobbing disgusted him to the point where he couldn’t stand it. His deep voice echoed throughout the room.

"Who ordered you?" he asked, his cold voice causing the alpha to kneel and weep, shivering in fear.
