The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 32: His way (3)
Chapter 32: His way (3)
Helena continued to smile, thinking it was her name called because she only heard the Wallace part. For some reason, she blacked out when Hazel’s name was said. It was only after a few more seconds did her smile started to become smaller as she realised that she wasn’t the Wallace sister the prince had called. freewebnσvel.cѳm
Helena kept her eyes on Tobias, watching him hold out his hand for Hazel to come to him.
There was a pain in her chest from seeing Hazel step forward from beside her. Helena gripped the sides of her dress, trying her best not to let her anger show. She was on the verge of tears because it was twice now that she was not picked when she should be next.
Had the prince hit his head forgetting that he danced with only her? That he should continue to show interest in her? It was hard to be happy for Hazel though she wanted to be when Helena was not picked no matter what good luck she had.
Helena looked at the queen and for a split second, she saw that the queen seemed to share her feelings. The queen was not bored to have called Helena to a room just to fool her. It was the prince who was not following the plan and Helena wished to know why.
Again Helena believed that something more had happened when Hazel said the prince had asked her for a dance, but she turned him down. There had to be more to Hazel’s relationship with the prince that Hazel was not sharing.
The prince was known to be a flirt so did something intimate happen between him and Hazel? Was the prince using Hazel and Hazel was foolishly being led on? If so, Helena had to wake her older sister up before this got too out of hand.
Meanwhile, Hazel walked over to Tobias and accepted his hand. She didn’t have to look back at the group of young ladies to know that they were eyeing her with envy. First, her younger sister was the only one to share a dance with the prince, she was picked in the first group to spend time with Tobias, and now this.
The Wallace family were going to be talked about for days.
Hazel decided to look the queen’s way to see if she would be addressed and was surprised to see the queen’s face. She couldn’t make out what the queen was feeling as her face lacked emotion. Shouldn’t the queen be smiling now and sending them off?
’Is she upset that Tobias didn’t pick someone from another family this time?’ Hazel wondered.
Regardless of what the queen thought, Hazel believed she should hide that she didn’t like Tobias’s choice. This was the same woman who poked around to see if Hazel was jealous of Helena being the star of the ball to get a reaction out of her. Tabitha should hide her dislike now.
Tabitha wished she could pull Tobias away from here and question what he was doing. She said that the Wallace family were one of the top three Tobias should focus on, but at the moment he was focusing on the wrong one.
Tabitha had no choice but to save her questioning for later when they would be away from the women. She couldn’t tell him to change his decision now to have the palace looking foolish.
As Tabitha walked up to Hazel and Tobias, she glanced at Helena who was grabbing two handfuls of her dress, but she smiled beautifully as if she were not affected by being picked.
Tobias picking Hazel when Tabitha made arrangements for Helena to be picked made her feel like a fool. She went so far as to invite Helena for a private chat and told her to be ready to be picked tonight only for this to happen.
Hopefully, Helena would not come crying to her about this. Then Tabitha would turn her attention elsewhere like to Linda who was second on her list of favourites.
"Now that Tobias has chosen who he will have a private dinner with, I ask that everyone else follow the maids. You will eat together and I must apologise in advance that I will be eating with the king and princess," said Tabitha.
Only when one of them became Tobias’s fiance would they get the pleasure of eating dinner with her. She was not some sort of governess to be sitting around with them or one of their friends. She was the queen and when there wasn’t an important event for the selection, she was not someone they could easily meet with unless she called for them.
Hazel watched as all the women were led away by a maid and then it was only her, Tobias, Tabitha, and a few servants remaining.
Hazel held her breath without thinking as Tabitha looked right at her, seemingly inspecting her.
"I must keep my eyes on you, Hazel. You’re proving to be more than I expected. I wonder what you did to have my son so...smitten," Tabitha said, looking away from Hazel to her son. "There will be guards and maids watching the two of you so be mindful of what you do or say. A maid will escort Hazel back to her room when you are finished."
"Shouldn’t I be a gentleman and walk her back?" Tobias asked. He would love to know which room they had assigned to Hazel. The maids wouldn’t tell him if he asked and he would have to torture Hazel to get it out of her.
Tabitha wanted nothing more than to grab Tobias’s ears and tell him that he was not to go anywhere near where the women were sleeping. They were not to have another scandal of him being alone with one of the candidates.
"As I said, a maid will escort Hazel back to her room while a guard will follow you to your room. I hope the two of you enjoy your time together. Make it count, Hazel," Tabitha said though she didn’t need to advise Hazel this again when she was picked twice.
Tabitha was going to gather everyone who would have been working in the palace when Tobias was young and get the truth about his relationship with Hazel. If he was going to keep picking Hazel, she would have no choice but to show interest in Hazel though she liked Helena.
Tabitha was starting to feel like Tobias was doing this simply to make her angry. Knowing that she liked Helena for him, he was picking her sister all of a sudden.
Before she said something that would show her anger to Hazel, Tabitha turned on her heels and left with a long line of maids following her.
Hazel took a deep breath after the queen was out of her sight. "Am I crazy or does the queen not seem happy? I told you to pick someone else."
"And you need to think about yourself. You should enjoy that I am choosing you and not worry about anyone else. Do you think the others would think about you if I were picking them over and over? No," Tobias answered in place of Hazel. "Or are you worried about your sister?"
"I am not," Hazel honestly replied. She was now thinking of the queen’s reaction.
"So put on your best smile to spend the night with me. I mean for dinner," Tobias said, putting up his hands after Hazel gave him a weird look. "You have a dirty mind, Hazel."
