The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 361: The talk (2)
Chapter 361: The talk (2)
"Annalise, listen carefully. You are not to get involved in trying to kill him. My family-"
"You made me the lady of the manor. Doesn’t that make me part of your family or had I thought too far ahead and I should wait until there is a ring on my finger or my last name changed?" Annalise asked, genuinely confused as to if she was considered part of his family.
This was all new to her, but Annalise already saw herself to be part of his family. So when Travis poked at Rafael, River, or Beatrice, she was ready to attack to protect them. Why was it bad for her to join in killing Travis? It wasn’t like she couldn’t protect herself.
Annalise didn’t want Rafael to always try to shield her from danger when she could help him. If it was up to her, Travis would have been dead the second he came to town so she wouldn’t have to hear about him now. Their only concern would be the truce.
"You are part of the family," Rafael said, walking toward her, but stopped when Annalise reached for a brush. He wouldn’t put it past her to throw it at him. "It is just a problem that my father and I must deal with. A problem my father wants the satisfaction of ending because of what he and my mother dealt with over the years."
"I want to kill Travis because of him riling up my mother, but I stand back sometimes because it is an old fight my father wishes to settle. As much as you want to help, this is not your fight," Rafael said.
Rafael was helping his father with his plans to get rid of Travis. If there was ever a moment he was alone with Travis and there was an opportunity to kill the man, Rafael wouldn’t let the moment pass. However, he was letting his father take the lead in getting rid of Travis and offering whatever help his father needed.
There was regret on River’s end that he had not dealt with Travis before he ran off with Beatrice.
Annalise didn’t like that she understood what Rafael was telling her. River had a long history with Travis because of his marriage to Beatrice. It was River’s fight to end.
She knew what it was like to have someone she wanted to kill but they died some other way. It was one of the most frustrating feelings she ever experienced. She was just so excited to fight and get rid of Travis, killing two birds with one stone, to think about River wanting to be the one to end Travis’s life.
"Fine, but if he tries to kidnap me and I let him take me so I can see him, I will kill him," Annalise proposed. It was only fair that she got to kill her kidnapper.
"Fine," Rafael agreed to it only because she wouldn’t be taken. Whenever she wanted to leave the manor, she would have to go with her guards and some of his knights. Just as his mother wasn’t going outside alone.
They could not take any chances now.
His mother already preferred to stay inside to be with his father and tend to her garden. The most Rafael had to do was keep Annalise entertained inside the manor so she wouldn’t want to leave often. It meant he had to let her train with the knights and unfortunately, see the dungeon.
"I am going to breakfast," Annalise said, attempting to walk by Rafael since she was still upset with him for not waking her.
Rafael stepped to the left to block her from leaving. He was not taking this argument over him not waking her up to breakfast.
Annalise looked up at Rafael, hating the height difference, and asked, "Do you want me to flip you in a room where a spider is running around?"
"I’d rather not start the day with you angry because you woke up alone. I was trying to return before you woke up. If you didn’t notice, I started to clean up our food last night. I intended to tidy the room and let you rest a little more but I was distracted. It won’t happen again," Rafael promised.
When he found out Annalise had left his room, he didn’t think she would be this upset with him. He placed himself in her shoes and thought about how he would react if he woke up and found the space beside him empty when Annalise was meant to be there. He would worry about where she had wandered off to.
"You are lucky that I like you-"
"You said you loved me," Rafael reminded her.
"When you upset me, my feelings change. I am going to let go of you not waking me up. Making me miss the moment of what it is like to wake up together after a good night. To see your face," Annalise said, thinking of how he looked back when she was his maid. He used to look even more handsome when she first saw him in the morning. "Next time you don’t wake me, I am getting Herbert."
Rafael raised his right brow, confused by who was named Herbert. Was it one of her guards from the border? He was certain that wasn’t one of their names. "Did you name your spider Herbert? Herbert of all things?" He asked, hoping it wasn’t the spider.
Annalise left Rafael’s side to pick up the box belonging to Iris and Nicolas. "You couldn’t have been expecting I would call it spider? It is not your pet so the name shouldn’t concern you. Also, since I had to sneak over to my bedroom this morning, you need to spend the night in mine tonight. It is only fair you also sneak around."
Rafael didn’t object to it since it was fair as Annalise said. The only way to get around this was to not care what anyone else had to say and just move her into his bedroom, but he was trying to protect Annalise and any child they would have in the future.
At his current age, he was still hearing about gossip from the past concerning his parents. He preferred not to let his and Annalise’s actions have their children hear of how they shared a bed before they were married and they could be a child created out of wedlock.
Rafael followed Annalise out of her bedroom to walk together to join his parents for breakfast. He was curious about what was kept inside the box about his grandfather and the woman Iris.
"You will probably hear about it after breakfast so I will tell you now that I am going forward with moving the knights to near the border," said Rafael. "I’ve sent the letter to inform the king."
"You are stubborn sometimes so I expected that you would go through with it. There is nothing I can do to stop you so I won’t object to it. It is up to you to move your life for me and start a new town. I will be close to my parents so I cannot complain," Annalise said, looking forward to the move. freeweɓnøvel.com
She liked exploring this town, but there were too many rules for her to follow in the future if she stayed with Rafael. Living close to the border meant there was more freedom for the two of them and it had crossed her mind how her children wouldn’t be fully accepted here.
Taking after her father, Annalise would help in creating a new town that was a safe space for anyone looking to be free from rules.
