The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 360: The talk (1)
Chapter 360: The talk (1)
"I wonder if Herbert already had breakfast. Is Herbert a good name for a spider? It’s starting to sound like a pervert," Annalise muttered.
She was still shocked that Rafael got out of bed and didn’t wake her to tell her that she should clean up and sneak over to her room before the maids started to work. After the night they had, it was rude for him to leave her alone. For her to wake up to hugging a pillow and no one in the room with her.
Annalise stole one of his shirts to wear to walk across to her bedroom since it made no sense to put back on her dress when she needed to wash up and get dressed for a new day.
Annalise opened the door and poked her head out to see if anyone was walking around on this floor. She spotted Edwin who stood fixing a portrait. "Edwin," she called to him.
"Lady Annalise. I’ve informed Rafael that you are awake-"
"Forget that man. He left me all alone without telling me that he had to leave. Do you mind turning the other way so I can run to my bedroom?" Annalise asked, wanting to save him the embarrassment of seeing her current state.
"Of course," Edwin replied, turning his back to her.
Annalise didn’t waste a second running from Rafael’s door to her door before someone coming onto the floor would see her. She sighed in relief when she entered her bedroom and closed the door.
"I hope Rafael enjoys coming back to no one in his bedroom. I am not going over there tonight," Annalise said, still holding onto her anger from waking up alone. If he wanted to sleep with her tonight, he had to come here and she was not sending Herbert away.
They planned to sneak back over to their rooms when morning came and Rafael failed to wake her. If not for Edwin standing around to stop anyone from coming this way, she might have been caught.
"What is so important that he left me without a word? I wouldn’t have been upset if he said he had to take care of something. At least he would have woken me then, but no, he just leaves, making me have to look around for him and hear from Edwin he’s busy. Are men worth this?" Annalise wondered.
She didn’t have to get angry about something so small when she was not in a relationship.
"Forget Rafael. Herbert!" Annalise called for her spider. "You don’t know that is your name yet, but you should still come out after hearing my wonderful voice. I’m sorry about the name. I didn’t realise how much it sounded like a pervert, but then again, you don’t know what that means. If not for me getting distracted by a giant I would have been here with you last night."
Annalise stopped at her bed to look under it. "It’s not fun to hide from your new mother. Especially when she is upset. Pets are supposed to cheer up their owners. Or hurt them," she whispered. "I’m fine with either one as long as you come out so I know you are still alive. Don’t you want food?"
Annalise sat up after not seeing the spider under the bed. There were many places for it to hide and with her needing to get dressed for breakfast, Annalise wasn’t in the mood to keep looking for it. It should love her so much that it came running out the moment the door opened.
"You’re a male spider, aren’t you? That’s why you’re annoying me. Keep hiding from me. I won’t help you when you need food and there is nothing in here for you to eat. See how you do without me," Annalise said, standing up.
Like Rafael, she was going to ignore the spider for a while until they made up for their actions.
Still, she looked around the room as she walked to the bathroom for any sign of the spider. She worried that it might have slipped out somehow where it would surely die if one of the maids saw it or worried that it might have died here in the room.
Annalise reluctantly entered the bathroom to get washed up and ready for breakfast with River and Beatrice. She needed to have an important talk with River and hand over the box belonging to Iris.
Less than an hour later, Annalise was dressed and ready to go down for breakfast. While braiding her hair so she wouldn’t have to do it later when she planned to train, there was a knock at the door.
"Come in," said Annalise loud enough to be heard on the other side.
Annalise thought it would be Heidi but to her dismay, it was Rafael, dressed in different clothes than when she last saw him.
Annalise turned her attention back to the mirror since there was nothing for her to look at.
Rafael felt a coldness to the air in Annalise’s bedroom and from the way his presence wasn’t acknowledged, it wasn’t the cold winter air making the bedroom feel chilly.
"I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you woke up," he apologised, thinking that could be the only reason Annalise wasn’t speaking to him.
Rafael planned to return to his bedroom to be present after the message was sent that she was awake, but on his way inside the manor, he crossed paths with his mother who was standing at the front door. Unfortunately, she caught a glimpse of the carriage Travis rode in and knew that it belonged to her family because of the marking at the side.
Rafael stayed downstairs, trying to convince his mother that it wasn’t Travis visiting the manor, just someone he sent. After Beatrice reassured him that she could handle it if it was Travis, Rafael admitted that it was and the two ended up talking about Travis before Beatrice left Rafael to find River to ask him to join her for a walk before breakfast. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Rafael wasn’t worried about his mother knowing Travis was bold enough to come to the manor because there was a little change about her. Like she had been working in secret on not panicking when Travis’s name was said.
In the past, his mother would have trouble breathing when she believed Travis was near. Their conversation this morning ended with Beatrice willing to tell him more about her past relationship with Travis and why she was afraid of him, but her one request was to wait after breakfast so it would not be ruined.
Rafael then returned to his bedroom looking for Annalise but was informed by Edwin she had already left. He might have made the mistake of going to clean his bedroom and washing up before coming over to see Annalise.
"It is fine. It is not like I needed you to tell me good morning or be there when I woke up. Thank you for not waking me so I could leave before someone saw me," Annalise said, hurrying to finish her braid so she could get out of her bedroom. If Herbert wanted to make her happy, now was a good time to come out and scare Rafael.
"I wanted to rest some more before I woke up, but I was disturbed by Travis at my gates-"
"So not only did you not wake me, but I missed the chance to kill your uncle?" Annalise asked, turning to Rafael. What more was he going to add to the things she was angry about this morning?
