The Masked Vampire King's Accidental Bride-Chapter 639: Sacrificial clan
Chapter 639: Sacrificial clan
Elliana had never thought there would be a day when she would believe in such things. Black magic, sacrifice, wishes, and offering blood for your wish to come true, all of these terms were quite foreign to her because she knew her heart would never accept them.
However, even after that, she came to this place.
Left with no choice, she walked into the den of the infamous Sacrificial Clan, a clan of rogue witches who can fulfill your wish in return for a sacrifice from you.
"Hello?" Elliana whispered softly. Seeing no one in sight, her heart trembled slightly as she felt a little scared.
Why? Because those witches who are powerful enough to fulfill your wishes with a sacrifice can kill you any instant too.
She heard no reply in return. Gulping her saliva, her speed slowed with every couple of steps she took towards the den.
"Is there anyone here?" Elliana asked before she remembered something.
She cleared her throat. Leila had said she wouldn’t see those witches easily until they were already in the den.
They usually come when you mention a sacrifice or something.
’I can do this. Those are just some witches and not some kind of monsters. I have fought so many battles fearlessly. They won’t just kill me without a reason, right?’ Elliana told herself before she held her head high and trotted towards the entrance of what looked like a cave where she was supposed to call them.
"I am here to make a wish and offer a sacrifice, oh sacrificial clan and child of the moon goddess," Elliana said, and as soon as she did that, something moved inside the cave.
It sounded like a crack, but she knew better.
She closed her eyes to concentrate. Feeling someone appear behind her, her hand immediately went for her dagger, and she pulled it out in a swift motion, turning her body, ready to strike back.
However, her gaze met a group of witches, looking right back at her with neutral eyes.
"For someone here to make a wish, you are surely a feisty one," one of the witches commented.
Elliana placed the dagger back on her waist, looking at them one by one before bowing in greeting.
"It runs in the family," The witches commented, leaving Elliana confused.
However, she didn’t make any comments and just followed them when they signaled her to enter the cave with them.
Elliana looked around the dark cave, barely able to make anything. There were a lot of carvings on the stone, ancient carvings that for some reason when looked carefully looked like they were the designs of the past or future.
Entranced by the pictures, she moved closer to the wall. They looked like dancing figures from afar but when she looked closely, she saw fire, burning people while people stood around them. When she continued looking at them, she followed the pattern of a war.
But this war... It had wolves too and there hasn’t been a supernatural war so far that included wolves and witches. Does that mean...
"Don’t look too closely. You’ll get drowned in them," One of the witches said, and Elliana blinked her eyes, looking back at the witch.
"Is this the future -" Elliana looked back at the wall and noticed that the carvings she was looking at weren’t there anymore?
It was back to those dancing carvings that she had assumed earlier.
But how was that possible? A shudder ran down Elliana’s spine, and she gulped before following them further inside.
The place was lit by fire torches. She noticed how seven witches sat on the large rock at what looked like the end of the cave and the other witches took positions all around them.
They were probably the leaders of the main position holders in the clan, no doubt.
"So, little girl, tell us. What kind of wish are you here to make?" The witch in the middle asked and Elliana gulped.
"A wish of life," Elliana whispered, feeling strangely cold as soon as she said that.
The witches smiled at her. They probably knew what she was feeling.
"A wish of life? Be careful of your words in this cave little girl. Words hold great meaning here," The witch warned her and Elliana nodded in understanding.
She wasn’t here to joke around. She knew what she was playing at this time.
"If you are confident. Explain your wish briefly," Another witch added and Elliana nodded.
"I am sure everyone here knows who I am and if you don’t, let me start with my introduction..."
Elliana started by telling them about herself and what kind of predicament they were stuck in. They were on the verge of the war and she was trying everything in her power to save the people she loves and cares about.
After telling them what kind of machines were going to be used by the other party and how it was for the welfare of the witches and humanity along with maintaining the peace among the species, Elliana took a deep breath.
"So you wish to win the war?" The witch asked and Elliana nodded her head again.
"I wish to win the war without letting anyone get hurt. Only the true culprits should get punished in the war. I don’t want too much bloodshed. Can I wish for that?" Elliana asked.
The witches didn’t say anything for a few minutes. They kept looking at the girl in front of them before smiling slightly.
"Little girl, I am having trouble deciding if you are really that naive or just plain stupid," The witch commented and Elliana looked at them dumbfounded.
"What kind of war only punishes the people who are the real culprits? If that were the case, it wouldn’t be called a war, right? Do you want to come out of it unharmed? You might as well just wish for the death of your enemy straight to the point. Do you think you look innocent demanding such a thing when you are the one who initiated the war? Did you not know what you were playing at when this happened?" The witches asked.
Elliana looked down at her feet, ashamed.
The witches were right. No one called her on this matter, but she won’t lie and say she made the best choice when she announced the war.
The decision was impulsive and this was the result.
"Stop it, Shi. The girl is already afraid. We all make mistakes once in a while," the witch who had asked her to be careful of her words said before she looked at the girl.
Elliana nodded at herself. The damage was already done. There was no use being ashamed of it now.
So rather than acting like a coward, she needed to face it.
"What kind of sacrifice would I need to make to ensure our victory in the war?" Elliana asked.
"You don’t have to make any such wish. This war... You guys will win. And regarding the sacrifice, this war will indeed need a sacrifice. You don’t need to sacrifice anything to us, nature will take it from you naturally," The witch said.
Her words confused Elliana, and she looked at others, wanting someone to help her decipher what the witch was saying, however, the witches stayed silent.
The unspoken rule of not talking above the other.
"I am sorry, but I am having trouble understanding what you are saying," Elliana blinked her eyes.
She didn’t like it. Even if the witches said they might win the war, she didn’t like the way they said nature would take sacrifice from her.
What kind of sacrifice? She was already dying in a month and a half. Then what else was nature taking away from her? Her love? Her family? Her husband? What the hell was it?
Elliana’s hands trembled.
"What kind of sacrifice?" She asked, her eyes resolute to know the truth.
One of the witches stood from their place and walked to where she was standing.
She extended her hand and gripped Elliana’s chin, lifting her face to look directly into her eyes.
"Am I allowed to be jealous of your destiny? You get to experience life, love, faith. You don’t know how many people are ready to sacrifice their lives for you. Do you?" The witch asked.
"Should I tell her?" The witch asked, and Elliana looked at the witch, averting her gaze to all the witches who were also smiling, probably finding her condition funny.
But it wasn’t funny to her.
She felt helpless between such rogue witches, like a child who was trapped between thugs but he needed to be here to save his family. That was exactly what she was feeling.
She wanted to run away because of how her spine was feeling chills, but on the other hand, she needed their help too.
"Please tell me the truth," Elliana said, her eyes begging the witch who smiled at her once again, rubbing her long thumb nail over her lower lip before she cut, letting the blood drip from Elliana’s lips.
"I will," The witch said, her eyes darkening.
