The Seven Sisters and Their Hidden King-Chapter 167: White Swan
Chapter 167 - 167: White Swan
Charles Lee was shocked.
Utterly stunned.
Normally, when a patient visits a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, there is a process—questions are asked about their discomfort, their tongue is examined, and other symptoms are assessed to reach a diagnosis. These steps are considered essential in traditional practice.
But John hadn't asked a single question. He simply checked Charles Lee's pulse, silent and composed, before accurately naming the symptoms and underlying cause.
What shocked Charles Lee most was not just the method, but the precision.
Everything John had said matched perfectly with what Charles had been experiencing.
This young doctor wasn't just a prodigy—he was something else entirely.
Now completely convinced, Charles Lee smiled sheepishly and asked, "Doctor Lopez, since I'm here... can you treat me as well?"
John nodded, already understanding the intention. "No problem. I'll write you a prescription. Take it to any nearby Chinese medicine shop, brew the herbs, and drink it as instructed."
"Thank you, Doctor," Charles said, genuinely grateful.
Emily, watching from the side, couldn't help but tease, "Charles Lee, don't forget—we invited him here to teach, not to cure you."
Her eyes shimmered with laughter, proud and pleased at seeing John's competence win over the skeptical principal.
"Yes, yes, you're absolutely right," Charles said quickly, as though waking from a daze. "In fact, I've already approved an official identification for you. With it, you'll have full access to Providence College and be permitted to teach students formally."
He then explained all the necessary guidelines and responsibilities that came with the role.
John nodded in acknowledgment.
Just as they were about to leave, Charles suddenly exclaimed, "Wait, Doctor! I almost forgot something very important."
John looked back, puzzled. "What is it?"
"Your salary, of course!"
Charles chuckled, a little embarrassed. "We've been talking all this time and somehow didn't even discuss the most basic part—your compensation."
John casually waved it off. "No need. I'm not interested in money."
Charles stared at him in disbelief for a moment, then said with heartfelt admiration, "You're a model for our generation!"
But by then, John and Emily had already exited the office and didn't hear his words.
As they walked through the tree-lined paths of the campus, Emily's smile refused to fade.
"What are you laughing at?" John asked, amused.
"Nothing," she replied quickly, then added, "By the way, just call me Emily."
John thought for a moment. "All right. We are colleagues now, even if I only have two classes a week. There's no need to be formal. You can call me John too."
"Okay."
She nodded lightly, testing the name on her lips. "John..."
The name sounded unfamiliar to her, but charming in its simplicity. It would take time to feel natural, but this small shift felt monumental. It was a step forward in their relationship—one she welcomed with open arms.
She was elated.
"Miss Wood!"
A loud voice called out. They turned to see a tall, athletic man in a basketball uniform jogging toward them with a broad grin.
It was Jason, a gym teacher at Providence College.
He had once been among the many suitors who tried to win Emily's heart.
Why "once"?
Because everything changed when Andy—son of Alan Brown, the Underground Monarch—claimed Emily as his woman. From that moment on, any man daring to approach her was effectively declaring war on Andy.
Jason, like many others, backed off in fear.
Even so, Providence College had its fair share of male teachers who admired Emily from afar. With her long legs, stunning beauty, and the powerful name of the Wood Family behind her, Emily was the embodiment of a "rich and beautiful goddess."
A white swan.
Someone high above the mundane world, unattainable and perfect.

To marry such a woman would mean more than just love—it meant security, power, and perhaps even a golden ticket to a life of influence. Many dreamed of becoming the Wood family's son-in-law. But Emily's standards were sky-high, and with Andy's possessive warning looming over her, no one dared step forward.
Not anymore.
Jason was no different. So when he ran into her now, his enthusiasm was reduced to cautious politeness.
"Miss Wood," he greeted.
Out of basic courtesy, Emily gave him a polite nod.
But then Jason noticed John beside her.
Curious, he asked, "Miss Wood, is this your student?"
He assumed John was one of her pupils. That would've made sense, given John's youthful appearance.
Emily hesitated, glancing at John. She didn't want to embarrass him with unnecessary clarification, so she said clearly, "He's not my student. He's our new colleague."
Colleague?
Jason's face froze.
It would've been easier to accept if John was just a student. A teacher spending time with a student could be explained away—mentorship, classwork, tutoring.
But a colleague? That changed everything.
Jason had more questions—what subject did John teach? Was he full-time? How long would he be staying?
But before he could ask anything else, John and Emily had already continued walking, side by side.
What he saw next left him burning with jealousy.
The two were walking close—too close. Their shoulders brushed now and then, and Emily even reached out to tug on John's sleeve playfully, acting coy and sweet.
Jason's fists clenched.
They had all given up trying to get close to Andy's woman... but this guy—this nobody—had not only gotten close, but was clearly being flirted with.
It was infuriating.
Jealous and seething, Jason turned and stormed out of Providence College.
