Chapter 183 - 183 - Starting to act in Ard Carraigh.

[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]

Third Person POV

Kaer Morhen.

...

...

That night was not yet over, while someone galloped through the streets of Ard Carraigh, with only the city patrols keeping watch both inside and on the walls, observing any external threats.

It didn't take long for the sound of the horse's trot to be heard by the guards at the city's borders, and when they finally looked toward the Main Street, they saw something approaching. They stepped forward to see what it was and finally saw a horse with someone wearing a cloak that hid their face, while a sword rested on their back.

"Hey, you, stop immediately!" one of the guards exclaimed, as they were at least 100 meters from the gate. But the horse did not stop; it kept advancing.

"I said stop!" the guard shouted once more, his tone carrying even greater authority.

Before he realized it, the horse was already upon him, and he had to leap aside to avoid being trampled. Jumping away, he fell to the ground as the horse rushed past him.

"Quick! Stop that horse!" he exclaimed, getting up from the ground. The other guards around quickly went on alert, but the mysterious rider was already advancing toward the gate.

The gate guards quickly became alert as well. "Hey, you, stop!" they tried to halt him, but the rider continued forward without slowing down in the slightest. In a desperate attempt to stop him, eight men quickly positioned themselves in front, raising their shields and preparing to block the way.

Seeing this, the rider reached into his cloak and swiftly threw a few small objects forward. Two tiny spheres landed among them before exploding into smoke at their feet, catching them all by surprise as the area filled with thick fog, blinding their view.

This allowed the rider to maneuver around them, dodging the group of knights and soldiers attempting to stop him. He quickly circled the group and dashed toward the open gate.

"He's escaping!" the men atop the gate immediately shouted upon seeing the rider. Those within the smoke emerged, frustrated. Though they didn't fully understand what had just happened—having never seen anything explode like that before—they could only watch as the rider vanished beyond their reach.

"Damn it! Who was that?" one of the guards asked.

"Clearly a criminal! We need to inform the commander about this," one of the group said as another approached the spot where the rider had passed. "Look at this!" he pointed, picking up a shining object from the ground.

"Is this what I think it is?" he murmured. "It's a medallion with a wolf symbol! One of those Witchers!"

"Isn't that from the witcher the king captured?" one of the men said as the guards simply watched the rider disappear into the distance on horseback.

"Damn it! Take this to the commander immediately and go check the prison to see if it was stolen—or if the witcher himself managed to escape!" one of the guards shouted, and the group quickly sprang into action, running toward the center of the capital, while others followed the trail to see where the witcher was fleeing—toward the south.

Meanwhile, north of the city, Geralt and Coen were looking at the wall in a slightly isolated corner. Since they couldn't pass through the northern main gate, they had chosen that place to cross.

Madara suddenly leapt over the wall, landing directly in front of them. He had taken care of the guards on that side, putting them under a genjutsu so they wouldn't even realize they had been knocked unconscious.

He landed on the ground while the witchers watched him, as Madara turned his gaze toward the next thing he needed to take.

"Two are done, only one left," Madara said as he approached, grabbing the third and last horse. He lifted it effortlessly from underneath. The horse remained entirely obedient—Madara had placed it under a genjutsu.

Then, without hesitation, he leaped and ran along the wall, using chakra on his feet to traverse it while carrying the horse with ease. Landing on the other side, he placed it alongside the other two horses he had already brought.

"Now it's your turn," Madara said to the Witchers.

"Sorry..." Geralt said, unwilling to be carried like the horses. "But I prefer to do this the old-fashioned way," he added, pulling out a grappling hook and tossing it up to the wall, securing it between the edges to climb. Coen followed Geralt, while Madara approached the third person there—Dandelion.

He was conscious but not in the best state, with his hands and legs tied and a cloth gag in his mouth to prevent him from speaking, knowing full well that he would cause a scandal otherwise, as he groaned in protest at the situation.

"Don't you think you went a little overboard with Dandelion?" Geralt couldn't help but ask before starting his climb.

"He would have been a problem, screaming all over the place if I hadn't. You should know that better than anyone," Madara replied. Geralt nodded at the end, not denying it.

Madara then jumped onto the wall as the witchers began their climb. Landing on the other side, he waited for them while placing a frightened Dandelion down, who had just fallen nearly ten meters and somehow survived, despite not fully understanding what was happening.

Madara and Coen moved forward on the other side of the wall, descending and retrieving their grappling hooks before rolling up the ropes to store them.

"I think you can head north now. My clone should be going south after drawing the city soldiers' attention. With that, you're free to return to Kaer Morhen," Madara said, watching them as they prepared their horses.

Coen approached him. "Are you sure you'll be fine here?" he asked, slightly concerned. He had grown fond of the boy and learned to live with him over the past two years.

"Don't worry about that. You should know by now that there's no place on this continent that can hold me," Madara responded, and Coen nodded, not arguing.

Madara placed Dandelion on the ground, tearing the ropes that bound his hands and feet and removing the "gag" from his mouth.

"What is this?" was the first thing Dandelion shouted, outraged.

"Don't be so angry and head north with Geralt and Coen. They'll update you on what's happening along the way. It's not safe for you here," Madara said, though Dandelion still looked indignant.

"Where's my lute?" he immediately asked, seeming more concerned about his musical instrument than his current condition.

"It's on your horse," Madara replied. Though he had many questions running through his mind, Dandelion simply nodded.

"Can you tell me what's going on, Geralt?" he asked while mounting his horse.

"We'll talk on the way," Geralt said, watching Madara one last time as he headed back toward the wall, returning to the city.

The three horses then advanced along a small trail beside the wall, trying not to attract attention. As they distanced themselves from the wall, they took a safe road leading north—ultimately, to Kaer Morhen.

Madara returned to the inn, where he took a short nap until morning. When he woke up, he subtly entered the kitchen and placed both the innkeeper and his wife under a genjutsu to make them forget any memories of Madara and the others at the inn. To them, the room he had occupied had been vacant for the past two days.

After that, he headed for the castle to update himself on the city's situation.

And, unsurprisingly, the first thing he saw was the furious king in the throne room.

He had some ointments on his face, and a few visible marks could be seen. No one knew exactly what had happened, which only made him angrier. It was unthinkable that someone had assaulted him. Everyone believed he had hit something by accident. However, the king had no recollection of it, and his inability to remember what had happened only fueled his frustration, along with the pain from his injuries. Even the court sorceress could do nothing about it.

"Are you telling me he escaped? The witcher I captured escaped?" the king bellowed, his voice full of rage, echoing through the throne room.

"Yes, my king. My men spotted someone galloping at high speed toward the southern gate. He dropped a medallion from the Witchers' School," the guard began to report.

"As soon as we realized it was the witcher who had escaped, we quickly discovered that he had stolen a horse from the guard. We tried to pursue him to the south, but our men lost the trail, and he disappeared," he spoke in a low voice, knowing the king's eyes were filled with displeasure.

"How could you be so incompetent as to let the witcher escape?!" the king shouted. "Fine, put a large bounty on his head and spread the word throughout the entire kingdom! I will not let that non-human get away so easily. I also expect that our knights, who were sent to Kaer Morhen, will return immediately with good news!" the king ordered, furious.

Madara absorbed everything calmly, hidden in the room. The king was surrounded by twelve royal guards, a sorceress, and several high-status nobles who served as advisors and managed the kingdom's operations. Meanwhile, the king spent his entire day on the throne, discussing issues and closely overseeing operations along the rivers.

Madara observed, waiting for the right moment to act against the king's plans. But first, he would deal with the king himself and the situation concerning the Witchers.

When night fell, the king suddenly woke up again—outside his room. He felt the midnight breeze and realized he was somewhere in the capital he did not recognize. He was no longer in his castle.

Looking around, he immediately felt lost, searching for answers. Then, he heard footsteps approaching from behind.

"Who...?!" As he turned, he was immediately met with a punch to the face, sending him tumbling backward, his nasal bones shattering.

He hit the ground, rolling before stopping, clutching his nose in pain—pain unlike anything he had ever felt before in his life.

"Ahhh..." he groaned as he saw the blood on his hand from touching the wounded area. Horror washed over him just before fury overtook his mind.

"What is this?" he murmured immediately, his voice carrying both fear and rage as he spoke.

The footsteps kept getting closer.

"Scream all you want; no one will hear you. Either way, let's see how much you can endure," Madara responded, stepping toward Henselt, who lay on the ground.

The king could only stare in shock as he saw those red eyes glaring at him, contrasting against the darkness of the sky behind Madara. After all, he was looking up from the ground, and the young man was already towering over him.

Madara stayed with the king for an hour before Henselt woke up screaming, his mind clouded with confusion over what had just happened.

"Henselt!!!" she exclaimed as the king opened his eyes, regaining consciousness with a pounding headache, while intense pain consumed his face.

"What... is this..." he murmured, his voice hoarse, as if he had screamed himself exhausted.

"Help!! Guards, quickly! Your king has been attacked!!" She looked around, terrified, and cried out for help, summoning the guards as she tried to understand what was happening.

It was yet another day where the king woke up wounded—this time, even worse than the day before.
