Chapter 627: Pretty privilege

Apheitos laughed.

It irked Scarlet because she never liked it when someone laughed at her that way. It made her feel stupid and she didn’t like feeling stupid.

"You seem to have forgotten what is important here. You are training to save yourself, your children, your son." He looked at Justin. "If you think for a single second that my brother will not use your human family as leverage over you then you are mistaken. We are deities, humans, animals, mixed breeds, monsters, everything. Everything is a weapon to us when we are at war." He said. "So, if I tell you to eliminate everything on this world and wipe it off the face of the universe, you do so because it’s for your own sake." freēwēbnovel.com

Scarlet heard what he said, and she nodded. She was not an idiot and she knew that the deity of life would try to leverage her family.

She had long figured out that it was the only explanation for the presence of all those life angels on the Blue star. She had already come up with a plan to protect them all.

Scarlet looked at the bunnies outside that were playing with Justin. One was so small, it was practically a kid. Did he really think that she was so blinded by her cause that she couldn’t tell right from wrong?

She looked at him with a somber face and said, "I will not have innocent blood on my hands."

"What makes you think that they are innocent?" he answered.

"What makes you think that they are guilty?" she responded.

"These creatures are descended from imprisoned beasts and they have no souls. If you harbor some kind of guilt about..."

"Stop." she said to him. "To the deities, the only worthy thing about humans or any of the things they created is their souls. But, if it can breathe, talk, dream and hope, it’s worthy in a way. Look at the world they have built for themselves. Somebody had to have hope for a better life in order for them to come this far. How could you be so cruel to...."

"I am not the deity of morals, save your justice talk for her if you ever find her." He cut her off just as she had done to him.

A feeling of ill settled in Scarlet’s abdomen and she held a hand over her mouth.

"Oh great now you are going to puke." Apheitos rolled his eyes.

Hardly had he finished his words when Scarlet bent down and threw up. She managed to get her puke bucket out in time. She rinsed her mouth, spit inside, locked it and put it away.

"Oooh, I get it now. You only off the ugly ones. The demons are hideous so you kill them without a second thought. The bunnies are cute so you hesitate. This must be what the humans call pretty privilege. No wonder humans love to be good looking." Apheitos chuckled.

Then he said, "However you can’t off a few pretty creatures then you are in for a tough time because life angels are some of the most beautiful male and female creatures to exist. Apo himself, he is the most handsome and charismatic of us all. If you kill basing on looks then you have already lost the war. We might as well turn back here."

"Don’t be ridiculous I kill the demons because they are evil. They mostly cause pain and suffering. What have these bunnies and the other Vi...whatever they are called done?" she replied.

Apheitos chuckled and shook his head. "We have wasted too much time on this silly argument. Let’s go reaper, the pits await you. It’s not the ones on the surface you are eliminating, it’s the ones below. The ancestors of these ones. Those ones are evil so it should sit comfortably with you." he told her.

Severus sighed in relief. He knew that Scarlet would probably have insisted that they leave rather than erase things that were harmless.

"Hold up, if they have no souls then I can’t get any power from them." She said.

Apheitos sneered at her and tsked. "Look who thinks souls are important now?"

Scarlet glared at the deity, unappreciative of the mocking tone he had taken on.

"Hypocrite much?" Apheitos added.

She was not one to flip people off easily but Scarlet had this really strong urge to flip the deity off. If Elroy was in her place, he would surely have done so ten times over already.

When he noticed that she would not reply, Apheitos decided to address her issue anyway.

"The original creatures have strong souls and they are all available for you to absorb and erase. As long as you can defeat them."

That was the kind of news she wanted to hear. And the fact that he had said strong souls excited her even more. She had never absorbed the power of a strong soul. It had to be great though. The thought that she was suddenly excited about it stopped her cold. Lanta’s warnings about the thin line between grim reapers and soul eaters crossed her mind and caused her heart to tremble a bit. She was not a soul eater, this should not excite her.

She touched her stomach and reminded herself about why she was doing this. It was for the children, to nurture and grow the green flame that would give her power to protect her children. With that thought in mind she released her wings.

"What about them?" She indicated to the rest of the humans on the space ship.

"Arrangements have been made to keep them entertained. The oldest, Etienne, I went with him for that specific purpose. They will be well taken care of and don’t worry, they are under my protection." he replied.

"They will notice that I am gone." She said.

Apheitos snapped his fingers and a figure that looked like her and one that looked like Severus appeared in the spaceship. Fake Scarlet was pregnant and even had on similar clothes to her. She had on a bracelet terminal, a storage bracelet.

Unless someone had extraordinary eyes, they would never be able to tell the difference between them both.

"This is freaky." Scarlet said.

"This is freaky." Fake Scarlet repeated after her.

She gasped.

"What the heck is she?" she asked.

"They are phantom puppets that I created to mimic you both. The humans won’t know the difference. Now let’s go."

He teleported away.

"So unnatural." whispered, gave the phantom puppet one last look and followed him.
