Chapter 695: The talk___1.

She gestured at the chairs with her head. "Do you want to do this while sitting or standing?"

He looked around with cautious eyes.

Scarlet controlled herself, praying to every deity that mattered so that she would explode in anger and maybe kill her husband. Every time he looked around like that during their conversations he followed up with the excuse that he had to go and hunt something or he was being summoned.

"Unbelievable." she muttered.

"Not here, we should talk from somewhere else." He looked up and said in a raised voice, "Somewhere without all the prying eyes and nosy gods that are listening in."

Out of thin air they appeared, at least seven gods that had no sense of shame. Shadows, fire, death, chaos, hope, happiness and love.

"We were just passing through." Carnelia said in a high pitch voice.

It was obvious that she was lying.

"We came to baby sit really." Lythia added to the lie.

It could have been the truth but the location of the nursery was not where she was standing and there was no way the goddess didn’t know where the babies were.

"I came because I missed you." The goddess of love claimed.

All the gods had an excuse until it came to chaos. He was upfront and honest about why he was there. "I came to watch the two of you fighting. The war was very short, entertaining but short. We have to get our entertainment from somewhere else now and where else is better than here?"

He sat down, making himself comfortable and he looked at them with a twinkle in his eyes.

Chaos snapped his fingers and offered Alix advise. "Go on, bash him over the head for being an irresponsible father and insensitive jerk."

Esong was quite irritated. This was one of the things he didn’t enjoy about the whole immortal world thing, the unnatural absence of privacy. Deities could pop in and out of their house and life as they pleased. They were invasive, opinionated, annoying and loved gossip a little too much.

"Stay out of this." he barked at Chaos.

Scarlet smiled and shook her head. "Nooo, I like what he said. I think he should keep talking."

"Yes!!!" Chaos jubilated. "Make sure that you slap him across the face and rip out all his hair one strand at a time." He further suggested.

"Seriously!" Esong exclaimed.

"Is he wrong about you being insensitive?" Scarlet asked.

"How have I been insensitive?" Esong looked down at his hands and he asked.

"You...." Scarlet had just started responding when he grabbed her and teleported away.

He took them all by surprise, deities, hounds and Scarlet. Dashing through space, Esong transported her all the way to a different universe and used a trinket from Apheitos to shield them from being found. It was temporary, and would only last twenty four hours but it was enough time, he figured, for them to bury the hatchet.

Scarlet took a quick glance in every direction as she wondered where they were. It kind of looked like they were standing at the very top of a pyramid but not one made of sand. This was made of white glass and there were thousands of them in this unknown place.

"Where the hell are we?" she asked. She shook her head and decided the where didn’t matter. "What are you doing? We have to go back, we cannot leave our children behind in the company of the gods. What if they steal them?"

"It won’t happen, everything has already been settled. The girls are untouchable and all the gods are there simply to watch over them, outside of listening to our problems and making unwelcome suggestions."

She breathed a small sigh of relief when he assured her of that. But there a part of her which was still very worried. Her babies were too young to be left on their own for long.

"Let’s just return and talk from home."

"With all of them watching." he said.

She removed his hands from her arms and replied, "Does it matter? They are gods, they have eyes everywhere. We may have escaped them temporarily but it doesn’t mean they are not listening somehow. I don’t care if they hear what we have to say each other. I don’t care if they watch our fights and arguments as if this is some kind of soap opera. I think you are insensitive and selfish. I don’t care if they know about it."

He passed a hand through his hair and sighed. "I could argue and give you all my reasons for the insensitiveness but I won’t. Instead, I am going to apologize."

He raised his hand, to touch her and then lowered it. There was hesitation in his eyes and conflict raging within.

"I am sorry for everything." he said softly. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

If this was her two weeks ago, she would have leaped into his arms and accepted the apology immediately. But this was her now, after two weeks of an emotional beatdown and she was unwilling to receive any half-assed apologies.

"For what exactly?" she asked.

"Hmm." he replied.

"What are you apologizing for Esong or Nyx, or whatever. Is it for ignoring me after the birth of our children, making me feel lonely in the underworld as you jumped from one one world to another chasing after everything even though there are thousands of natural born reapers under your command that could do the same job."

"Scar.." he reached out to touch her arm and she tilted her body backwards.

"Don’t touch me, not now. You wanted to talk so we are going to talk about everything. Are you apologizing for making me beg for your attention? Is it for making me pathetic..."

"You are not pathetic." he said roughly. "I am the one that was pathetic for not handling my situation better. Nothing that happened to me was your fault. I just needed time to clear my head but whenever we were together you were just so....." he shut his mouth and clenched his fist.

"What, needy, pushy, nagging?" She clenched her hands too as the words came out of her mouth.

As she said them, she felt pathetic indeed. Was there a difference between her now and the woman that died on the zombie world?

Her face had changed, her name too and she was now powerful and immortal and yet she felt so pathetically stupid.

"I wouldn’t put it that way." he said.

"But I would." she replied.

She chuckled softly, filled with self loathing. "All i wanted was for you to tell me how you were feeling, to be angry about the changes in your life. I wanted you to ask me who i used to be. To know if you would be happy about the fact that we now have the opportunity to be together forever.

I wanted you to express your rage and then find a way for us both to move forward.

All I have thought about is how to accommodate you and make your life simpler but have you thought about me for a single second?"
