Chapter 418: Resistance

As for the longevity, human memories are flawed.

Maybe Ashana Zad has a son that looks like him and when the rumours about him being long lived is spread he just goes with to enhance his mysteriousness

Aeryon is very cautious about magic.

Because while he knew it exist, he also knew that it is dying.

The Age of Magic had long ended. Right now, he really wanted to summon Ashana Angah to Wustkazan area

He would be able to answer his question

Ashana Angah has travelled the Steppe in his youth so he might have met Ashana Zad in his journey.

But Ashana Angah is not someone he could order around. Ashana Angah is more of a wandering Ashana

If they feel like it, they would just wander out. And Aeryon himself did not want to force Ashana Angah.

Ashana Angah has taught him many things. There is another Ashana in his tribe. Ashana Soran.

But she is old and Aeryon feel guilty if he keeps disturbing her.

Ashana Soran herself seems to know that she did not have many more years left

"I am looking forward meeting that Ashana Zad"

If things could go according to his desire he would ride his horse toward the west right now to meet this Ashana Zad

Other than his ambition to unite the Steppe, the only other thing that motivates Aeryon is this world magic.

He put down the report and massage his temple for a few second. In the past few days, there are things that have evolved out of his understanding.

But it is a joyful worry.

He closes his eyes for a few second and just a few second of closing his eyes and he already wanted to go to sleep

But the moment he feels like he is going to wander off to dreamland he shakes his head trying hard to shake off the tiredness and the sleepiness

It is morning, the dawn just breaks and the tribe is just getting started on the day but for Aeryon, he has not sleep for three days.

The warriors of Wustkazan, the remnants of the Wustkazan tribe has been attacking them and Aeryon and Belarion had to lead their men to repel these attacks.

Guerrilla cavalry attack.

In a way, it is a harassing tactics.

Lughan and Xiwanu is the one leading this attack. And if not them, it would be Cahya and Chu

But even after all of this, Aeryon is not mad at them. Instead, the more they are like this, the more Aeryon wanted to recruit them to his side.

On one hand, he could tell that these warriors are a loyal person.

On another, he could tell that these warriors are also very capable.

They manage to unite the scattered forces of the Wustkazan and manage them to become a unit

Even though this unit did not pose a large threat to the current Brolgadhr stationed forces around here, the fact that they could do this with what they had is incredible enough in Aeryon eyes

Because they could convince people. In this era, charisma is still very much a powerful method.

The fact that they could convince these warriors to fight with them shows that they themselves have personal charisma

If such charisma could be sued to fight for him, why would he fear not conquering the Steppe?

Talents of the Steppe should not be killed.

Instead, they need to be cultivated. Some chief would worry that these talent would usurp their power

Aeryon did not have such a worry. Most chief worry like that because they did not have enough thing to reward.

But Aeryon has many things to reward his subordinate.

The world is the reward.

Not the small world of the Steppe.

But Yan, Zhou, Roma, Yindu, all over the world. Give him time, and he would take all of this into the fold of the Steppe empire.

But the empire he wanted to build would not be like Genghis Khan empire.

He is standing on the shoulders of giants. Hence, he must make it better. Not only for himself but for the world.

This is the thought that has been raise by himself.

When all the base desire is now satisfied, it is time for one to quench the spiritual thirst. In the past, he did not think of such thing.

Because he himself was in a precarious position. He could not worry about the world when he himself is in a worrying situation.

But now, he is at ease. And his eyes could see further than himself.

Aeryon himself is not a bloody person.

Hence, he would like the world to be at peace.

But at the same time, he requires power so that the bloodthirsty Yan people would not slaughter his people.

He wanted to create a legacy so shining, that even if one day his empire fell, the contribution he made to the world will never be forgotten

Yan people is a cunning people.

They could turn black to white.

And they would claim what it is not theirs.

Aeryon could guess that if his empire fell, the Yan people would surely claim all kinds of things to delegitimize his reign if he conquers the Yan land.

Even if Aeryon rule wisely, knowing the Yan people they would call it a humiliation and would try to expel his people even if he treated the people there well

Hence Aeryon wanted to create such a shining example, that no matter how they try to erase his achievement, honest people of the world would question them

Such things are beyond the thought of the people living in this era.

The only one who could see as far as he could is Mayeux.

And even then, his thought did not extend to simple domination and conquering.

Aeryon knew Mayeux desire.

Mayeux wanted to be a founding minister of an empire. He wanted to help create the foundation of a great empire.

He wanted his name to be remembered in history

His warriors on the other hand all wanted to be great generals and kings. Most of them did not even dare to dream to be kings.

They wanted to be great generals and their stories told around the fire a thousand years from now

They wanted to be legends.

Death is not something terrifying for the people of the Steppe. It is being nameless.

Bravery is important for any Steppe warriors.

The world is harsh and the Steppe does not need a boy

It needs a man. And a man, the Steppe raised. A man that could pick up the bow, swing the sword, thrust the spear

Warriors all of them.

This is the capital in which Aeryon dream of conquering the world

But Aeryon thoughts and the thoughts of his ministers, his warriors, his generals are like the distance of heaven and Earth.

They are so different and so foreign to each other.

None of them thinks that they should give back to the world or that they should fight for the world.

After all, to them, the world owes them and not the other way around.

Life is harsh and life does not make it easy. They owe nothing to the world

It is not reasonable to them to give back to the world when it is the world that is harsh

And Aeryon did not force them to conform to his thoughts

Nor does he speak it

If he lead with wanting to make the world peaceful to his generals, none of them would have the confidence to follow him

Even Mayeux would think that he followed a madman. So, Aeryon give his people what they want.

What they desire. And so, he will get what he desired.

He would work with what he had.

And Aeryon is quite sure as he embark on his journey, there would be things that he had to compromise on.

Belief, faith and promises.

Maybe someday, he would have to compromise on all of this things.

That day, may or might not come.

But the reason why Aeryon reminded himself was because so that he would not forget his initial intention

"I should not think too much of this" he thought to himself.

He shakes his head like he wanted to shake the thought out of his head. Instead, his head is now filled with the talent he had missed.

Aeryon desire in wanting talents to serve him is not a fake thing.

It is also because of these talent that Aeryon goes to the frontline and fight against these warriors.

He wanted to see whether they could be recruited.

And Aeryon is quite sure that they could be subdued.

Aeryon believe if he crushed their forces with overwhelming strength and then ask these great warriors to submit to him, they would bend their knees and bow their hearts, putting their hands on their heart and submit sincerely to him

They wanted a reputation and Aeryon is not averse to that.

If they have reputation as a great defender of Wustkazan after the fall, and they were recruited by him, his legitimacy would be even higher among the Wustkazan tribe

Aeryon knows that the Kazan tribe is a bit different than the others.

They are the only one like this in the entire Southern Great Steppe.

They have an identity of their own

And to subdue them requires more than just strength. It requires finesse. It requires diplomacy. It needs the stick and the carrot.
