Chapter 422: The Nature of Trust

Norgai do air out some of his worries when they were talking

One of his worries that if he surrender there is some chance that some of the Elders might be averse to that decision and would attempt a coup

Aeryon assure him by saying when the moment comes, these Elders would not have any power to change the outcome

Give them some threats, give them some benefits and these elders would be amenable to reason

Aeryon could see that Norgai could see things further away than other people.

But even if that was true, then this idea to surrender would take some courage to do. The courage that he did not choose wrong

What if Aeryon is not a wise ruler and he chose wrong? There is always that kind of possibility.

Putting the survival of the entire tribe into another hand would always require courage. And looking at Norgai, he is not the kind of person who is selfish.

He truly cares about his tribes.

And in his mind, surrendering is making his tribe survive. He even have the confidence to make his tribe soar even higher with the decision to surrender

This kind of breadth of mind, this kind of far-sighted vision...while Aeryon does overestimate Norgai, he is quite sure that Norgai is not this kind of person

If he is, he would already reform his tribe and could be a contender in the north before Aeryon even set foot in the north.

Both Aeryon and Mayeux agree that there must be someone that is advising Norgai to do such a deed.

Mayeux postulated that this person want Aeryon to be the monarch who buys a bone to attract talent

The more submissive Norgai is, the more Aeryon would honour him so that he would become the signboard

The more people see that Norgai is honoured, the more they would believe that

Aeryon would accept their surrender even without the fighting before surrendering

But the only one would be honoured to such extent would only be the first one that surrenders

After all, this is the bone to bait the others.

When the bones have been used, there is no longer any need for a new bones. At hat time, Aeryon would have many people surrendering to him

While he would still have to reward them, he would not reward them as heavily as the first and people would understand it.

Aeryon has many thoughts.

Many questions.

But little answers.

And since he wanted to cooperate with Norgai, these question must be answered.

If these questions could not be answered Aeryon would feel terrified to accept Norgai surrender.

Sincerity is important. On both parts.

"I have a question. Can you answer it for me?"

Norgai nodded.

"Here it comes" he thought to himself

Norgai himself had expected this day since the moment he decided to surrender.

That person has already expected that to win the trust of the Kan is not an easy endeavour.

He would test you.

But if you pass the test, then he would trust you.

This kind of person is the kind of person that Norgai could trust his tribe with. Trusting but not an idiot who trust everyone.

There is cautiousness before trusting.

But when trusting people, they trust people unreservedly so that the subordinate could feel at ease

Yes, Norgai sees himself more as a subordinate then as a leader.

Not everyone is suitable to be on the seat of leadership.

Some people are not worthy of that position.

Some was trusted into that position and found themselves suitable. And then the are some who were groomed to be a leader.

That is Norgai opinion of Aeryon.

That Aeryon was groomed to be a leader by his father. But the truth was that Aeryon ahs the knowledge of his world.

But that is not the only reason.

The original Aeryon himself has some traits of leadership.

And while Norgai could be a leader in battle, a diplomat and a governor he is not.

Norgai prepares himself to answer the question.

And Aeryon is thinking up which question that he should ask first

Both of them have their own thoughts and both of them have their own desires and needs. What is fortunate is that both of their desires and needs did not overlap.

And it even complement one another

"What is your ambition, Norgai?" hearing this Norgai was stunned for a second before he chuckles unconsciously.

Aeryon frowned

’Why are you laughing? Is my question funny?" Norgai shakes his head and answer

"It is just that someone ask me this question before. And after answering this question, I decided to meet you and see whether you are the wise ruler worth submitting to"

Aeryon raised his eyebrows. Then just like the answer he had given Jayeux, he spoke of his ambition.

After hearing Norgai ambition, he somewhat understand why Norgai is not averse in surrendering to him

This is a man who wanted to fight in the battlefield and no lounge around in the tent.

He is born in battle and he wanted to battle.

Because that is what he is good at. Aeryon did not spar with Norgai but he surmise that even though Norgai is a great warrior he might not be able to defeat Belarion

But just because you couldn’t beat Belarion did not mean that you are a weak person. There is not many people that could beat Belarion on one-on-one battle.

Norgai is more of a commander.

If one put good use of his talents, Norgai desire to create immortal merit that would live on in the Steppe is not just some dream

It could be very well be a reality. And what Norgai wanted is a stage where he could showcase his talent to the world.

And he believes that broaldr has the ability to swallow the world. And he wanted to vote early fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

But that still is not enough.

If it’s just because of the ambition of wanting to be a great general that conquers the world and create immortal merit, even if he does not surrender, Norgai could still make something of himself.

There is no need to surrender to him

It is not that Aeryon is not happy that someone surrender to him. But the more he wanted it, the more cautious he became.

Aeryon once he gives his trust, he gives it unreservedly.

But before he gave that trust, he would verify and test it as best as he could. Even more so when it involves something big like this.

This is a tribe. And not a small tribe. Nogai tribe is one of the strong tribes of the north. It might not be such a large tribe but to call it small would be a lie.

And the fact that it survives many attempt to destroy I shows that the tribe has a strong core.

And now, the chief of that tribe wanted to surrender.

If the surrender is sincere, Aeryon desire and ambition to unify the Southern Great Steppe is closer than ever.

But if the surrender is false and he make the wrong decision, then one day that wrong decision would bite him in the ass

Precisely because of that, he needs to be cautious.

"Norgai, that could not be the only reason"

Norgai only smiles at this as Aeryon added by saying

"And I am not the only tribe you could surrender to. I am really curious. Why me?" Hearing this, Norgai knows he would have to use the words Jayeux had said to him before.

He repeated back what Jayeux had told him in the past and even tell Aeryon the three reason to surrender

Aeryon listen and the more he listen, the more he frowned.

And he could not help but observe Norgai.

He listen until the end and he could not help but be surprised. Because of how honest Norgai is.

Too honest. And the words flows like the river, natural and calm. It was almost like.....almost like this question is expected to be asked

Like a student who already got the question sheet before the exam begins.

This is why Aeryon could not help but look at Norgai a little bit weird.

"You believed that if you sincerely submit to me, that I would not transfer your or deprive you of your power and influence. Instead, you think I would honour you beyond all others even my older subordinate tribe?"

And Norgai nodded

Aeryon look at Norgai and he became curious a bit. No, by now he is really curious

"Why tell the truth? You could just hide this from me and just speak of the reason without delving into the specific"

Norgai only smiles at this

"I believe that you to be an honourable man. Since you begin your expansion, you have never broken a promise. Since I trust you, then I should trust you all the way"

Aeryon chuckles a bit.

"Since you trust me, you would trust me all the way? What a good sentence! What a good sentence!" Aeryon feel like that sentence is directed more at him

Aeryon nodded

"You are right. Since I decided to trust you, it is better to trust you all the way" Aeryon said this way but in his heart only he knows the answer.

Norgai nodded but who knows what he is thinking

Time would tell whether the words of these two people are sincere or just lie.
