Way of Overlord-Chapter 421: Accepting Talent
Chapter 421: Accepting Talent
With Aeryon, the opposing chiefs and the tribes that fight against the Brolgadhr tribe could think to surrender.
When they could not win, when the odds against them is stacked, when the gap between the strength of their tribes is so large, they would began to think to surrender.
But if its Dama, even if they have a large gap, the tribe would think twice before surrendering.
Some would not even think of surrendering and would fight to the last person
Because they have seen what Dama would do.
The beginning is crooked so the path would also be crooked
Dama started his rise to power by being ruthless.
Those who did not listen to him is killed without mercy and wiping out tribes is nothing to him
And those who survive the slaughter of their tribe would even exaggerate his evil deeds that it almost painted Dama like some kinds of evil creature spawned from the Darkness
Yes, he is powerful.
Yes, his army is invincible.
And he had never lost before.
But the resistance that he encountered from the conquered tribes is ten times more than the resistance that Aeryon had to face.
If not for Katakura helping him to pacify all of the rebellions and all of the discontent, Aeryon suspected that Dama rise to power would have been cut short
Dama is trying to change his policy but even if he changes his policy in treating enemy soldiers, no one would believe him easily
It is like the boy who cried wolf. And when the boy really see the wolf and cried for the wolf, no one would believe him
Once bitten, twice shy
Aeryon did not walk the path of Dama because one day, Aeryon knows what kind of banner he wanted to raise. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
One day, he would raise the banner of protecting the Steppe people and if he started killing Steppe people without reason, how could he raise this banner in the future.
So, even though Aeryon think a ritual to surrender is a waste of time and resources, Aeryon did not have a good way of breaking this culture.
Culture is not something that could be dismantled in one day. And sometimes, culture is also the accumulation of the ancestors wisdom
It is precisely because of this custom of not surrendering without a fight, that the warriors of Brolgadhr is a tier higher than the people of Yan and the people of Roma that even with their lack of armours, lack of weapons they manged to held back the empires around them from truly annexing the Steppe people of this world.
But now someone has appeared to break this convention. Aeryon would surely honours such a person.
And Aeryon trust that Norgai is surrendering.
Why?
Because there is no need for Nogai to surrender at all.
Yes, this is the conclusion that Aeryon had reached.
The Nogai tribe did not have to surrender to him. And it is not like the Nogai tribe did not have any other recourse.
Aeryon could think of a few ways for Nogai tribe to resist against him.
And the most important part was that Aeryon had never think to expand to the north just yet.
He never intended to stationed many of his warriors here.
His focus is and still on the west
Swallow the west, pacify the lower south, destroy the weak tribes, and then unify the Southern Great Steppe.
The plan is clear
The west is not yet truly pacified. And in the eyes of the tribes of the Southern Great Steppe, the west is not under the Brolgadhr tribe
This is because no one knows the secret submission of the Khagai tribe.
Even though Khagai tribe has defeated the Bolghar tribe, there is still the Cha Ner Ul Alliance and there is still the western border tribes.
There is still many troubles there in the west.
Aeryon himself had never thought that when he truly wanted to set foot into the west, he would discover so many things that are a problem in the west
So, his focus is still in the west.
When the west is truly pacified and there is no other forces that could make any problem, then they could bulldoze the other parts of the Southern Great Steppe.
As for him taking Wustkazan, it is to intimidate the north, divert some eyes that were watching
But the factor that truly leads to Aeryon wanting to take Wustkazan is because the chance is too tempting.
there would never be such a chance again.
He never thought that by taking Wustkazan, Nogai tribe suddenly see his strength and decided to surrender
If this becomes precedent, then Aeryon would be happy to win like this.
To take a tribe strength without having to do anything.
When Norgai express his intention to surrender Aeryon accepted it. But he did not know how to reward Norgai and so he ask for some time
Right now, Norgai is still waiting for his decision.
He decided to ask for help from Mayeux.
It is not that he does not know what to do.
It is more like he wanted to ask permission from Mayeux to do something
After all, this is something that both he and Mayeux did not expect.
If he accepted Norgai surrender, then that means, they are now focusing on two fronts.
They have to if they were to accept Norgai surrender.
But to reject this surrender would show weakness and Norgai seeing this might interpret it as a weakness and believe that he would have a chance to fight against Brolgadhr tribe.
Next time, if they were to set foot in the north, there is a trouble that should not be a trouble. So, he must accept it.
But how to deal with it is the most important thing.
And when Mayeux replied to him, and he agrees with his method, Aeryon finally made a decision.
In the evening as he got the battle reports of Khagai tribe and the other good news on the other side of the Steppe, Aeryon is confident in his decision.
"I should meet Norgai" Aeryon then got up from his seat.
He call upon a servant to prepare his bath.
After half an hour, he finished bathing, he wears his fur clothing and then he walks out of his tent.
He walks through the path and reach Norgai tent.
The guards announce his presence and the curtain of the entrance is open as he saw Norgai welcoming him in
"Kan!"
"Please enter"
Aeryon enters and Norgai quickly direct him to the highest seat in the tent.
Aeryon look at Norgai for a few second and he nodded to himself.
And he sat at the highest seat in the tent.
Norgai prepare some hot water for him and put a goblet on the short table in front of him
Aeryon is not rushing to say anything as he take a sip of the hot water. It clears his mind and then he looks back at Norgai. There is silence between them
"Kan, is there anything you want to say? Did you make your decision" Aeryon look at Norgai because even as he makes his decision he is still curious about many things
Why would this Nogai tribe chief would suddenly surrenders to him without rhyme and reason.
He had try to think of it and even though he managed to convince himself that Norgai surrendered to him because of his massive army, Aeryon believe that there is another reason
This feeling like he is missing something in the part of the puzzle irks him. And now as he sits here, he could not help but want to know.
And this is important.
Because he needs to make sure he could trust the Nogai tribe.
"Norgai, son of Baha. Are you sincere in surrendering to me?"
"I do" Aeryon look at Norgai like he could not understand this man.
With the few brief interaction, he had with Norgai, this person is more of a warrior than a politician. more of a brute than a chief.
No, it is quite unfair to call him a brute. He is just not suitable to become a chief. He did not know how to govern.
But he is talented in leading men.
A few brief conversation about battle in the plains, enlighten Aeryon that Norgai might be a very capable general.
Give him an army and point a direction for him to fight and he could fight and win. To say he is a brute would to deny him of his brilliance
The fact that Norgai meet him and even surrendered to him shows that he is clever enough to know his situation.
And he did it decisively.
Not only he knows his situation, he is taking advantage of that situation
That is not the hallmarks of a stupid and brutish person.
Aeryon could only attribute it to the fact that Norgai was not trained in the position of leadership.
Aeryon heard the story from Norgai himself.
From the early years, he was not groomed to become a chief.
Instead, he was groomed to be the sword that slay the enemy of the tribe.
That was his role.
But then when his brother die, he had to take a role that he is not accustomed to. And it is something that he did not want to do.
