Ayera was the one that brought Burchu to the tribe.

Repaying the benefactor is a virtue whether in Yan or in the Great Steppe.

"You know what happened to the Utgard tribe. Ogura raises an army against his father. You coming here, what is the intention then?" Burchu then said

"The Military Advisor did not send help to the Utgard tribe. This is not something we should do. This is the wife of the Kan" Burchu then turns his attention back to Mayeux

"The wife of the lord should be respected. We should send an army to help Chief Garron right now before it is too late" Mayeux sighed

"Kan. If we intervene right now, we could strengthen our alliance with the Utgard tribe even more. Now the tribe would owe us more. If Chief Garron survives this matter because of us, he will forever be indebted to you. The Brolgadhr and the Utgard should stand together"

But Mayeux shakes his head and then he spoke, his voice is low but clear, like he is peaking from the shadows

"Or.....we could choose to wait. Let them destroy each other" Aeryon look at Mayeux.

This is why he said he understood Mayeux.

Mayeux intention is clear to him.

Before he wonder why Mayeux did not send any army or any news to him about the affairs of his wife family.

But when he met Mayeux and see his confident gaze and his fearless demeanours, Aeryon could guess that Mayeux did all of this so that he did not have to stain his hand with blood.

Deliberately not helping Garron is akin to killing him.

If he doesn’t know, then it is not his fault.

Now, that Aeryon think about it, was the feast really necessary?

Or was it just a delaying tactic that Mayeux had concocted.

Thinking about it, the feast should not have ben so grand.

But Mayeux who is always worried about the state of treasury did not hesitate to cooperate with the Elders and the Ashana to throw him such a large feast.

Now, that Aeryon knows Mayeux intention, he began to see all the plans that Mayeux had set up

The feast, the pomp, the procession, all of it.....all of it is to delay him from going to Utgard.

Aeryon did not know what he is feeling right now

He understand Mayeux and Mayeux understand him and that is why he made this decision

So, he could not feel angry at all toward Mayeux

When he is hesitating, Mayeux quickly added

"If Chief Garron falls, Utgard would be in chaos. This is not a bad thing for us. Not only that it is beneficial for us in the long run" Mayeux continued

"Ogura would have his hands full securing this domain and pacifying the Great Warriors of the Utgard tribe. There is probably many who would fight against him later"

"If they do not have courage to fight, we can give them the courage to fight"

Mayeux did not stop

"And there is still his other brothers. Barbager is still at Dayan. Yonwa had died. How could Barbager would not avenge him?"

"And even if the other brothers could not make any waves, to pacify all the region of the Utgard would take time"

"They just take Rudya, and the hearts are scattered. We could just wait and some of old Rudya warriors would probably rebel against this new chief"

"Instead of fighting now, to save someone who we don’t know live or die, we can wait until he weakens...then take Utgard for ourselves. We would have the advantage, the just cause and all the profit"

"We would not fight a disgruntled population but would get grateful warriors and an obedient population that would have no reason to go against us"

Mayeux did not say anything much but Aeryon could tell, there is probably some other plans in his heart

Aeryon could also see it. In fact, if things develop the way they did, Aeryon might not have to attack personally.

A proxy war could be fought. He just need to supply weapon and warriors to the rebel and opposition of Ogura and when Ogura forces is at its last breath, Aeryon could send five thousand men to snatch it all away.

Rudya might have rebellious intention toward Utgard but if the Brolgadhr tribe unify them Aeryon doubt that they would complain much.

Aeryon look at Mayeux. And he shakes his head

"Ruthless. Too ruthless!" he shakes his head but there is no anger in his tone.

He knows that this is a ruthless method.....but it is also a wise method.

Aeryon could harden his heart and be ruthless toward his enemy. He tries to limit it and he knows tyranny is not the answer to everything.

People mistake power with violence because most rulers would want to whitewash their own evil deeds b excusing it, saying it could not be helped.

In fact, most action of tyranny could eb avoided. But the way to avoid it involve in waking a harder path. Rulers wanted to take the easy path and it is the common people that suffers for it.

And rulers are all born in noble families and rarely could they sympathize with the plight of the common people.

Aeryon is born in quite a privileged family in the Steppe but it is not like he is so far removed from the common people that he could not understand them,

But Aeryon also recognize that sometimes ruthless method could be used. But being ruthless to the enemy and being ruthless to one own family is different

This is why he exclaimed to Mayeux, Ruthless.

It is a reminder to him

I, Aeryon could not be so ruthless to my own family. Even a tiger would not eat its own cub.

He look at the sky, and he could imagine what is happening in Utgard right now.

A battle between son and father.

The cries of war had not yet been heard but he could already imagine the blood that is being shed in Utgard right now.

Aeryon look at the moon, and he thought about Ayera, and he thought about Garron.

He did not love Ayera like a man love a woman.

But feeling could be cultivated and Ayera is his woman

Even if he divorced her later, she would always be branded as his woman. Ordinary woman has it better than a woman of noble pedigree in some cases

And in this particular instance, common woman is more lucky than ordinary woman in marriage

Woman in the Steppe did not have such formal marriage. It is already hard enough to live in the Steppe, there is no time to do large ceremony for every man and woman.

Most of the just lived together after bowing to the Skyfather and ask for blessing from the Earth Mother.

But a common woman could be abandoned by a man and could be easily accepted by another man.

There is of course a problem with this practice and every tribe have different method on this matter of marriage.

The son and daughters that is born from this union always had to live in harsh lives. The mother did not care, the father does not give affection.

The son and daughter, who could say it is your blood? And no one likes to be cheated.

But the common people could love each other and if their loved one die, they could find a man who could shelter the mother and the children

But Ayera married him. If he divorced her, or he dies, her position would always be the former wife of the Kan.

No one would dare marry her.
