I picked up the personal terminal and tapped on the screen to start the video playback.

The camera in the video shook a little like someone was trying to reposition it before it was held steady, showing the door of the cargo bay opening.

A voice then came from the personal terminal and I assume the voice belonged to the person recording the video.

"This could be a historic moment! We have to record it!"

Another voice came and that probably belonged to the guy's colleague, "I doubt they would want video evidence of this laying around… But whatever… If you get in trouble, I'm not responsible."

"Sure, sure~ Look! It's coming!"

The screen then shook a little before focusing on the cargo bay doors, revealing the probe being pulled in by several drones.

There were several other people also outside of the room inside the cargo bay, all of them watching the probe being pulled in with awe on their faces.

"Careful now! Don't damage it! If there's even a scratch on this thing I'll have your heads!!" Someone shouted outside the frame.

The front of the probe slowly passed through the atmospheric shielding and… That was when everything seemed to have gone to shit.

A shadow slid out from the other side of the probe before shooting forward in a spike of sorts towards the interior of the cargo bay.

The guy holding the camera shook in surprise before moving the camera to where the spike had landed, revealing that it had skewered one of the crew members that had been standing there through the chest.

Everyone was staring at the sight in shock as their crew mate gurgled from having that giant spike in his chest before going limp.

The spike then retracted to the probe before it shot forward in rapid fire movements, accurately skewering more of the crewmates before they could even react to them.

"Get it out!! Get it out right now!!" Someone shouted.

The drones started to push the probe out of the cargo bay and the person in the same room as the cameraman shook him.

"Close the doors!! Stop recording already, damnit!"

"Right! Right!"

Despite saying that, the camera was still pointed at the cargo bay doors but he did manage to flip the switch to activate the doors to start closing it.

Since most of the probe was still outside the ship, it looked like the doors would close with plenty of space to spare when the spike shot through into the cargo bay and split into multiple spikes to anchor themselves on various parts of the cargo bay.

It then pulled the probe back into the cargo bay but the doors had closed to the point that the probe did not have enough space to enter it fully, resulting in the doors slamming down on the probe and leaving it stuck there.

The shadow spikes then seemed to detach itself from the probe before flinging itself into the cargo hold, the camera swinging to follow its movements.

It landed as a blob in the centre of the cargo bay and started vibrating.

"Shit! Shit! Everybody out! Get out of here!" Someone shouted.

The camera then swung to show another guy in the control room pulling on the camera guy's arm, "Come on dude!! What the fuck are you still standing there for?! Let's get out of here!!"

He started dragging him towards the door when the door suddenly exploded inwards, blowing both of them towards the other side of the room.

The view of the camera spun before the guy managed to right himself, revealing that a spike had pierced through the door and that the blob that had been vibrating earlier had spikes shooting out of it in all directions, skewering many that were still inside the cargo bay.

The guy then turned to show that his buddy was also one of those unfortunate victims as the spike had blasted through the door and pierced through his chest, killing him.

The spike then retracted from the guy's body just as quickly as it had appeared, disappearing out of the frame and leaving the camera guy untouched.

I assume the guy recording the video was in shock because he just stared at the dead guy for a good few seconds before he tried calling out to him.

"Hey… Hey… You're… Ok, right?"

Man… I think the large hole in his chest would be a big enough indicator of whether the guy is al-- Wait a minute…

I narrowed my eyes to squint at the screen and I realised that there was no blood coming out from the guy's chest despite such a big hole.

Then as if on cue, black matter burst out from the guy's chest and wrapped around his body, prompting the camera guy to take a few steps back.

All of us watched as the shadow fully encapsulated the guy and turned him into one of those shadow creatures that Amber and I had come across earlier.

It then pushed itself up on its feet and the camera shook quite visibly, the camera guy probably scared out of his wits.

Screams then came from the outside and I suspect that those crew members that had been struck by the spikes had also transformed into these shadow figures.

The shadow figure in the video then pulled back its arm before thrusting forward, causing the guy holding this personal terminal to drop it on the ground.

We then got to see the camera guy looking down at his chest where the shadow figure had pierced its hand, the shadow rapidly expanding across his chest and wrapping him up in the exact same way that the other one had, transforming him into one of them.

When the transformation was complete, the first shadow figure retracted its hand and the both of them seemed to stare at each other for a moment before turning to walk out the door robotically.

The video continued though all we saw was the ceiling of the control room but we could hear sounds of shouting, screams and gunshots ringing out.

I fast-forwarded the video but it just continued to show the ceiling and the cargo bay had become silent, probably because everyone else was already transformed by the shadow figures. We already know that these things couldn't be killed by guns so there was no way they managed to defeat them.

At the end, the video ended showing that there was insufficient memory to continue recording and thus it was stopped.

I turned away from the screen to look at Amber, my lover giving me the same look as I was giving her.

I guess now we know what happened to the crew… I should just bring this personal terminal along as proof for Hasani to see.

"So… Is that some kind of alien creature that assimilates humans or something?" I asked.

Amber nodded in the direction of my hand, "Maybe that's why that thing wanted us to come here? Last I remembered, Don't they look something like that as well? Maybe it was trying to get us here to turn us into one of them?"

My finger started wagging back and forth desperately.

Updat𝓮d from freewēbnoveℓ.com.

Amber scowled at it, "Oh really? If that's not the case, then why did you bring us here?"

It then moved my finger to point in the direction of the cargo bay doors where the probe was now slowly floating out of the cargo bay and into open space.

Ok… So it wants the probe? Maybe there's something on it that it's looking for?

I paused, "Wait… That reminds me… Where's the blob that caused this in the first place? It's not on the probe, is it? Because if it is… I'm not taking that on board my ship!"

Right as I said that aloud, a crash came from the reinforced door that we had come from, revealing the giant shadow figure standing there amongst the debris.

Great…

Amber clucked her tongue, "Leave it to me…"

The figure looked around the cargo bay, clearly searching for us before turning towards the control room as Amber stepped out of it.

It pulled back its fist again but Amber didn't give it a chance to attack this time as flames materialised around her before she threw them forward, blasting the shadow figure in a torrent of fire.

The fire was big enough that it completely consumed the shadow figure in the fire.

When Amber shut off the fire, I expected to see it burning or something but… It had been completely incinerated, leaving nothing behind.

Huh… So fire really was its weakness.

Guess taking Amber along really was the right choice.

Right as I thought of that, the entire ship shook and I almost lost my balance before managing to hold onto the wall to steady myself.

Then, the door at the opposite side of where we entered blasted open, revealing several spikes and a large blob behind it.

Welp… That answers my earlier question of where that blob was…
