Chapter 247: I Wish For My Parents

I heard a soft chuckle over my shoulder just as I bumped into Chang Xuefeng. "You need to deal with this!" I grunted, pointing to the little girl. Seriously, I had no idea how to deal with children; I had never really been exposed to them enough to develop antibodies.

Shuddering slightly, I looked up at Daddy. "You’re Daddy," I hissed at him as he continued to look at me with a smile on his face. "You can get her away from me. But you can’t be her Daddy." Yeah, as much as I wanted him to deal with the kid, I also wasn’t big on sharing.

So sue me.

"Sorry, Princess," smiled Chang Xuefeng as he gently brushed my hair away from my face. "But she is asking for a wish. That makes it more in your department than mine."

Clearly done with waiting for us, the kid started talking again.

"It’s not nice not to share. Mrs. Mount told me that it was important that everyone share. If you were in her class, I’m sure she would have told you the same thing," replied the little girl with her arms crossed in front of her, her foot tapping impatiently.

Was this kid really calling me out for never having gone to school?

"Must have missed that day," I replied, my eyes narrowing as all my fear of little kids disappeared in that instant. Now I was too pissed off. "First of all, witches don’t grant wishes. They do magic and things to make themselves happy, but they don’t go around granting wishes. Even I know that. You are looking for a genie."

Sticking my lollypop back into my mouth, I used it to keep myself occupied so I didn’t make the kid cry. On a side note, cheesecake isn’t a good lollypop flavor. I’ll have to find my banana ones next.

The kid shrugged her shoulder and stepped into the house, her hand on her hips as she smirked at me. AT ME! Seriously, how could such a tiny being have the guts to smirk at the Devil?!? Didn’t Mrs. Mount teach her better?

"I’m not leaving until my wish is granted," she said slowly like I was hard of hearing. Looking around the lobby, she found the living room and invited herself in.

"Stop!" I growled as she left footprints on the floor. If she thought I wouldn’t touch her cause she was a kid, she clearly didn’t know who she was dealing with. "If you want to make a wish, you need a sacrifice. What are you willing to give up for it?"

The kid stopped and looked at me, all the innocence dissolving from her face as she studied me like an adult. Ah, I recognized that look.

"The soul of my firstborn?" she suggested, the smirk back on her face. "Seeing how much you like kids."

"Hard pass," I bit out, taking the lollypop out of my mouth and pointing it at the girl. "But you are good. I didn’t even see this coming."

"No one ever does," shrugged the girl. "But you are a bit of an idiot if like can’t recognize like."

"We are nothing alike," I sneered at her. It fucking sucked having my own act thrown back in my face, but now that I knew she might just look like a kid, I was in a better headspace when it came to dealing with her.

"The Devil and a Demon," shrugged the girl as she tapped her chest. Looking closer, I could see a black orb surrounding her heart like it was trying to protect her. Is that what happened to the seeds? They could grow and merge like that?

Now, wasn’t that interesting?

"A pride demon," I nodded, leaning against Chang Xuefeng. "I guess it does make sense if you are willing to come find me."

"My name is Hazel-Anne," replied the kid, narrowing her eyes. "And if you didn’t want to attract demons, I suggest that you stop putting out the feeling of home. I could feel it from two Regions over."

"I called to you?" I asked, raising my eyebrow. And how the hell had this little girl managed to walk across two Regions?

"Your house did," agreed the girl. "It is like a homing beacon, drawing me closer. I can only assume that I won’t be the only one."

I really didn’t like that idea... but, for the moment, I was unable to do anything about it. Might as well work on the problem in front of me.

"What is your wish?" I asked, finishing off my lollypop and getting down to business.

"What sacrifice will you ask?" shot back the demon, her smirk back on her face.

"For you to never come looking for me again," I replied just as fast. "I just want to live here peacefully."

"Well," chuckled the girl as she shook her head. "That seems boring. If your entire reason for living is to go from point A to point B to point C to point Dead, what is the point of even living? I mean, maybe point Z is something absolutely mind-blowing, and you never discovered it because you were too focused on B or C? Silly girl, as the Devil, you really have to think bigger. Find all the points before settling down and dying."

Her words had me completely stunned. I had never thought about it that way. Was I really just going from one point to another? I mean, I thought I was fun... and there were a lot of twists and turns in my life so far...

But she also had a point when it came to discovering more. I mean, there were 26 letters in the alphabet... why not go out and see them?

"Thank you for your advice," I smiled at her warmly. "It was your payment for your wish."

Hazel-Anne nodded her head and smiled at me. "I wish for my parents to come back to me," she said. "Not another set of parents, or even two random strangers that could pretend to be my parents. I want MY parents back."

I raised an eyebrow at that statement. Then again, if she is moving around so much, then I could see why she would need adults around. It was the same reason why I needed the Sins. The world was never a safe place for little girls.

"Deal accepted."
