Born Into Villain's Family: I Have a 200\% Rebate System-Chapter 54: Police?
Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Police?
Lucas rubbed his chin.
"At first, I thought she was just some spoiled rich kid showing off, but this is too much. Even rich people don’t just throw gold around like that."
Adriana sighed.
"Yeah, and it’s not just the gold. Remember the first time she gave them gold? She acted like it was no big deal. And today, she literally dragged Mom and Dad to a gold shop like she was buying groceries."
Olivia tilted her head. "Do you think she’s doing something illegal?"
Theodore frowned. "Like what?"
Olivia shrugged. "I don’t know... money laundering? Black market stuff?"
Lucas snorted. "She doesn’t look like a criminal."
Adriana rolled her eyes. "That doesn’t mean anything. Rich people hide secrets all the time."
Olivia bit her lip. "Or maybe she’s in trouble? Maybe she’s trying to get rid of the gold before someone catches her?"
Theodore shook his head. "If that was the case, she wouldn’t be so... casual about it."
Lucas sighed. "Okay, let’s think logically. What do we know about Emily?"
Adriana counted on her fingers.
"She showed up suddenly. She’s ridiculously rich. She gives away gold like candy. She’s staying here because of her evil mother-in-law and a villainous husband."
The siblings sat in silence for a moment, thinking about what Adriana had just said.
Lucas crossed his arms. "So, she’s running away from her evil mother-in-law and a villainous husband? That sounds like a movie plot."
Theodore frowned. "But what if it’s true? What if she’s really in danger?"
Olivia bit her lip. "Should we... report her to the police?"
Everyone went silent.
Adriana hesitated. "I mean, we don’t know if she did something wrong, but—"
Suddenly, a strange rustling noise came from the rooftop door.
All four of them froze.
The sound was soft at first like someone shifting their weight, but then it became louder—like footsteps approaching.
Theodore grabbed Olivia’s arm. "W-what was that?" he whispered.
Lucas swallowed hard, his hands clenching into fists.
Adriana’s face paled. "I-Is someone there?"
Another noise. This time, it was the creak of the door slowly being pushed open.
In an instant, panic spread through the group.
Theodore, Olivia, and Adriana darted behind Lucas, using him as a shield.
Lucas, though scared himself, stood his ground and tried to keep his voice steady. "W-who’s there?"
The siblings stared at the door, their hearts pounding.
And then—
A face popped out from the darkness.
"BOO!"
"AHHHHHH!"
All four of them screamed at the top of their lungs.
Lucas jumped back, nearly tripping. Adriana clutched onto his arm, her nails digging into his skin. Theodore and Olivia held onto each other like their lives depended on it.
Lucas patted his chest, trying to catch his breath. His voice came out louder than he expected.
"Aurora?! What are you doing here?!"
Under the dim rooftop light, the figure stepped forward, revealing herself completely. It was Aurora.
She was holding a flashlight under her chin, casting eerie shadows on her face, making her look ghostly.
Aurora burst into laughter, clutching her stomach.
"Oh my god! You should have seen your faces!" she cackled. "You all looked like you saw a real ghost!"
Lucas glared at her, still breathing hard. "That wasn’t funny!"
Adriana crossed her arms. "Yeah! You almost gave us a heart attack!"
Theodore sighed in relief, but he couldn’t help but be a little sarcastic toward her,
"See I told you! She has the potential to be a megastar if she gets cast for ghost’s role every single time!"
Aurora grinned and wiggled her fingers in front of her face. "Oooooh, maybe I am a ghost!"
Theodore rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, very funny." He huffed. "Next time, warn us before you nearly scare us to death."
Aurora smirked. "Where’s the fun in that?"
Olivia finally let go of Theodore and put her hands on her hips. "Seriously, Aurora! Why are you even here?"
Aurora flicked off her flashlight and shrugged.
"I heard you guys whispering up here and thought, hmm, what are they plotting? So I came to check it out." She wiggled her eyebrows. "And lucky me, I got to scare some scaredy-cats along the way."
Lucas groaned. Then he noticed that Aurora didn’t wear a hoodie and was frustrated,
"How many times do I have to tell you to wear a hoodie or something warm? Do you want to get sick?"
With that, he took off his own hoodie and helped her wear it.
Adriana took out her hoodie and wrapped Aurora’s face with it.
Theodore pouted,
"Hey, I never got such attention from you both."
Both Lucas and Adriana rolled their eyes.
Olivia on the other hand laughed and pointed at Aurora,
"Hey Aurora, don’t mind but you look like a penguin now."
Aurora: "..." I mind! I do mind!
She changed the subject when she knew she would be only insulted more if she continued.
"What were you guys whispering about so seriously?"
Lucas, Theodore, Adriana, and Olivia exchanged looks.
"Nothing," Lucas said a little too quickly.
Aurora gasped dramatically. "Ooooh, it’s a secret!" She plopped down on the floor, crossing her legs.
"Come on, spill! I promise I won’t tell anyone."
Adriana hesitated, then sighed. "We were just talking about Emily."
Aurora’s eyes lit up. "Ooooh, mysterious Emily! What about her?"
Theodore leaned against the railing. "Well... don’t you think she’s a little too rich?"
Aurora snorted. "Pfft, yeah. What’s your point?"
Olivia sighed. "Like, she gives away gold like it’s candy. Who does that?"
Aurora tapped her chin. "Huh. Good question."
Then she looked at her siblings and pointed out,
"Maybe that is what she has been doing all her life."
"Huh?" The siblings were confused.
"I mean what seems to be absurd for us, maybe is just normal for her," Aurora explained, shrugging.
"Maybe she grew up with so much gold that throwing it around doesn’t feel weird to her."
Lucas frowned.
"That still doesn’t explain why she’s doing it. Even if she’s rich, it’s not normal to act like gold is pocket change."
Theodore crossed his arms.
