My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 398: Necromancy
Chapter 398: Necromancy
After Athena arrived at the city’s center and interrupted our encounter with Drakzen, she instantly went on the offensive against Calisto, the giant gray bear.
’Family reunion?’ I pondered, as Drakzen referred to it as such.
When I noticed Athena’s face, she was showing her teeth with evident anger, but her growls sounded somewhat sad.
My infernal bear companion couldn’t speak to me, and she wasn’t able to use telepathy yet. Nevertheless, after observing her for a few seconds, I started to understand what was happening.
"I see. Calisto was your partner..." I muttered, making Athena gaze at me momentarily with sadness in her eyes.
Vespera, who could understand the body language of every animal, confirmed that Calisto was the father of Apollo, the bear cub.
’Drakzen...!’ I thought, my imaginary rage meter reaching the top.
"Ichiro, leave this to us," Vespera commented, getting into a more stable stance as she prepared to attack Calisto.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"I’ll regroup with you when we are done here..." she confidently replied, so I accepted her resolve and started flying away to follow Drakzen.
I could sense that the devil was trying to hide his demonic energy again, but after our encounter, my mind was fresh with the feeling, so I could still track him down with my "search" spell.
’He is going to the outskirts...’ I thought, flying above the chaotic battle that engulfed the city.
"Ichiro!" I heard someone calling my name in the skies.
"Harvey, how’s the advance?" I asked the knight, who started flying right next to me.
"All gates are open, and our forces are inside!" he replied.
"Focus your men on the Accursed Beasts and tell the warriors and ice knights to keep cleansing the citizens!" I shouted with a somewhat commanding tone.
I wasn’t truly confident with my leadership skills, but I didn’t think about it at that moment, as I was simply looking for the best course of action.
Suddenly, I felt a huge surge of MP coming our way. It was still a few kilometers away from reaching the city, but since I had my "search" spell active, the presence was quite intense.
’Is that... A sage?’ I wondered, thinking that the only people I had met with that crazy amount of energy were the sages from the Mage’s Tower.
The emperor had an MP pool similar to the sages, but I could tell that it wasn’t Thorun who was coming our way as he was fighting Luca and Florencia somewhere in the city.
Not wanting to leave it unchecked, I started flying towards the unknown person, and after a few minutes of flying at high speeds, I could see a small figure approaching in the skies.
"Sage Ichiro!" the man yelled.
"Umm, Sage Louie, right?" I greeted the man, unsure if I had his name correctly.
Sage Louie was Sage Devon’s best friend, and I had only seen him one or two times at the Mage’s Tower when we visited. However, we never exchanged more than a few words with each other.
I had heard from Devon that Louie was working on a magical artifact that would help us in the future, but he said that to me months ago, so I had already forgotten about it.
"I’ve completed it... Visual transmission magic!" Louie said, his voice sounding nervous and proud at the same time.
"Sage Astra told us that we needed to show the world the truth, so leave it to me..." the old sage continued.
However, I had so many things going on at once that I didn’t fully understand what he meant.
"Do as you wish, but be careful out there..." I said, focusing on tracking Drakzen again.
Without saying another word, we split up and flew in different directions, sensing the devil on the outskirts where Fuego was located.
It took me a few minutes to reach them, and I found Drakzen and another humanoid figure standing before Fuego, also in his human form.
When I descended and stood beside my dragon friend, he gazed at me to check the egg in my backpack and turned his focus back on the two enemies.
"Is that...?" I started asking.
"My brother... Or what’s left of him," Fuego replied.
The man who stood next to Drakzen with a completely neutral and indifferent expression was the former Rock Dragon, who had supposedly died fighting demons a long time ago.
"Cool, huh?" Drakzen interjected.
"Necromancy is such a fickle magic. I didn’t know it would work out this well!" the devil continued.
"Necromancy? So, it’s basically a zombie?" I muttered.
The Rock Dragon was oozing both MP and demonic energy from his body, similar to Sinoc on Guanghua.
However, the past mage had voluntarily infused the demon power in him, while the Rock Dragon was more like a puppet.
I was a bit surprised at the lack of emotion that Fuego showed. If the zombie had been someone I knew, then I would have been fuming with anger.
Still, while the dragon seemed composed, I could sense the irregularities in his MP flowing out, suppressing his own emotions.
We were standing on a snow-covered field that buried our feet slightly as black smoke rose from the city behind us.
I took a deep breath and took my bo out of my void pocket, along with a healing potion to cure the wounds on my leg and arm, as I had been enduring the pain all that time.
Luckily, Drakzen didn’t mind giving me time to heal up, almost as if we wanted me to be in perfect shape for our encounter.
Nonetheless, he also used that time to protrude a blade from one of his arms, which looked as if he was pulling out his bone.
Drakzen’s arm didn’t show any signs of being hurt. Instead, the small blade caught purple fire and turned into a much larger, one-edged, black sword.
"No matter what happens, you must protect the egg..." Fuego whispered to me.
Without taking my gaze off our opponents, I nodded in understanding and positioned myself in a more stable stance.
"Ready when you are..." I whispered back.
