My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 409: The Weight of a City
Chapter 409: The Weight of a City
After I managed to catch up to the floating city with Yoru, I quickly flew upwards and saw how the people were holding onto any structure around them.
The entire city had essentially become a flying island, and the more it went up, the more it shook, so the citizens were bracing themselves with pure fear on their faces.
When I looked up, I could see the Earth Dragon above the clouds with his wings fully extended, but I couldn’t simply attack him and bring down the city.
’What the hell can I do...?’ I thought, and my doubts made my awakening wane.
I could see plenty of soldiers unconscious on the ground. Since Melina killed Baelzor, all of the imps that were possessing them had left their bodies, so most of them lost consciousness.
It wasn’t easy to detail people’s faces from the height where I was flying, but somehow, when I looked to the side and spotted a man lying face up on the ground, I could see his face clearly.
’Is that...?’ I wondered.
I had the feeling that I had seen that man before, but I couldn’t remember where. Moreover, it wouldn’t make sense for me to know any of the enemy soldiers, so it took me a few seconds to figure it out.
’Ah... I remember,’ I thought, reminiscing about my time in The Pit before it got destroyed by Drakzen and Baelzor.
The man I saw was Helena’s husband, one of the first people who got possessed by the imps and ran to warn his family.
I remembered my promise to Helena and her daughter, May, when the mom was about to come to the battle with us to look for her husband, but I ended up sending them both away to the Droman Empire.
After taking a deep breath, I stabilized my awakening transformation and flew upwards at the highest speed I could muster.
"Ichiro!" I heard a man calling my name mid-air.
"Sage Louie!?" I exclaimed, shocked to see the sage flying behind me.
Sage Louie was the one who was using his magic to record and transmit all of the events to the rest of the world.
His tiny camera crystals were flying all over the battlefield while he stood in a safe place, feeding magic into his transmission spell like a battery.
However, noticing that the situation had taken a turn for the worse, he cut the live feed of the battle and accompanied me high up in the skies.
Suddenly, I felt another surge of powerful MP nearby, and Sage Devon appeared right next to us a second later, startling me.
"What the-!? Sage Devon!? What the hell are you doing here...?" I asked, slightly shocked about their presence.
"Ichiro, do you think we are just going to stand by while watching this mess!?" Devon exclaimed.
I later learned that Sage Devon was at the Sephyr Kingdom, watching the battle with the royal family, and as soon as Melina took down Baelzor, the king ordered Devon to come to us for support.
Fortunately, he used the magic quartz that the reinforcement knights used, so he landed about ten kilometers away from the city and then cast his "home dimension" spell to cut the distance between us, appearing right next to us.
"What’s the plan!?" Sage Devon asked as the three of us watched the city slowly fly upwards towards us.
"I’ll bring the city back down..." I muttered, shocking the two sages.
"Ichiro... It’s a whole city," Devon commented, and he had a point.
I didn’t think that my magic would be powerful enough to hold the city in the air and gently bring it back down into the crater it left beneath. Still, it was the only idea I could think of.
’Sometimes you just gotta brute force your way to victory...’ I thought, increasing the power that flowed from my awakening.
When I took a deep breath and pointed my bo at the city under me, my eyes sharpened, and the aura flowing around my body looked more uniform.
"Stop!" I shouted, prompting the city to abruptly halt its ascension to the sky. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
A purple light appeared all around the ringed city, which generated a strange sound that reverberated in everyone’s ears as if the space was being ripped apart.
When I held the city with my magic, I could feel a massively heavy pressure on my shoulders as if I was carrying the city on my back, making me slightly hunch while struggling to maintain the spell active.
Still, now came the difficult part, which was gently lowering the city back down into the crater.
I raised one hand and started to move it down slowly, prompting the city to go down along with my movement. However, it was even harder than I expected.
My arms were shaking from the heavy pressure on them, and the veins in my forehead popped out as I grunted and struggled to lower the massive area.
My MP was depleting rapidly, and I wasn’t sure if it would last me until the city was safe on the ground, making me clench my teeth with anger.
Suddenly, I felt two hands placed upon my shoulders, followed by a surge of MP that flowed into my body.
When I turned around, I saw Sage Devon and Louie transferring their MP to me so that I could keep safely lowering the city.
Their energy was enough for me to stop trembling, but that didn’t mean that it was easy, as I still had to stay focused not to let go of the spell.
Lowering the Iron Capital back to its place didn’t take me more than eight minutes, but it felt like at least an hour for me.
As it finally reached the ground, it fit into the crater it left behind like a puzzle and generated a shockwave that raised the snow around the city.
*Gasp!* I took a deep breath as my entire body was sweating and trembling, and just when I was about to let myself plummet down to the ground, the two sages held me by the arms and took me to the roof of the castle.
