My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 414: The Calm Before the Storm
Chapter 414: The Calm Before the Storm
When I woke up three days after our battle with Drakzen in the north, I spoke with all of our allies, who brought me up to speed with the devils’ actions.
All of the countries around the world were preparing to go to war with G’Henna’s forces, which they had been arranging ever since the war in the north began.
It was thanks to Sage Astra that the countries were able to prepare so quickly. After her crystal ball showed a massive war that would be fought on obsidian grounds, she knew that the battle in the north wouldn’t be the end of the ordeal with the devils.
While Astra had no way of knowing where the war would take place since she couldn’t recognize the land in her vision of the future, she theorized that a new continent would appear sooner or later.
The closest countries to G’Henna were the Sephyr Kingdom, The Northern Empire, Kyotora, Guanghua, and Eldariel.
The countries on the eastern continent had gathered their forces on the coasts of Kyotora and Guanghua, even the troops of Balinesia and Vista, who were the furthest away from the devils’ continent.
On the coasts of the Sephyr Kingdom, the armies of the Droman Empire, Aridonia, and Kalusia gathered there to travel to G’Henna as a massive group.
The only country that was lacking in its defenses was the Northern Empire, which made sense as we had just finished a war. Still, the Vikings from the north were eager to go to battle.
After catching up with everyone’s activities, Melina and I returned to End Town using the magic quartz—and, of course, our companions went back with us.
When we arrived, a few of the villagers approached us to greet us, as it had been some time since we were there.
The entire world was aware of the events that happened in the north after Sage Louie made a worldwide broadcast of the war, so the people at End Town were sympathetic to us.
After speaking to the villagers and making sure that the town was running smoothly, we visited Triana, who had been working as the mayor after Jackson.
Triana Sephyr was the woman who possessed the "True Color Eye," which allowed her to know a person’s intentions by simply glancing at them.
Thanks to her, I knew that I could trust devils like Jackson and Nessa, as whenever Triana saw them, she didn’t spot anything evil coming from them.
Later that night, after Melina and I had dinner at our home with the rest of our companions, we lay on the bed, and I placed Fuego’s dragon egg between us.
Vespera told me that the egg had glowed a few times while I was asleep for the three days after the battle in the north. However, it hadn’t glowed a single time after I woke up.
Honestly, I always wondered why the dragon decided to make me the guardian of his egg.
Fuego wasn’t very talkative, and he clearly had a reason for wanting me to keep his egg safe. Still, he never went into details about it.
Even when I tried asking Arashi and Frost, who were their siblings, they were also clueless as to what their brother was planning.
That night, Melina and I were facing each other on top of the bed, with the dragon egg between us.
I had my hand placed on top of it, and I couldn’t help feeling a bit sad about Fuego’s demise.
Suddenly, I feel the warm touch of Melina’s hand, interlocking her fingers with mine. Her expression was serene and compassionate, and her loose hair looked like silk under the moonlight entering from the window.
"Ichi... After the war, promise we will travel the world like we used to..." Melina muttered.
"That sounds nice..." I replied with a slight smile.
"You know? I never apologized..." she said.
"Apologize? For what?"
"For leaving you alone back then..." Melina replied, biting her lips with apprehension.
"Mel, that was not your fault."
"I-I know... But there were so many more things I wanted to do with you back then, and it all felt like it was cut short," she said, a small tear forming in her eye.
"I wanted to keep traveling with you, have children, grow old together in a house by the beach..." she continued, listing all the things we never got to do.
As she kept talking, I squeezed her hand a bit tighter, prompting her to stop and gaze back at me.
"Mel, we are here now, and we got all the time in the world..." I said with a calm tone, but I couldn’t contain myself from smiling at my wife.
"Ah, and we are going to need to get married again. I’m sure this time will be a huge celebration," I continued, letting out a small chuckle.
In our past lives, our marriage was a very small event where only Melina’s parents showed up. However, knowing that she was now a princess, I was sure that the ceremony would be entirely different from the last time.
Melina giggled at the idea of the entire Sephyr Kingdom celebrating our marriage, and as we shared a laugh, we heard a ’crack’ that startled us and made us shut up.
Both of our hands were locked on top of the dragon’s egg, and when we felt a small fissure appearing between our hands, we sat up on the bed and stared at the egg with expectant expressions.
"Is it hatching?" I asked.
"I... Think so?" Melina replied.
We had never had a child or a baby chicken, so we were utterly clueless when it came to this type of situation.
*Crack!* The fracture on the egg stretched as it kept slowly breaking.
As the two of us got our faces closer to the egg, we saw a tiny lizard tail breaking the eggshell from the inside.
When the baby dragon’s face peeked out of the egg, he let out a cute growl and extended his tiny wings, shattering the rest of the shell.
The baby dragon had the same obsidian skin as Fuego—in fact, he looked exactly like a miniature version of the Lava Dragon.
I placed my hands down with my palms open, prompting the little dragon to hop on top of it and climb up to my shoulder.
"He is so cute!" Melina exclaimed, her eyes shining with excitement.
Right when the baby dragon heard Melina praising him, he jumped down from my shoulder and glided on top of the bed, landing right in front of my wife, who lovingly patted the dragon on the head.
"Should I give him a name?" I pondered.
"Of course!" Melina replied, still petting the dragon. freeweɓnøvel.com
I could sense the mana flowing from the baby dragon was very similar to Fuego’s, so I assumed that the baby would be a Lava Dragon like his predecessor.
"How about... Ummm... Ovi!" Melina said.
"Ovi? Isn’t that too short?" I pondered.
Still, when we glanced at the baby dragon, his body glowed momentarily, and we could tell that he had accepted the name Ovi.
*Pfft* "Ahahah..." I chuckled, slightly confusing Melina and the baby dragon.
We were preparing for one of the biggest wars this world had ever seen. But even so, having such a peaceful moment with my wife and Ovi felt relieving.
’The calm before the storm... Is that what they call this feeling?’ I wondered.
