Chapter 422: G’Henna’s Environment

After Melina and I moved the giant wave with our ships riding on top of it, we managed to get them in the water inside the wall.

The water level rose quite a bit from our entrance, so many of the small islands were completely flooded. Still, this allowed us to keep advancing toward the mainland without having to maneuver around them.

The shores of the obsidian island were empty, without a single devil in sight. Jackson was with us, and he was able to detect demons much more effectively than us.

When he said that the coast was clear, we began to disembark and build a resting area for the soldiers, using magic to put up a few structures and a wall around us to protect us from any scouting devil.

Honestly, we had been doing this for so long that the entire camp was built in less than thirty minutes, and we had actual buildings for the soldiers to sleep, eat, and go to the bathroom without relying on weak tents.

During that time, we could still hear the sounds of the battle between the World Titan and the Primal Demon, their colossal bodies visible in the distance as they exchanged blows in the middle of the ocean.

Right as I finished my part on the building, I received a message on my voice crystal from Sage Astra, who was still with the ships outside G’Henna’s wall, on the opposite side of the small continent.

The sage quickly explained her plan to me, and I thought it was quite clever. She wanted me to put up a magic quartz at the resting area, which had been attuned to another crystal she possessed.

Doing that would allow many of the soldiers to teleport from their ships directly to our location on the mainland. However, they also couldn’t leave all those boats alone.

The devils would know where our army was located since there was only a single direction we could use to enter the continent. Sage Astra’s plan was to teleport half of the soldiers on her side to our location for support and use the other half to make a surprise attack on the devils.

["The devils won’t expect any soldiers to come in from this side, so we should expect them to send all their forces your way... This could give us a backdoor,"] Sage Astra explained in the message.

I thought that her idea was pretty good, and after setting up the magic quartz, groups of between 4 and 5 soldiers started to arrive every twenty seconds. Thankfully, the area we built was large enough to accommodate everyone.

It was still daytime when we got there, and even though some soldiers wanted to keep advancing that same day, I thought it was strange how empty the whole coast felt, so it didn’t feel right to have the army advance.

"Vespera, Yoru... Let’s scout the whole coast and see if we can find anything," I said to my companions.

"Athena, you stay here and protect this place," I continued, talking to momma infernal bear, who was lying down next to the fire.

"Should I go as well?" Gina interjected.

Gina had been helping the alchemists at End Forest for some time, as she was the most familiar with the forest surrounding the tree house. However, now that Reinar and Jeniffer had been living there for a few years, they didn’t require her guidance as much, so she joined the war group along with other battle-maids.

"Gina, if you are confident of your skills, you can go too," I said, not wanting to force her into scouting the devils’ territory.

Still, Gina nodded with determination and said that she could easily sneak around without being seen, so I trusted her and allowed her to go scouting.

Melina stayed at our improvised base, but she asked Frost and Arashi to take a look around from the skies and keep the perimeter safe, prompting the two dragons to turn into their true forms and fly upwards.

After I separated from my group to scout different areas near us, I found the solitude of the place was eerie.

It was as if I could tell that lots of people used to live there, but now it was wholly empty without any ruins of old buildings or traces of civilization, which made me wonder how much of it got destroyed underwater and how much of it was erased by the devils.

When I reached a small hill that separated the coast, I flew upwards to get a better view from above and noticed that the entire area before me was covered in corals and algae.

’Not a single tree? Well, I suppose a tree wouldn’t have survived underwater...’ I pondered.

The entire continent spent hundreds of years at the bottom of the ocean, so seeing marine life growing on it wasn’t really strange. Still, it was quite a unique sight for me, even in this magical world.

The surface was so flat that I could see the massive castle in the distance, slightly covered by fog, far away from our position.

Even if the devils decided to send some of their forces to the coast, it wouldn’t be that effective for them to be so far from the place they were trying to defend.

’Hmmm, moving all these people forward could take a few days...’ I thought.

Since we were already using the magic quartz to teleport soldiers to our location, I thought we could use them to get them closer to the castle as well. However, that could bring trouble if we got attacked while only a few soldiers had arrived, so we had to make sure that it was safe.

After flying a bit further and finding nothing of interest, I returned to our starting spot and met with my companions and Gina, who were just as lucky as me and didn’t find absolutely anything other than corals and algae.

’I suppose we can try advancing tomorrow...’ I pondered.
