Chapter 465: Melina Vs. Xalathas

After Melina used magic to simulate a small atomic bomb, thousands of the new demons that had just appeared in the world were wiped out in the blink of an eye.

Agares, the ancient demon who had been using the battle as entertainment, was nowhere to be seen after his body disintegrated from the explosion, prompting the enraged Melina to fix her gaze on the demon king.

More demons kept being summoned from the black thunders in the sky, produced by the severing of the link between Ichiro and the gem. However, the retreating soldiers were able to defend themselves against the monsters.

Xalathas was shocked after seeing the atomic magic destroying Agares, but he couldn’t study the attack for long as Arashi and Frost were pursuing him—and before he knew it, Melina joined the fight by shooting numerous lightning bolts from the tip of her finger.

Unleashing more of his power, Xalathas was surrounded by a large sphere of demonic energy that could burn anything it touched to a crisp, making Melina and her companions back away for a brief moment.

When the demon king waved his blade and shot out arched projectiles that sliced the space toward Melina, Arashi and Frost were startled, seeing that the princess did not move from her spot.

Not even Ichiro’s barrier could stop the space-slice, and the potency of the magic on each projectile was enough to sever a person’s body in half as if they were made of butter.

Nevertheless, with a stone-cold expression and eyes burning with rage, Melina raised her arm forward and placed Xalathas and the numerous air slashes directed at her in her field of vision.

"Is that how far your imagination goes...?" Melina muttered as she awaited the impact.

Xalathas heard her words, and the demon king understood that the sage was looking down on him, even when the space-slicing magic was considered one of the most intricate to reproduce.

"I’ll just slice everything before me..." Melina continued.

In the blink of an eye, a weapon materialized in Melina’s hands, and while it seemed she hadn’t moved a muscle, a massive horizontal slice appeared and split the incoming projectiles in half.

At that moment, Xalathas widened his eyes in shock.

The demon king had theorized that by having two sages chosen by the goddess, then their power would be split in two, which would make it easier for him to kill them individually.

With Ichiro out of the fight, Xalathas believed that the battle was coming to an end, thinking that getting rid of the remaining sage and their companions would be easier than killing Ichiro.

However, now that he was facing an indomitable power, he started to believe that they should have killed Melina first.

When Xalathas saw that the giant horizontal slice was about to hit him, he quickly avoided it and detailed the weapon in the princess’s hands.

Depending on the type of magic that was awakened by the sage, they could borrow weapons from Phelena’s Armory, and the demons were aware of this fact after seeing the two sages using them to kill the other demon generals.

Xalathas knew of the fire bow and the lightning spear. He even knew about Ichiro’s custom staff, which he used when awakening with gravity magic. Still, when he kept looking at Melina’s weapon, he could tell it was the most dangerous of all.

Holding the long pole with one hand, Melina carried a long-bladed scythe covered in a strange green flame.

The magical aura around her turned completely black, and her eyes went from light blue to neon green, which made her pupils the only visible feature of her face shrouded in the dark aura.

’Another magic that I can’t understand...!?’ Xalathas thought, unable to detect the type of magic that Melina was using.

The demon king sensed that the magic she was using felt familiar, but that same familiarity only raised Xalathas’ concerns, so he quickly began to scan his surroundings to look for Drakzen, expecting his collaboration.

Unfortunately for him, Drakzen had his plate full while fighting the enraged Vespera and Yoru, who didn’t give the demon a second to breathe.

"Sage Melina, was it?" Xalathas spoke up, receiving no response from the princess. Not even a nod.

"What type of magic is that!? Speak!" He continued, his tone sounding between a mix of commandment and fear.

Still, Melina didn’t reply and kept menacingly hovering in the air before him, clasping the scythe’s pole and slowly taking an offensive stance.

Xalathas quickly prepared himself to avoid or defend himself against anything that came his way. However, Melina stayed in her position for a few seconds without waving the weapon.

*Vwomm, SLASH!* The demon king heard a strange buzzing sound before feeling his arm getting ripped apart.

He didn’t understand what was happening. Melina hadn’t moved from her position, but he had somehow lost his right arm without noticing.

It wasn’t that big of a deal for a demon that powerful to lose a limb or two since they could heal them pretty quickly, but when he grabbed his severed arm and tried to put it back in its place, the same green flames from Melina’s scythe appeared on the wound, preventing him from healing.

"This is..." Xalathas muttered, his eyes widened in shock.

"It’s death magic..." Melina replied, utterly emotionless, with tears still running down her cheek.

Gritting his teeth and unleashing every single drop of his power, Xalathas suddenly turned into a massive monster made of shadows in a desperate attempt to kill Melina.

Even though Melina had already used death magic to attack, it was her first time waving the scythe since she summoned it.

After waving the long blade vertically over her head, the image of a skull covered in green flames and black smoke appeared in everyone’s eyes, making the giant shadow form of Xalathas dissipate into thin air.

Xalathas’ chest had been sliced and blown open, showcasing his beating heart surrounded by green flames that prevented him from healing.

Melina understood that destroying the heart would kill the demon king, and a second before she could follow up her attack, she sensed a powerful projectile flying towards her from behind.

However, it was all a diversion, and when she turned her head back, she spotted Drakzen standing right next to Xalathas with the most evil grin he had ever shown.
