Chapter 34: 3000 coins worth.

’Dammit.’

Jayhan had his head behind his back, ready to launch an attack before Jacob could pull the trigger.

But to his surprise, Kara had chosen to act first.

With inhuman speed, she charged forward, whooshing past Jayhan with the hilt of her blade clutched tightly in her hand.

Her eyes locked on her target.

Jacob, seeing the bold woman charging toward him, switched his attention and aimed at her.

Just as he was about to shoot—

Slash!

It was fast and swift.

Kara sliced his hand off.

Everyone watched as the man’s severed hand, still gripping the pistol, fell to the ground.

Kara slashed her blade to the side as she stood upright, the blood staining the ground.

"Don’t aim your gun at him ever again. Next time, it’s your head."

Finally, the reaction everyone was waiting for came through.

"Ahhhhhh! My hand!"

The man screamed his heart out, eyes filled with pain and rage.

Falling to the ground, he could only hold his wrist, praying he didn’t bleed to death.

Others who watched were horrified.

{You assisted your master.}

{You have received 1000 coins.}

Kara smiled and then turned around to look at Jayhan.

She gestured, asking if she should finish him off.

Jayhan shook his head; he knew what would follow if one were to murder in a safe zone.

After she got her response, she slammed the blunt side of her blade on Jacob’s head and then walked away.

Standing beside her boyfriend, she placed one hand on his shoulder.

It wasn’t long before three individuals from the crowd came forward to help Jacob—his group members.

’I expected them to come out earlier. I guess they know better than to get in trouble for being a scumbag.’

Jayhan gave them a dirty stare.

Until—

"Are you going to sell the map? If so, for how much?" fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

Someone from the assembly voiced out.

Jayhan turned his attention to them.

"Yes, it’s for sale, and I have only seven copies."

"I’ll take one! Any amount you want!"

Another person yelled, his eyes hitched with desperation.

From how he was dressed, it was obvious he was very wealthy.

Someone else leaped in, striding out of the crowd.

"One million dollars! I’m offering one million dollars for one map!"

"No, five million dollars!"

"Five point five million dollars!"

"Six million!"

The bidding went on for a while, some even offering up their bodies, others willing to pay more than one hundred million dollars for a chance to get hold of the map.

Jayhan had proved himself to be legit, so they knew it was a huge opportunity to get their hands on such material. It was a must before anyone else did.

’These people sure are rich, calling such prices without having heart attacks.’

While it seemed impressive, alas, real money no longer had any value in this world.

Most already knew this but still found it hard to accept that fact.

This was no longer the earth they thought they knew.

Amidst their loud murmurs, trying to beat each other down with words, Jayhan uttered, "Three thousand coins."

A collective silence occurred.

"I am willing to sell a single map for the price of three thousand coins."

A man wearing glasses decided to speak up.

"Didn’t the taskmaster guy say running out of coins means death?"

"True, he did say that. But I assure you, every single one of you here has at least eight thousand coins in total, that is, if you have not yet used a green zone."

No one said anything, and Jayhan continued.

"The first task we completed, we were all given five thousand coins, and next, three thousand coins, making a total of eight thousand coins. Three thousand from that will leave you five thousand coins back; no one will be out of coins."

"But why won’t you take real money instead?" a short man asked.

"Real money doesn’t mean shit in this world. Coins do. The sooner you grasp that, the better."

As if already knowing this, a woman dressed in a pink jogger approached Jayhan and stretched her hand out for a shake.

"My group already contributed. I’ll take one map."

Jayhan looked toward the far distance, and he could see the group she was talking about.

They didn’t look all that impressive, but they had to be smart to have spoken amongst themselves so fast.

"Nice doing business with you."

Jayhan shook her hand.

The small glowing screen appeared before them.

{Three thousand coins have been debited.}

{Three thousand coins have been credited.}

As soon as that was done, Jayhan handed her the map and watched her walk away.

What he already expected began to play before his eyes.

People began to surround the girl, begging her to let them see what was inside.

In normal circumstances, they could have each contributed and bought a single map and then made copies of it.

But the only problem with that was, as much as people love themselves, they love being on top even more.

Those who now had the map knew they were several steps above those who didn’t.

The girl was soon protected by her group, who pushed away anyone who dared to ask or come closer.

While that was happening, Eric, with his face still swollen, stepped forward to also buy the map.

Though he was embarrassed, he still found the courage to act.

Jayhan held no malice toward him and so didn’t hesitate to sell it.

More and more people began to show up, doing the same thing the first group did.

Before Jayhan knew it, he had sold all seven copies of the map and had made a total of twenty-one thousand coins from it.

Adding that to his previous coins, Jayhan would have a total of thirty-eight thousand coins.

A smile lit up on his face.

’Good, everything is going well. I’ll need as many coins as possible once we step out of the plaza.’

As he turned around to have a seat on the mat, he noticed everyone had their eyes on him, judgmental.

"What is it?" he asked innocently.

Then Seo replied, "I didn’t take you for the kind to do mass extortion."
