"Your sister here has decided to take your place in the Hamilton family. She wants to be married to Alanis Hamilton." Frank began.
Harlow couldn’t believe her father would bring up such news, 24 hours after she signed the divorce papers. Even if she didn’t want Alanis anymore, it was absurd for her sister to demand to be married to him.
Who does that?
Claudia was so desperate to be with Alanis that she couldn’t even honor their divorce for even a day before showing off her distress.
Harlow was quiet for a few moments, she didn’t understand the sting she felt in her heart. The betrayal and backstabbing from her previous life came crashing at her.
"Harlow tell us, did anything really happen at the Hamilton’s mansion that caused you to have a change of heart all of a sudden? Help your sister, she would need it entering that family." Elisa was the one to ask.
When her daughter had brought up the suggestion of marrying into the Hamilton family this morning, Elisa had shunned the idea immediately.
"Mum please consider it. I’ve been in love with Alanis before Harlow even met him." Claudia pleaded.
"Why should I let my daughter marry a man her sister dumped? Do you know what people would say about that?" Elisa asked. She would never allow that. Even if Claudia and Alanis had been in love and even dated in their high school days, people didn’t know about that. Plus Claudia is a public figure, so the news would skyrocket into something else.
People would mock her for accepting her sister’s disposal. She would never let such shame come upon her family.
"That’s all you care about, what others would say rather than how your daughter feels?" Claudia started.
"You know how much I love Alamos mother." She cried out.
"Fine, but whatever you face there, don’t blame it on me," Elisa said.
Now back to reality, "Of course she can have him, I’m done with that man. The Hamiltons will love Claudia, aren’t you besties with Garth Hamilton?" Elisa was taken aback by Harlow’s words. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
"W... What has my friendship with Garth had to do with anything." Elisa tched.
"I hope Claudia signs her inheritance away, just the same way you made me almost sign mine."
"You’re just jealous Alanis didn’t love you naturally but what you have." Claudia laughed.
"I and Alanis have been in love for the longest time. I don’t have to promise my inheritance to be married to him, Harlow. He didn’t marry you on his will, Daddy forced him to be married to you. I’m sure he’s the happiest man now that you left him." Sheocked so innocently and Harlow clenched her fist.
That’s what she regretts the most, being desperate for that man and forcing herself on him.
She has lived this life before, the Hamilton’s preferred Claudia over her. Even after being married to Alanis for five years, he still preferred Claudia over her.
"You’re right Claudia, what was I thinking? I stole your boyfriend and now I’m giving him back, you should be grateful for that. If this is all you called me for father, then I shall take my leave now." Harlow rose from the couch she sat on, but immediately a servant opened the door and walked in.
"Sir, Grandma Hamilton has arrived..." He said.
"Oh Grandma is here Mother, she’s here to take me home," Claudia said to her mother excitedly.
"Did you call her?" Elisa asked her husband who shook his head in denial. Harlow smiled.
In her past life, only Alanis’s Grandma loved both her and Alex, the old woman had even tried to defend her too, but they sent her away. Harlow wondered what she was here for, she wondered if the woman had come because she divorced Alanis.
"If no one invited her, then what is she doing here?" Claudia asked already feeling anxious.
"Maybe Garth already told her about our arrangement. Maybe she’s here to take you home like she did Harlow." Claudia smiled.
"Yes, she is."
"Tell her I’ll be with her shortly and also, send a word around, that the feast has been cancelled. There no need for a feast if one of my daughters is still going to be a daughter-in-law of the Hamilton family."
"I should go and get ready to impress my in-laws mother. I’ll show them what it’s like to marry the good daughter of the family." Claudia said excitedly and Harlow rolled her eyes.
But Sir she said she doesn’t want to spend a minute in here, she’s only here to take her daughter-in-law home." Claudia and Elisa exchanged smiles as they both stared at each other.
"Then this daughter-in-law should hurry up and change for her new family." She rose from where she stood and started at the door, on her way out, she used her shoulder to shove Harlow who was already on her way out too.
"Excited to be a mistress, just like your mother?" Harlow asked with a smirk. She just knows how to rile these women up because right now, Claudia stopped in her tracks and turned to meet her with a glare.
Despite her decision not to engage in any verbal exchanges, Harlow could not help but mess with the same people who had murdered her father in her previous life. Claudia and Elisa had a significant role in whatever had happened in her previous life, now she reflected. They had been at the forefront of everything while remaining hidden in the shadows.
As for the Hamilton’s, she would deal with them later.
"What did you say?"
"How can you be so disrespectful, Harlow?" Elisa said. Being called a mistress was one of her insecurities, and she would never stop being one. And this stupid girl has the audacity to remind her of her pain.
"Watch your words, Harlow," Claudia added.
"You should watch yours. An illegitimate daughter should not speak when the legitimate one is speaking. It’s just a normal society norm." Claudia was taken aback by her sister’s words. Never did she think Harlow would speak to her this way. She has always been the menace, the one to always poke and insult Harlow.
Harlow is the calm one who endured their bullshit all the time.
"That’s enough Harlow, you don’t speak to your sister that way. You’re both equally my daughters no matter what." Frank spoke this time. He loved his two daughters equally and would never love any less than the other, no matter how he got them.
"To you father, but a bastard can never be on the same level as a real daughter. She should always know her place." At her words, she walked away.
"Harlow...
"Harlow...
"This is what I’ve been telling you, Frank..." Harlow closed the door before the could hear Elisa’s complete complaint.
