Chapter 411: Relieved or Offended

Dani couldn’t help the tears running down her face as soon as she found herself facing their Queen. She felt embarrassed and ashamed for her actions since they would reflect on their Queen. After all, she had just messed things up, not to mention how she still couldn’t remember what exactly happened that night. When did she even pass out?

"I really don’t remember what happened last night," Dani sniffled. "I was so drunk back then... I mean, I remember I said something along the lines of what the Chancellor mentioned, but everything else is blurry to me. I’m not getting the whole picture of anything at all."

The Queen let out a resigned hum. "Get changed and grab something to eat. Let’s talk about all this after you’ve composed yourself." She then turned to Krisha and said, "Go and accompany Dani. I’m sure she’ll appreciate the help."

Krisha and Dani both walked outside and headed to Dani’s bedchamber where the servants had already prepared breakfast for her.

"So-"

"Let me change first..."

Dani cut Krisha off as she turned around, grabbing something to get dressed into. She still couldn’t remember a thing about last night, and it still puzzled her that she could recall that mischievous smile on Abel’s face a while ago. It was as if he was enjoying her embarrassment after they got caught sleeping in his bed.

"What was he even saying?" Dani mumbled to herself while she got dressed. "Why would we get married when nothing even happened?"

"Dani, hurry up," Krisha called out, snapping her back to reality. "Your breakfast will get cold if you take longer."

Shaking her head, Dani grabbed a dress that wasn’t Abel’s tunic before walking towards the table where Krisha was already sitting.

"Let me eat first before asking me questions," she started, seeing how Krisha was already itching to ask her questions. Not that she could even answer her friend since she herself couldn’t remember a thing in the first place. "Thank you..."

Sighing, Dani sat down and ate, with Krisha simply watching her with an amused look on her face. Then, once she was done eating some bread, Krisha started asking her questions.

"I’m sure you’re quite full enough to talk now, right?" Krisha began with an amused smirk. "So tell me, how did you end up in the Chancellor’s bedchamber? Why were you wearing his clothes? Did something happen between you two?"

Dani rolled her eyes. There was simply no escaping Krisha. Even though she wasn’t giving her any answer, her friend simply refused to stop bugging her.

"First of all, nothing happened between me and the Chancellor," she cleared up with a pout.

"Are you sure?" Krisha asked, looking at her intently.

"Of course, I’m sure! I know my body, and I’m still a virgin, alright?" Dani defended. "Everything’s still intact."

"Did you check your skin for some bites then? Hickeys? I mean something could’ve happened since you weren’t wearing your dress," Krisha pointed out. "Maybe you two just didn’t go all the way, no?"

Dani didn’t know what to do as Krisha quickly inspected her neck. She hadn’t checked herself for marks or anything earlier, and her face reddened at the thought that she and Abel had done something intimate without her even recalling a thing.

"I’m sure nothing happened," Dani firmly stated. "Give that thought a rest, Krisha."

"Alright then, but how did you end up in his bedchamber anyway?" Krisha asked, ignoring her protests. "You were supposed to meet up with Laura, not him."

"I... I used the Chancellor as an excuse to go out and asked him to have a drink where I was supposed to meet Laura," she casually answered.

"Was that even necessary when going out? It’s not like we’re forbidden to leave the palace..." Krisha reasoned. She then flashed her a teasing smile as she lengthily added, "You like him! I knew it! You often act as if you’re annoyed and suspicious of him, but in truth, you like the Chancellor! You should take your chance and proceed with the union like what the Queen Mother wanted. Your reputation has been tarnished already anyway. I’m sure that by now, the news between you and the Chancellor had already spread throughout all the corners of the palace."

Dani’s face reddened as she glared at Krisha. "Enough with the nonsense, Krisha. I just feel a bit guilty for manipulating him by using the thrall chaining spell against his will," she reasoned. "The least I can do is to offer him a drink. And besides, I also met Laura at the same place anyway."

"Well, either way, you two seem to make a good pair. On the contrary, you’ll also end up as a rebound for him, so I guess it’s my bad for teasing you to the Chancellor," Krisha candidly said with a shrug. "Still, we’re not even sure if he really loves Rosela. She’s dead anyway. For all we know, those two were just engaged in a casual sexual relationship."

Dani’s face soured despite herself. The thought of her being his rebound left her feeling wrong for some reason.

"But back to now, what really fascinates me is how you ended up in his tunic," Krisha questioned with a glint in her eyes.

"Oh please. Enough already with your lewd thoughts!" Dani complained with a dark expression on her face.

Despite her looks, Krisha simply laughed at her. "You’re lucky that Zaila isn’t here," she pointed out with a chuckle. "If she’s the one here, she would’ve already inspected every inch of your body to see if you have even the tiniest mark on your skin!"

"Ugh..." Dani sighed before letting off a shrug. "Look, I believe I no longer need your assistance and comfort, Krisha, so please leave me alone and let me organize my thoughts. Maybe then I’ll be able to recall what happened last night."

Krisha only chuckled as she got up from her chair and said, "Fine. I’ll be leaving you now, but make sure to update me as soon as you recall something."

Dani felt the edges of her lips twitch even as Krisha finally walked towards the door. As soon as her friend was gone, she immediately got up and stripped herself in her changing area near her full body mirror to see if there were any marks on her skin...

Her eyes narrowed as she looked at the sides of her thighs. "Ah, I must be nuts," she murmured followed by a sigh of relief. Then, something dawned on her as she annoyingly scoffed, "Seriously, nothing happened? Not even a hug or kiss? Did he not find me attractive at all?"

She didn’t know if she would feel relieved or offended at that thought!
