Chapter 414: Attraction

Days passed by in a blink of an eye, and Dani gradually resumed her normal routines as she helped the Queen along with Krisha and Zaila in her daily duties.

"Did you already inform your family?" Krisha asked her as they both walked down the hallway. She was currently on her way to help the Queen get ready to pick up her sister, Princess Xenia by the main port of Valcrez. Today was a special day for their Queen precisely because of her sister’s sudden visit with King Darius of Cordon to their kingdom.

"Not yet, I’ll think about it later," Dani replied with a sigh. "It’s not like I’m in a hurry to settle down anyway."

"But the Queen Mother thinks otherwise. Do you think your family will accept the Chancellor, especially Lord Atlas?" Krisha asked her. "He doesn’t like vampires nor other beings aside from humans, right"

Dani let off another deep sigh at those words. She really didn’t want to think about those things yet, but it was inevitable that she would have to do so. Her family would go haywire if they found out about Abel. She would need some time to discuss this matter with her family. Besides, it wasn’t like she and Abel needed to hit a specific time for their union to happen, so surely there would be enough time for her to arrange everything properly, especially on her family’s side.

"I’ll just cross that bridge when I get there," Dani shrugged.

"Good luck to you then," Krisha chuckled. "Anyway, I’ll be off to make sure the carriage is ready."

Dani nodded, and she turned around to quickly make her way to their Queen’s bedchamber.

"The meeting has already finished," Dani informed her queen with a smile the moment she arrived. "The King is now currently on his way here, milady..."

Queen Mineah nodded as she watched her own reflection in the mirror. "Thank you."

"Let me put your crown on now, milady," Dani quickly offered.

At that, Queen Mineah sat up straight and stared at her reflection in the mirror. "I’m so excited to be with my sister, Dani," she hummed.

Dani smiled at her liege. She looked so radiant, and her eyes brimmed with excitement to be united with her sister.

"I’m so happy for you, milady," Dani commented as she fixed the crown on the other woman’s head. "There, you look so elegant, yet mysterious, milady," she added with a smile. Combined with a filigree of gold and diamonds, the vulture symbol of Valcrez was displayed up front and center, as was the custom for the Kingdom of Valcrez.

For a while, they both stared at each other, and Queen Mineah looked closely at Dani, to which the latter asked, "What is it, milady?"

"Are you really sure that you’re going to agree to be the Chancellor’s wife?" she asked.

Dani chuckled. It wasn’t the first time the Queen had asked that question. "You’ve already asked me the same question, milady," she teased. "I almost feel like I’ve already lost count of it all."

"I’m just worried. I want to make sure that you know what you’re getting into," the Queen murmured. "Like I said, I’ll support whatever your decision may be, Dani. But for some reason, I couldn’t help but feel uneasy..."

"Hmm... You said before that you hope to see us having our own families. After carefully thinking about it, the Chancellor is actually a good catch." Dani pointed out with a shrug. "I do believe that I’m fortunate enough to have a man like him, milady. He’s someone close to His Majesty, and..."

"And he’s someone in love and is currently in a secret relationship with Rosela," Queen Mineah continued, cutting Dani off midway.

"Yes, but Rosela’s already gone," Dani murmured. "And honestly, I pity him..."

The queen’s brow furrowed. "Pitying someone is different from liking them as a person. But then again, as someone who married for an alliance, I guess I have no right to judge or even have a say on this," she shrugged. "Either way, just know that I’m always here for you, Dani. If you want to back out, you still have time. I will support you regardless."

"I know, milady," Dani chuckled. "Don’t worry, you’ll be the first to know if I’ll ever need anything or change my mind."

"Alright then," Mineah hummed as she looked at herself in the mirror and stood up. "Let’s go."

Dani nodded as she followed behind her Queen, and they were about to leave the room when the King suddenly arrived. Standing aside, she smiled as she watched King Nikolai publicly display his affection for their Queen. It was a sight to behold, and deep inside, she also had a desire to experience something like that... of being in love and for that love to be reciprocated right back.

Mentally sighing, she shook her head as she quietly followed her monarchs. It was currently broad daylight, and yet here she was daydreaming when in reality, she was simply in agreement with her future husband. She wasn’t dumb. She knew that her agreement with Abel was risky. And yet, she still chose to compromise... and she could only hope that it would all be worth it.

Dani was someone who wouldn’t make a decision that she couldn’t take responsibility for. She accepted Abel’s proposition because she saw the advantage it gave her. Besides, the majority of the reason why she agreed was because she could no longer deny the fact that she was interested in Abel, and she was curious to know where the feelings she was developing towards him would lead her to.

Again, she was physically attracted to the man, and that had never happened to her before. Abel was the first man she truly appreciated aside from Prince Ezekiel, but there was still a difference since she only adored Prince Ezekiel and never felt what she was feeling for him as opposed to whenever she was with Abel. It was confusing. It was as if there was this magnet that kept pulling her to him even though she was vexed and annoyed at him most of the time.

So after careful consideration, it was safe to say that it could be that attraction that kept pulling her to him even though she denied it at first.
