The Crown's Seduction-Chapter 424: A Monster
Chapter 424: A Monster
Abel couldn’t believe that Dani had just run off like that and left him to deal with her brother alone like this. But then again, what should he expect when she did the same thing to her parents before this? He was pretty sure that by now, Dani was enjoying another good night’s sleep, while here he was facing what was probably the gloomiest man on earth.
"I hear you met our parents?" Atlas started as he poured him some alcohol.
"I did, and I’m glad to finally meet Dani’s brother at last," Abel remarked. "She spoke highly of you."
It was true that Dani spoke highly of her brother. She was very proud of him, and she would often remind him of how her brother would kill him since he disliked their kind. Not just vampires too, but even other creatures as well aside from humans.
"We treasure Dani, and we’ll not allow just anyone to hurt her and take advantage of her," Atlas firmly stated with his stern gaze. "It seems like you easily got our parent’s approval, but that wouldn’t be the case for me. I’ll have my eye on you, Chancellor."
"I’ll consider your words as a reminder then, Lord Atlas. Although, I strongly believe it won’t even be necessary," Abel seriously replied. "Like I told your parents, my intentions are pure and genuine when it comes to Dani becoming my wife. I will honor her, and we’ll spend the rest of our lives together, I’m sure."
"Hah! My sister is human," Atlas pointed out with a scoff. "And you? You won’t die unless you get killed."
"I can turn your sister if she asks me to," Abel retorted. "But if she doesn’t, then I’ll stay with her till the rest of her life."
"You’ll stay with her even if she becomes old and wrinkled?" Atlas questioned.
"Yes. She’s my wife, Atlas. What do you want to hear? It’s not like I can turn myself back into being a human now," Abel clarified with a heavy tone. "Do you expect me to kill myself and die with her? You do know that I will burn in hell if I take my own life, and Dani wouldn’t want that either for me. We don’t know yet what she would want, but I would love her to stay with me for eternity and to do that she’ll have to become a vampire like me. However, rest assured that I will never force her to do anything against her will, Atlas."
By that time, he started addressing Dani’s brother casually by his name since he was way older than him anyway. He knew what Atlas was doing. He was trying to intimidate him, but Abel wasn’t letting the man do as he pleased.
Still, he knew well where the man was coming from. After all, there were a lot of creatures in this world, not just vampires, who thought of themselves as superior to humans. He and Nikolai had witnessed it before while the latter was doing his campaign outside Valcrez. The latter was also doing them to prevent other vampires from spreading their wickedness outside their kingdom. However, the campaign was a struggle since not all neighboring kingdoms were cooperating with their efforts. In the end, it all became too political, with many prioritizing what was beneficial to their own greed instead of actually helping.
Still, with a dark face, Atlas probed, "Did you drink from her?"
"No," Abel answered.
"Not yet," Atlas hissed. "But aren’t you planning to drink her blood in the future?"
Abel pondered on his answer. He didn’t want to lie about this because he definitely wanted to taste Dani’s blood, but not to the point of feeding on her.
"Just a taste," he plainly muttered.
"Monster," Atlas accused.
"You do know that I’ll need to mark her to seal our marriage in accordance with Valcrez’s laws," Abel pointed out. "That way, no vampire will dare touch her. Upon marking her, that will be enough for me to have a taste of her blood. Don’t worry, I won’t feed on her."
’Do you need help there?’
Abel frowned as he looked past Atlas and saw Ezme not far from them. She had just sent a telepathic word to him, asking as if she could even help.
’What’s with you and this Great Constable?’ he asked back, but seeing Ezme’s devious grin was more than enough for him to answer his own question.
’He’s my man, Abel,’ Ezme cooed. ’I can handle him, so just tell me if you need to rest already.’
’Why do I have a feeling that you’re not here to extend help anyway?’ Abel mentally rolled his eyes in reply. ’It sounds like you’re the only one who deliberately wants to be with him right now.’
"Don’t feed on my sister, and don’t make her like you!" Atlas threatened him, making Abel turn his attention back to the conversation in front of him. "I don’t want her to turn into a monster who drinks human blood. And don’t you dare hurt her. If you do, I can easily take your head from your body!"
Abel gave Ezme a pitiful look and as he telepathically relayed, ’Are you sure you can handle him? Looks to me that he dislikes our kind very much. Good luck to you with this man, Ezme.’
’I’ll take that as you allowing me to intervene,’ Ezme snorted, ignoring his words. ’You look like you’re already uncomfortable. Here I come then.’
Abel could only wonder if Nikolai was aware of what was going on with his sister right now. Still, he had no intentions of meddling in royal affairs. After all, he already had a lot on his plate to take care of.
"Chancellor!" Ezme exclaimed, catching Abel off guard as she hugged him tightly. "I heard you finally arrived! And with your fiance on top of that. How nice of you to finally dodge my mother into having you marry me!"
She then turned her attention to Atlas and explained, "You see, Chancellor Abel here has been eyed by my mother to be my future husband. But I’m glad that Abel finally found a woman he likes." She turned back to Abel and asked, "Why are you still here? I heard you traveled here in your mist form with Lady Dani, so you should be resting by now since you’re just a curb. Go now. I have your tent ready."
Abel shook his head at Ezme’s antics but was grateful still as he turned to Atlas. "I’ll excuse myself for now then, Lord Atlas. I’ll see you again tomorrow."
Without another word, he quickly walked away and smiled at the thought of checking up on Dani.
