Chapter 431: Her Story

"Let us escort you to where you’ll be staying," Dani started with a courteous smile as they walked her to her assigned bedchamber. "Everything you’ll need will be in here for now. You won’t be allowed to go out from this secret wing unless the King says so, and we’ll be checking you first since you came with Zoran, a man wanted in this kingdom for colluding with the Demon King Devon."

The sun was already rising, so she signaled for Zaila to begin checking Dahlia for any traces of dark magic. Thankfully, Dahlia was being cooperative as Krisha left to get breakfast from the servants. Meanwhile, Dani stayed as she quietly watched Zaila do her work.

Soon, Krisha returned with a trolley of food for their guest and Dani helped her friend by placing them on the table near the balcony. They would be joining Dahlia for breakfast so that they could ask her about what happened to her since that day when everyone thought she died. They would then also tell her about the current situation in Valcrez since she had been gone for almost twenty-one years at that point.

"She looks kind compared to her twin," Krisha whispered to her in her low voice using their secret language as they both sat on the chairs by the table. Zaila was almost done checking Dahlia by that point. "Do you think we’ll have a problem with her?"

"I don’t know, Krisha," Dani replied with a shrug. "We just need to observe her some more."

In truth, she didn’t really care. What honestly bothered her was Abel. She couldn’t help but feel a bit worried. What if Abel saw Rosela in Dahlia? She seemed to be a better person, and seeing her face might rekindle something in Abel.

"I don’t think the king is still in love with her. I mean, he didn’t even spare her a glance before he disappeared. He’s that much in a hurry to leave and follow our queen," Krisha pointed out. "So we shouldn’t worry about things. And stop ogling her."

Dani bit her inner cheek. Krisha knew that she was worried, but it was more for Abel instead of for the king.

Not letting her friend find out what truly worried her, she spoke, "Let’s just tell her everything about what’s going on. She needs to know about our king and queen and how they’re inseparable now. If she’s truly unlike Rosela, then she’ll respect their relationship and not get in their way or do something to create chaos between them."

"Right, we should do that as soon as Zaila clears her of any dark magic then," Krisha agreed with a nod.

"Is that an Ebodian language?" Dahlia suddenly asked them.

"Sort of, Lady Dahlia," Krisha quickly answered with an awkward smile. "We apologize if we’re talking like this in front of you. Just please understand that we’re just careful around you because you’re technically still under observation."

"I understand. Don’t worry. I’ll comply with what’s needed to make sure and prove that I’m not a threat to this kingdom that I still call my home," Dahlia replied with a bright smile. "I mean no harm to anyone, especially to our king. Also, it would be nice if I could interact with my family and everyone that I used to be close to soon like Lord Abel who is our family’s benefactor."

Dani felt a lump get stuck in her throat upon hearing Abel’s name being mentioned.

"She’s clear from dark magic," Zaila announced.

Dani quickly nodded, "Come. Let’s have breakfast together," she stated. "We have a lot to discuss."

Zaila nodded back before then ushering Dahlia onto a vacant seat facing Dani.

"Right, Chancellor Abel is the benefactor of the Benett Family," Krisha remarked as soon as Dahlia was seated. "You’ll be meeting him soon."

"Chancellor?" Dahlia asked in surprise. "Abel is a Chancellor now?!"

Dani frowned. She didn’t like how casually Dahlia was addressing Abel.

"Right, he’s a Chancellor of this kingdom now, so you should address him accordingly," Dani coldly replied, ignoring the teasing grin Zaila and Krisha threw at her.

"Oh, I understand. My apologies, I’m just surprised, but I’m glad to hear such good news. Abe... I mean Lord Abel is a very hardworking man, and he deserves that high position!" Dahlia excitedly yelled. "I can’t wait to see and congratulate him now. Since when has he been appointed as the new Chancellor?"

"After you died," Dani shrugged, to which Krisha hit her with an elbow. As such, she cleared her throat and clarified, "I mean, after everyone thought you were dead, Lady Dahlia. You see, just a few days had passed when you died before the dragon souls attacked with the most powerful ones choosing Valcrez to try and merge their souls to the immortals here. Unfortunately, the previous Chancellor, along with King Arturo and a few more died because of that. The rest of the officers that remained chose Abel to be the new chancellor based on his performance as the previous secretary of the late Chancellor."

"Oh, right. I used to tease him about being married to work," Dahlia hummed with a wide smile. "He deserved that position."

Seeing Dahlia smile, Dani couldn’t help but admit to the fact that the woman was beautiful. Never in her life had she ever felt insecure before now. Dahlia was the epitome of grace and beauty, while she... She was always considered to be one of the boys to the point that her parents would often have a headache with how often she skipped the boring classes on how to be a noble and graceful woman. Well, she wasn’t alone then since Laura was often with her, not to mention Princess Xenia who topped them all when it came to skipping boring classes.

"Dani, are you zoning out?" Zaila asked as she waved a hand over her face.

"Oh, I’m sorry," she quickly replied before looking back to Dahlia. "Anyway, please tell us what exactly happened to you. We would appreciate it if you gave us the whole details, especially since it will all be reported to our King and Queen."

Dahlia nodded. "Alright, I’ll tell you everything I remember."

Dani nodded as she stared at Dahlia intently while listening to her story.
