Chapter 432: Greatest Meal

"She did it. Princess Xenia won and was crowned as the new Queen of Cordon!" Dani burst out in front of Krisha and Zaila after receiving the good news from their queen through her pet raven Nik.

The news of Princess Xenia’s victory spread like wildfire throughout the kingdom, and the revelation that Queen Mineah was also half human and half angel like her sister added a layer of fascination and awe to her story. Her divine bloodline suddenly became a topic of great interest, and the perception of her among the people suddenly started to shift.

Her true heritage ignited a whirlwind of conversations and discussions among the citizens of Valcrez that was already abuzz with excitement and curiosity, and those who had previously underestimated Queen Mineah now found themselves reassessing their opinions. The revelation of her angelic lineage brought a sense of reverence, and people began to view her with newfound respect.

In the royal court of Valcrez, whispers and discussions filled the air as nobles and courtiers contemplated the implications of having a queen with such a unique and celestial ancestry. Some saw it as a sign of favor from the divine, while others were simply fascinated by the mystical nature of her heritage.

Back with Dani and the rest, they continued with their duties as usual, but Dani found herself yawning every once in a while for some reason.

"Why don’t you go and rest early?" Krisha told her. "I’ll take over for you on this."

"Are you sure?" Dani asked. She was really sleepy, so she didn’t hesitate to accept Krisha’s offer.

"I’m sure, so go. But don’t forget to grab something to eat first," Krisha told her with a smile. "Or maybe just ask a servant to bring something to your chamber for you to eat when you wake up."

Dani simply nodded as she quickly made her way back to her bedchamber. Once she arrived, she was about to open her door when she stopped herself from doing so.

’I wonder if he’s inside...’

It was a valid thought. She hadn’t seen Abel today since he was busy taking over the court meetings she didn’t participate in since the king tasked the Queen Mother to take charge on behalf of the Queen. Instead, she was mostly focused on taking care of the Queen’s office and other duties aside from the usual meetings.

While she hoped he wasn’t in her room again, deep inside, she was hoping that Abel was inside right now with meals that he prepared himself and laid out on her table for her to eat. She honestly didn’t know why he was being so generous and caring to her, but she didn’t have the guts to ask him. She didn’t want to hear an answer she didn’t want to hear from him like him warming her up so that she could lift the spell she cast on him.

In the end, she shrugged in resignation and decided to open the door. Instantly, she smelled a luscious aroma coming from inside her bedchamber, and a beautiful smile carved itself onto her lips upon seeing Abel sitting on the chair while casually reading something.

"You’re a bit early," he remarked without looking at her. "I thought I was going to reheat your dinner."

"What if I already ate?" she asked as she walked towards the table.

"Well, I’m sure you haven’t yet," he pointed out while he casually burnt what he was reading in his hands. "I heard you often eat alone inside your bedchamber."

"You put a tail on me?" she asked with a frown.

Abel shrugged as he moved and started cutting meat on her plate. "I didn’t. I simply asked the servants what you were doing, Dani," he casually explained himself. "Come now. Just eat. We have something important to discuss after."

Dani pursed her lips as she tried hiding her disappointment for not having Abel simply give her a meal without having to discuss business on the side like what he did last night when they discussed about Dahlia and all the arrangements they had to make for her.

She felt her good mood vanish as she simply ate in silence, all while accepting everything Abel fed her. Taking the bowl of soup nearby, she took a sip of what she assumed was her favorite dish.

"How was it?" Abel asked her.

"It’s good," she answered. "Did you cook it all?" she asked despite already knowing the answer.

"I did. It’s one of your favorites, right? Abel replied with a wink. "Your mother made sure that I know all of them."

As she expected, that simple wink easily took away her bad mood.

"How about you, Abel?" she tentatively asked. She wanted to know more about him. "Is there a particular human dish that you like?"

"Well, I liked eating seafood while I was still a human," he replied. "I like crabs, oysters, and prawns. Those kinds of food."

"How about now then?" she pondered.

"Can I eat you?" he grinned.

His words almost made Dani choke on her meal. Quickly, Abel handed her some water to drink.

"Here," he chuckled.

Dani’s face reddened knowing how intensely Abel was staring at her. She frowned and looked him straight in the eyes and asked, "What is it that you want to discuss?"

"About Dahlia. How is she?" he curiously asked. "Did she tell you everything?"

Dani had to compose herself before telling him what Dahlia told them with a blank face.

"Zoran sacrificed a lot for her. Are you all sure that there’s no trace of black magic in her now?" he further asked. "It’s the tree of life under Devon’s caring that-"

"Are you doubting our capabilities? I can assure you that we checked her and found nothing!" she insisted. "The tree of life is still divine even if it’s inside Helion Kingdom. Dahlia had no encounter with Devon that we know of, and she told us that Zoran never left her side while she was under that tree. Zoran was protecting her. He sold himself to the devil just to make sure that she was saved."

"Alright, just calm down, Dani. Here are some grapes. It’s also from my backyard." he said with a grin. "You’re getting thinner lately, so I’ll try my best to feed you whenever I can, Dani. I want you in your greatest shape before our wedding."

"You sound like you’re preparing me to be your greatest meal for later," she scoffed with a twitch in her mouth.

"You have sharp thinking, don’t you?" Abel chuckled. "You read me so well."

"Stop messing around!" she scolded him with a blush on her face making Abel just chuckle even more.
