The Crown's Seduction-Chapter 439: Back to Her Senses
Chapter 439: Back to Her Senses
Dani had asked Abel how he got entangled with the Benett Family, so Abel promptly narrated everything to her, appreciating the fact that she was curious enough to find out more about him.
"Oh, that’s when Lord Fritz entered the picture, right?!" Dani asked with her sparkling eyes.
Abel inwardly frowned. He didn’t like the hint of excitement in Dani’s voice upon mentioning Fritz’s name. He had just told her about his meeting with the man who was known to all as his progenitor.
"Yes?" Abel snorted with a frown. "Why is your expression like that whenever you hear or mention Fritz anyway?"
"Well, I’ve heard so much about him, and I truly adore that man!" she beamed. "He’s the head of the Bureau of Astronomy, and I heard from Taro that he has superb skills in being a spy too. That’s why His Majesty always sends him on important and crucial missions!"
"Do you always believe what you hear?" he scoffed. "Last time I checked... He’s just a Scion who loves to wave a fan over himself."
"Oh, and that fan of his is lovely too!" Dani added, making his face sour. He didn’t like the sudden change of topic away from him and towards Fritz."Tell me, where did he purchase that fan?"
"It’s a gift from Exordium Vania, the Queen Mother’s twin," he coolly responded. "Anyway, I’m not interested in talking more about Fritz, Dani. If we’ll speak about him, then I would rather leave now to attend to more important matters."
Abel didn’t bother to hide his annoyance from her. He wanted to be transparent to her that he wouldn’t allow her to think of any man at all aside from him.
"What’s with your mood swings? Anyway, before you leave, remember to meet me later," Dani reminded him. "Our Seer will be arriving later, so be there so that she can look at you as well and see if she can find something from your past to help you find out about your true origins."
"I understand," Abel coldly answered. "I will be there."
Leaving, he sighed as he went back to his unfinished work. At night, when the sun was about to go down, Abel then proceeded to go to the meeting chamber in the secret wing of Corvus Palace where Dani told him to go. Upon arriving, he smiled once he saw that Dani was already there waiting for him outside.
"You’re here," Dani greeted him before guiding him to sit on the nearest bench with her. "It may take a while. They’re trying to get every single detail they can from the vision Seer Tarah saw."
"It must have been bad hearing how Dahlia’s crying," Abel remarked, having heard Dahlia’s whimpers outside.
"It looks like Dahlia fell in love with Zoran," Dani sighed. "She cares for him, and she wants to save him badly enough to beg for it."
"Zoran’s a good kid. He’s the quiet type; someone who doesn’t easily open up themselves to someone else," Abel shrugged. "I’m honestly surprised at how devoted he is to Dahlia to the point of not thinking about his own life. He tried killing Nikolai numerous times to avenge her death, and King Arturo was even about to kill him for that if not for Nikolai begging to spare Zoran’s life."
"I see. Zoran then left, but no one knew how he brought Dahlia’s body with him. All this time, he kept her body warm while looking for a solution to bring her back," Dani thought out loud.
"Yes... Who would’ve thought... I guess there are really miracles. He waited sixteen years looking after her under that tree of life." Abel seconded followed by a deep sigh. "That Tree of Life in Helion sure is something... I’ve long heard of it, but I never had the opportunity to see it. They called it that because it stands tall on top of a sand dune in the middle of the desert. No flora can be seen for miles around, and there’s not a drop of water to be found anywhere. And yet the wide-branched tree has survived for centuries. There are myths about it, and I guess Zoran took that chance and risked it all trying to bring back Dahlia..."
"And now, Dahlia doesn’t want Zoran to die just to save her again," Dani finished.
"I see," Abel muttered. "I guess that’s why she’s crying right now."
Dani nodded. That was all that there was to things at the moment.
"We can do a reading of my past some other time then, Dani," Abel chuckled with a smile. "I don’t think this is a good time to do it."
"But we’re not sure when we can ask Seer Tarah to come here again," Dani mumbled.
Abel chuckled as he pointed his index finger in between her eyebrows again. "I’m not in a rush, Dani," he smirked. "I’ve lived for three hundred years not knowing about my origins, so really... It’s not something that’s necessary in my life. I’m sure there will be another opportunity some time in the future."
Dani took the hint and stopped frowning as she decided to just cross her arms in wait instead. There was then a deafening silence between them as they both waited for the other to speak. ƒrēenovelkiss.com
"Aren’t you needed inside?" Abel asked, breaking the silence.
"I’m not. Krisha and Zaila are more than enough to jot down all the details we need." She then turned to him and asked, "Are you needed somewhere?"
Abel shook his head with a half smile before softly chuckling, making Dani frown again. "What’s so funny?"
"Oh, nothing. It’s just that I never thought I’d see myself lazing around like this," Abel wistfully replied. "For two hundred and sixty-seven years... All I did was work hard."
"Hmmm... So you became a vampire at the age of thirty-three," Dani pointed out after doing the math.
Abel smiled. "Vampires hate talking about their ages, you know."
"Obviously, you don’t," Dani scoffed.
Abel laughed, and Dani also laughed in response. Talking to her like this was refreshing, and he was glad that she was no longer pushing him towards Dahlia.
’Hopefully, she’s finally come back to her senses,’ he mused in content.
