While Scarlet slept, the others contacted their home planet and spoke to their loved ones. For the Su parents Dorian and Mega, it was such a relief to finally see one of their two missing children after so many weeks.

After a very brief greeting, Dorian immediately moved on to what his eyes were seeking.

"Where is my daughter? Do you know how much it has taken out of me not to get on a space ship and come looking for you?"

Mega pointed at Adler and added, "And why were you out of touch? We were starting to think that space pirates had captured you?"

"Or space ice had hit your vessel." Dorian included one of the worst case scenarios he had drawn up in his mind by the time week four came around and all was silent.

In a deep voice, Mega roughly said, "And wormholes, black holes, mutated beasts, anti-human...."

Adler put his hands over his face and he groaned loudly. His mother was on a mission to mention everything that was a danger to anyone in a spaceship that was travelling anywhere.

"Mother, you can see that I am fine, right? Scarlet is also fine in fact, look this is a picture of her that I took personally a couple of days ago."

He sent them the picture of Scarlet and Justin in the market on Vi-poral.

His mother’s gasp and the hand over her mouth immediately alerted him to something that he had missed. In the image Scarlet was pregnant__, heavily so.

"Oh crap!" he gasped and ended the call swiftly. Scarlet was going to kill him. He couldn’t even recall the image because his mother had already saved it.

She was probably sending it out to the others already. His terminal buzzed, and he ignored the request to accept a video call from his mother.

She called ten more times and when Adler wouldn’t pick, she resorted to calling Cecily. Unaware of why Mega was calling, Cecily who was on a video call with the empress and Justin answered.

"What is this? Is my daughter pregnant?" Mega strongly blurted out immediately.

Cecily nodded. Her assumption was that the picture had been sent by Scarlet.

Mega screamed loudly. She was so loud that Cecily and Justin covered their ears.

In addition to the scream, Mega started to babble on and on, jumping from one thing to another. "Really!! Finally. Oh the deities be praised. But how could she not tell me about this? I am an expert on natural pregnancies and births? Wait....wait, where is she? How is she? I need to speak to her."

"Mega, Mega, you need to breathe. Oh look, we are about to land on Xeno. I gotta go..." Cecily couldn’t take it and she ended the video call very quickly.

She was not the only one to be relieved by the loss of Mega’s voice, the empress was feeling the exact relief.

"Holy crap she can talk." the empress said.

Cecily nodded. Mega was not as talkative as principle Stash but when she was in panic or excited mode, she would spin out of control. And she would jump from one topic to another, barely giving you a chance to respond to one question before moving on to another.

"She is going to tell everybody, isn’t she?" Cecily asked the empress.

The empress was inclined to agree. "Definitely. Between her and Elroy, one of them will spill the beans."

Elroy was a pathological over sharer. If the family had good news, he would be the first to post about it online. He had earned himself many followers on star net because of this. Sharing pictures of his chest and biceps often also contributed to this fact. The empress vividly recalled hearing Scarlet calling her younger brother a walking thirst trap.

"The children are Wu’s. Perhaps this announcement should come from the royal family." Cecily suggested. "We don’t need anybody poking holes into the legitimacy of the pregnancy or the children."

"How could they?" the puzzled empress asked.

Cecily shrugged. "People are crazy. We have been gone for a while and one idiot could suggest that she wasn’t pregnant before she left and then it will become a scandal."

"But she was already pregnant before she left." The empress told Cecily. "Esong told us this himself." There was no doubt about when she got pregnant or who the father of the children was.

Cecily could understand but she also knew that there were those that lived to throw dirt on the royal family. There were corners on star net where Scarlet was not loved. In those corners, one small thing was all it took, to attempt to ruin her. So, in Cecily’s opinion, the earlier they shared the news, the better.

"Stupidity doesn’t need a reason. We are royals, someone is always looking for a reason to slander us. It’s a natural pregnancy too so there will be no lack of unkind and judgmental words."

The empress nodded.

"Has Esong returned___, not just him but the others as well?" she asked.

The empress’s face fell.

Cecily didn’t need to read her mind to know what the look on her face meant.

"Have you heard from him at least?" she asked.

The empress sighed tiredly. The answer to this question was both a yes and a no. It would be so much simpler if Esong himself had reached out.

"What is it?" Cecily asked her.

The empress scratched the back of her ear and sighed again.

Cecily’s eyes widened and she covered her mouth. A small broken trembling sound was made from her throat. She removed her hand from her mouth and in a nervous whisper asked a dreaded question. "Is...is he..."

"No, no." The empress replied. The first no was soft but the second rather strong. She knew that needed to elaborate before Cecily jumped to the wrong conclusions and then scared Scarlet. Natural pregnancies were very delicate according to professor Sham.

She had been consulting with him ever since Esong and Scarlet shared the news of the pregnancy. So, Scarlet didn’t need to know that husband was missing.

"We heard from Folsom recently. He assured us that Esong is fine and he just went off on his own to take on a side mission. According to Folsom, Esong has been sending him regular messages to update him on his whereabouts.

So we know that he is alive and possibly well but we just don’t know where he is. To be frank, we don’t know where any of them is."

It was not good enough because it didn’t provide the desired response however it could keep them hopeful for now.

"Tell Folsom to forward those messages to Scarlet. It’s not good for her to be anxious at this stage of the pregnancy. He really shouldn’t have gone anywhere with her in this condition."

The empress couldn’t share the truth of the facts behind the mission so she smiled wistfully. It was her hope that nothing bad happen to Esong, specially not now when Scarlet was in this condition. The mission was important, but so was Scarlet and his children.

To distract Cecily, she decided to replace the serious conversation with gossip.

"Tell me about Tion and Lora. Does he know that his divorce has been granted? His own father stood in for the annulment."

Cecily’s eyes widened and she snuck away into her room for some juicy updates on what she had missed so far.
